Xbox Cloud Gaming Launches In VR With New Meta Quest App

Test it out now just sideload the APK to your quest done ,been able to do that for years

I wish Bethesda would put their VR games on PC Game Pass.

This is a nice step towards the 3rd party VR support Xbox should be focusing on. Now if they can convince one to make compatibility with the console a thing.

You know, I would love a VR Halo, or a good VR Doom, or just VR anything from Xbox.

I get why they haven't gotten into the industry yet, but when the VR industry starts to be much more stable, I hope Xbox jumps in and shows some meaningful competition against Meta, Sony, Valve whenever they wake up from their coma, and I guess HTC.

It reminds me of those lame early headsets that would only display a large TV screen.
But it's a start.

They have all the money in the world, just give us a nice VR headset. They just have to put the Halo, Doom, Bethesda, Forza (and Call of Duty after the merge) games and they have the best VR line up ever.

Instead we have a pointless cloud version of an already pointless feature.

I would be excited for this. But they took meta off my Samsung VR. Making it a paper weight.

I've used the sideloaded app before, it worked well enough to sell me on this native app.

It is weird MS doesn't add the VR titles they own to PC gamepass.

@HotGoomba it is a very niche and tiny market and Xbox is only recently starting to release the non-VR games on a steady schedule. I believe they might eventually do it in some cases and support other hardware but it will probably be done sparingly.
@themightyant Genuine question, but is it even enjoyable for a game like Skyrim? the visuals in that game are very outdated by now and probably it will be even more jarring in VR.

I'll give it a bash ,but watching films in vr gives me a headache and I cant go 20 min, im sure they could convert some of their titles to native virtual reality, starfield ,dishonored, would be great

@xxk7xx They don't even need to give us a headset just support Wireless VR like what I already do with my PC Partner with an established, wireless headset manufacturer, and boom, your set.

If they went with Meta, for example, they could support both wireless and wired(ew) VR.

@Moonglow Not official, but check out Contractors VR. It has a fantastic, free, Halo and Star Wars Battlefront mod. Probably my most played thing.

@BrilliantBill Playing older games in VR gives them new life. What mode have been an ugly game on a 2D screen, becomes an impressive 3D experience.

Skyrim is absolutely fantastic in VR, and IMO, THE way to play it. Even better is the Morrowind VR mod simply because of how much larger the world is. And naturally, being Bethesda games, they have ungodly mod support so you cna even use graphics replaces.

Plenty of other ugly, 2D games, are great in VR as well. World of WarCraft, Dark Souls, etc.

And going native, there are plenty of hames games, like Inverse, are more fun than their 2D counterparts like Dead by Daylight.

@Moonglow Right now cloud games just don't have the same quality and reliability as locally executed games... And especially in VR you definitely want consistent performances.

@InterceptorAlpha that would be cool as well although to be honest I'd like to see MS launching a dedicated device + porting the games I mentioned in VR.

But I see it was Meta, not Microsoft promoting the service. Anyway I think they should enter the VR space.

sorry of this was asked before, or if I'm just stupid/lazy/etc...
But can I stream games from my XSX instead of the actual game pass (which I don't have atm)
Or tell me how it can be done (ie what do I sideload) ?

May have to check it out. Wonder if it works with the Quest controllers or if you need to tie an Xbox controller in.

@InterceptorAlpha you need to sync a pad, the app really doesn't seem to like the quest controllers, they work but it seems to built around the idea you'll use hand track9ng to interact with the VR bits and gamepad to interact with the xbox bit.

Why don't they bring vr to xbox then

Played an hour of Remnant 1 via the app this morning. Works well, though maxing out the screen size does present resolution issues.

@CutchuSlow This is just a version of the cloud app, you're playing "flat games" on a virtual screen within VR but YES they should bring VR to Xbox, I've said before there is a "low risk" way of doing, letting third party headsets work on Xbox (Steam just released their own "link app" on Quest), and simply "letting" publishers release VR games on the store. If it fails it cost them basically nothing, if it succeeds they can make more money.

@abe_hikura this really. It's an easy win if they work on VR support for Flight Sim, Doom(s), Skyrim, Starfield, Forza thats a massive bonus if all I need is a cable to connect my Quest 3.

@elpardo1984 yeah just set a minimum requirement for the headsets like (inside out tracking t sticks/4 button controllers.) And let publishers/market forces see if it works or not. They can probably get away with no new first party VR content since they aren't selling headsets.

it's weird that the EXISTING PC VR games they own from Bethesda (Skyrim, Fallout, Doom, etc) aren't part of PC gamepass

@abe_hikura if they made just quest 2&3 compatible they’d instantly have the biggest install base in VR.
