Re: Poll: How Would You Grade The Xbox 'Partner Preview' October Event?

abe_hikura

C. It's largely what I expected from what they said, I gave it a C because it felt light on gamepass or "xbox stuff" this could have easily been one those presentations from smaller publishers.

I do think not having Ark remaster on gamepass is a missed trick by wildcard, the trailer looked nice but not "ignore the fact this isn't free, will be premium priced, and we'll be killing OG servers" nice.

Re: Reaction: Seriously, Microsoft Doesn't Care About Using Call Of Duty To Sell Xboxes

As @JustinSane and @awp69 noted, they simply don't need to lure those CoD gamers with exclusive stuff. That concerning number of people on Playstation who just play CoD will naturally drift to wherever the "best deal" is and a sub that gives them all the CoD games, all year and every year, is just going to make so much sense to them.

Give it a generation, maybe 2 and Xbox will "naturally" be where CoD gamers play.

I reckon some, not many but some, of them might even be sold on cloud streaming via Gamepass (assuming their internet or local infrastructure means it's viable).

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want To See From Xbox & Activision Blizzard?

abe_hikura

Less COD games, I don't mean this in a "COD SUCKS" way, Acti-bliz devoted so much resources to keep the COD machine churning out games they would reward non-COD studios who did well elsewhere by making them make maps for COD.

Oh you managed to make the first Decent Tony Hawks game in 15+ years? make CoD maps.

Brought back Spyro and Crash? make CoD maps.

CoD has Warzone now, it doesn't need all these resources to producing new games every year.

We saw what giving the franchise time to breath did for Assassin's Creed, it's time CoD and it's studios got that.

Re: After Just One Week, Paradox Is Already Admitting Defeat With The Lamplighters League

I'm not sure what they were expecting. They released it not only at a regular busy time but also with giant releases sucking all the oxygen out of the room. — That was foolish

And to make that more damming the game needed more time. They could have delayed it and given it the polish it needed instead of throwing it half drunk and naked against a pack of roided up raptors — that was pants on head stupid.

who else is concerned this game is being roasted by its own publisher a WEEK after release, bad Netflix shows last longer.

Re: Digital Foundry's Lies Of P Review Points Out One Clear Performance Mode Winner On Xbox

@GamingFan4Lyf don't get me wrong you are right, but my (poorly made) point here was more along the lines of dev intent and those Souls games were made to be 30fps, as this was intended to be 60fps (as it's the default setting).

Again choice is generally good, my personal preference is for solid FPS over higher unstable FPS, but I think devs should be allowed to say "We're only offering X graphics/FPS for reason Y" if they want.

Re: Digital Foundry's Lies Of P Review Points Out One Clear Performance Mode Winner On Xbox

abe_hikura

This is the kinda thing that makes me wish this didn't become a standard thing.

This game is clearly meant to be played at 60fps, this entire genre is built on precise timing for both attack and defence, so why have the option of making the gameplay worse?

Don't get me wrong there are plenty of other games where it's very much your "flavour" go fps or go graphics, but here seems like it purely exists because people expect it.

Re: Microsoft Has No Plans To Drop Support For Xbox Series S

abe_hikura

I don't see a decent "out" for the series S. They can't drop support because they'd never be trusted again. Hardware revisions won't solve the issue with the existing series S owners.

The only vaguely workable "fix" is to release a handheld Xbox with series S performance. Plays the same games but certain features aren't workable (such as splitscreen) and the S gets rebranded not as "HD series X" but has a "TV version of the handheld".

It would still suck for series S owners but it would at least look more like restructuring than outright abandoning Series S

Re: Baldur's Gate 3 Confirmed For Xbox In 2023, Series S Version Ditching Local Co-Op

abe_hikura

Whilst not quite the same, this isn't the first time a game has had different MP "rules". Ark tethers coop players UNLESS they are on Series X.

For me I'm more interested in "what gave" and why. Larian was adament they wouldn't ship without coop on any platofrm and MS certain this was a tech problem with a tech solution.

Did the idea of Sony having BG3 make Xbox throw enough cash at Larian to make them give up, or did MS discover splitscreen wasn't going to be possible.

Re: Phil Spencer Gives His Thoughts On Baldur's Gate 3's Xbox Series S Issues

As someone who spent years with other crowded around a screen with friends, I have to admit there is a certain joy in splitscreen toppling Microsofts series S plans.

"Should we give the S more CPU power?"
"Nah, it's just enough"
"What about splitscreen games?"
both guys laugh

And here we are, Halo Infinite/Forza/BG3 either dropping splitscreen or holding release until splitscreen is ready.
