What kind of week would it be if we didn't have a few Xbox rumours circulating on social media? The past few days have been particularly full of them though, and it's interesting timing ahead of this week's Developer Direct event.
That said, these rumours aren't typically coming from the usual sources such as Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson and Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb, so there's a bit more skepticism doing the rounds on social media. We still wanted to share them with you though - you can make your own mind up about how likely these are to come true!
The first one is actually being mentioned by a few people, and it's that Halo's supposed battle royale project from developer Certain Affinity has been cancelled. This was first mentioned a while ago, and now it's circulating once again:
The next comes from the Xbox Infinite Podcast, where one of the co-hosts claimed over the weekend that, amongst other things, the rumoured Gears of War Collection is currently being tested internally at The Coalition, and Bethesda's Indiana Jones game has received developer support from 343 Industries, id Software and Tango Softworks.
All of this does just seem to be coming from one person though, unlike the Halo rumour above.
And finally, we also spotted a little something from Windows Central's Jez Corden about a Dead Rising reboot that was teased a while back, with Corden explaining that it's still "super early" and he probably shouldn't have teased it as it could easily get cancelled. Here's what he had to say about that:
Again, we want to reiterate that we're just sharing random Xbox rumours that we've come across on social media so far this week, so don't take any of this as fact! Plans can always change, and people can be misinformed.
Still, if any of these do come to fruition, what are your thoughts about them? Let us know down below!
Sad about a potential Halo BR cancellation? Is this Gears Collection actually real? Come tell us!

The Gears of War Collection is a no-brainer! Announce that sh*t already!
Really want the Dead Rising reboot to happen!
343i helping with Indiana Jones would be good news for me - I love the gunplay in Halo Infinite, and the general fluid feel of movement.
It's one of my biggest frustrations with Dishonored, that it feels a bit clunky when the stealthy approach fails...
Maybe its just me but I really dislike these twitter barrel scraping articles with a bunch of embedded randomer tweets with absolutely no substance
So hoping that the Gears of War Collection is a real thing and that it will be shadow-dropped at the Showcase this week...
Get some gears games out it's the reason I'm on Xbox in the first place and why I've stayed even though gears 6 was a let down campaign wise anyways
I can't decide if I should continue playing all the gears games ( only played 1) or wait for a potential new collection.
Five years since gears 5 and still waiting.
Oh hang on we getting a remaster/ remake collection instead for now.
Don’t get me wrong this new generation including team blue is a total let down mainly.
Cross generation games, remakes/remasters.
Very slow with new big AAA games.
PCs starting to pull way head again in performance.
We could have left this new generation to release fall 2023, at least then they would have been more powerful hardware and developers may have had some software to show the consoles off with.
I miss real generations like in the old days.
@Aidax89 Me to bought dead rising 4 last year and loved it. I love the humour and they are just fun games
@NintendoByNature Play them anyways great first trilogy the legs are a bit shaky since epic gave up but I wouldn't wait as if all this ain't true it's still a couple years off till gears 6
@Kaloudz I love the DR games i liked how they could juggle the camp and the dark and twisted but man 4 was dumb, it felt like a cheap knockoff or a parody game.
I enjoy when yall share stuff like this. It's better than the mundane weekly updates to certain games we seem to get all across the internet.
I heard a rumour that something is going to happen but if it doesn't it's because it was cancelled and not that it was never going to happen in the first place. Cracking get out clause.
@eire-shabba for sure. I have gears of war 2 DL'd and I intend to start it soon.
man i hope they keep the look of gears of war 2 and don’t make it bright and too saturated . it seems every remaster always takes the aesthetic and details away of the classics in exchange for high resolution . it’s my only issue with ultimate edition
I don't doubt that they have heard stuff from valid sources at xbox but the nature of development makes leaking anything more than like a year away risky as plans change.
"and people can be misinformed."
No doubt about that bit! And they can always say "it was cancelled."
@NintendoByNature The Gears of War games look and play great and you're lucky because they were FPS-boosted on Series S and X. I played them before that.
@Kaloudz I liked how 3 balanced the time limits with actually wanting you to play in its play ground.
I've been waiting for this alleged Gears collection to play through the Gears game. I played a bit of 4 on my XBOX One back when it came out and like it a lot, but I ended up trading in my XBOX shortly after getting lol.
Hoping for the trilogy (and maybe Judgement) to be in this collection and Gears 4 to finally get Series enhanced... you know, if this collection exists lol.
@Banjo- awesome stuff. I can't wait to see if something gets announced Thursday. Either way, I'll be getting into gears of war 2 very soon.
@Kaloudz it was less "ticking clock" and more "these events happen on these days" so it was vastly more manageable and didn't feel like it was forcing you to do things "it's way"
Having... suffered... the timer in 1 and 2 I do feel like the me ha ic is part of the franchises DNA and having it set to days was a nice balance of it being there and not ruining your fun.
Maybe a reboot will refocus it back? DR4 focused way to much on the "go kil zombies" as the basis for the game. Back to the mystery solving and the feeling of being swarmed.
