Yesterday's Developer Direct announcement brought the exciting news that Bethesda will finally be lifting the lid on Indiana Jones soon - with a world premiere gameplay trailer confirmed for next week. The game's appearance at Dev Direct has fans wondering about the projected release date, and a new report sheds some light on Bethesda's plans.
According to Insider Gaming, Indiana Jones is on-track for a 2024 launch - which makes sense given all of last year's Developer Direct titles released in 2023. The site claims that "sources close to the game" have confirmed the launch window, but it "remains to be seen" if it can keep to a 2024 date.
Alongside IG's report, another new comment from the ResetEra message boards also hints at a nearby release window. Developer and industry insider 'Shinobi602' responded to a fan — who wondered whether to be shocked by Indy's involvement — with the comment "If you knew when it's coming out, not really". Both of these tidbits of info are unconfirmed for now, but it's all sounding like Indiana Jones is at least aiming for 2024.
What we do know for sure is that January's developer-led event will bring us lots of new info on Indy. MachineGames will showcase "more than 10 minutes of game and developer insights, including details about the game’s setting and story, how fans will actually play as Indy, additional details from his next globe-trotting adventure, and the premiere of the first gameplay trailer."
As for what else will be present at the show, you can expect Xbox to dedicate plenty of time to Ara: History Untold, Hellblade 2 and Avowed alongside Indiana Jones. Bring on next week!
Can you believe we might be playing a new Indiana Jones game this year? Leave your thoughts down below.

As long as the game is a very good AAA example in all areas then I’m really looking forward it.
Action adventure with some exploration are my type of game.
I don’t fancy another Redfall, Forza or even Starfield type where games under achieve in their release condition.
This game needs to be a big tentpole game in a way and feels like spider-man comparisons will be made. Hope there will be extensive gameplay reveals and all the fanfare that goes with it - if not, back in the oven for me.
It being part of the developer direct all but confirmed it being a 2024.
@Daaan14 oh I agree but it is worth remembering this the Wolfenstien reboot studio. Their games have had rough bits.
I'm excited about this game that's for sure can't wait
Tomb Raider survivor trilogy left the bar high in this genre. I guess Indiana Jones has to offer something unique to differentiate itself from that and Uncharted. We will see.
So...in theory. Game Pass in 2024 will have (day one):
Towerborne
Indiana Jones
Hellblade 2
Avowed
ARA: History Untold
Replaced
Silksong
Call of Duty: Gulf War
Stalker 2
and there are plenty of rumors for additional projects maybe releasing in 2024.
Not bad
Heard it might be cel-shaded, or at least not aiming for photorealism? Not bothered myself as gameplay is king; plus I love a cel-shaded game. But interesting if true! Man Xbox has an incredible year lined up. Kinda wish they would stop showing Hellblade. But Avowed and Indiana Jones, i’m so excited for.
I do think they should use these are just games for the current year. Great to see that might be the case.
Aiming for 2024 is good but if necessary, keep that thing in the oven! I expect it to be good tbh, but after many, too early launched games, I hope they will address those “mistakes” in 2024 and going forward. Wolfenstein Youngblood wasn’t really on the level of New Order and previous others.
But it’s a new year so hopefully they can surprise us in a good way! Actually looking forward to that Dev Direct next week!
thats a big wow if i get stalker 2, avowed, ark 2, and indi jones on gp this year. plus paid star wars outlaws and starfield dlc. plus there is a couple others i may like on gp.
but
we are in 2024 and no release date for any of them.....
@rustyduck Forza Motorsport didn’t even have a date by the end of the Developer_Direct last year; and still hit October. So I wouldn’t worry so much necessarily; but I wonder if they will all stack in the 2nd half of the year.
I think these days Xbox want to be extra sure before giving a date due to all the delays in the past (Starfield, Redfall, Halo Infinite).
Wow, this is actually unexpected if true. I thought for sure this game was a couple years off.
Great for those interested in the game as long as they don't prioritise Xmas sales over a polished product. I'm sure most people would prefer an early 2025 release if it means a better day 1 experience.
@Godot25 Microsoft flight sim 24 and Persona 3 reload as well.
@Godot25 There was an article on 7th Jan which included others coming to ganepass as well:
Open roads
Eiyuden chronicles: hundred heroes
Dead static drive
Flintlock: siege of dawn
Nirvana noir
Still wakes the deep
Plus a game that rarely gets a mention anymore even on pure - dungeons of hinterberg. 2024 is looking stacked to say the least
I just assumed all 4 games aim to be released this year. This is a deeper dive into them after all, I doubt you would do that for games over a year away.
Sort of expecting Avowed to be the first mega-release but Indie to be second while Hellblade may be a fall release… but maybe sooner, given the direct.
Definitely not coming out this year. If it does, it will be a crappy game. I've now come to expect games from Microsoft that are just ok, none of them are stellar. I subscribe to Game Pass and play a ton of mediocre games. I have my PS5 so I can play 1-3 great games per year. They each have their purpose.
We yet to see any gameplay for this game, but it already needs to be AAA on all aspects, offer something unique to differentiate itself from Tomb Raider, Uncharted and be a tent pole game...... I can absolutely see the game being judged objectively and by its own merits.
@Romans12 Xbox really needs to get their AAA games up to the standard of their smaller titles like Hifi rush, grounded and pentiment (maybe not your type of game but are definitely complete, polished games)
Time will tell I suppose as none of us are clairvoyant!
This really needs to be big for Xbox. The franchise is still huge and attention grabbing to this day and I'd love to have an Uncharted rival set in the IJ universe.
I just really hope the game is in 3rd person and not 1st.
@Ken_Kaniff I believe I read that it was going to be 3rd person but I could be mistaken. I hope it is as well. Really looking forward to this one.
Don't forget about the music score too. I reckon as soon as that iconic 'der de de der...der de der..' starts blasting over the speaker system, 90% of us will get goosebumps and be like, 'yup sold! gimme gimme gimme' 😋 😀.
@Kaloudz
Machine Games has only done FPS for Wolfenstein reboot. Also the whole group of Bethesda studios has mostly deliver First Person games. So it is probably a pretty good bet they will again go first person. But they could be trailblazing new ground which could send them in some other direction.
MS/Xbox has some many games in the works, a bunch will always get lost in the shuffle. Stuff is bound start falling through the ceiling tiles. Starfield anticipation & release provided a thick smoke screen. The bulk of these games are being worked on in parallel.
Can't wait to see Indy. Anyone who has played to recent MG Wolfenstein games has an idea of the quality (performance AND gameplay) to expect. MG is very familiar with everyone's favorite feature after Starfield — performance capture. 😄
@Ken_Kaniff Uncharted and the newer Tomb Raider games have laid out the path this game should take gameplay wise. Just need to get thd Indy flavor and a decent voice actor to ape a young Harrison Ford.
I'm looking forward to seeing what this'll be like.
Personally I think they should pull a MGS2 and have Indy die after the first mission, and have you play as Shia LaBeouf instead.
@Godot25 I still have my doubts about call of duty going gamepass day 1. I sense Activision are really in Phil Spencer's ear on that very subject right now.
I wouldn't be surprised if the said 6 months later, or something. And I'll be rioting frontline with everybody else if they do.
@NeutronBomb Well. Game Pass is everything for Microsoft and it's growth is bedrock of future of Xbox business. And what is the better way to grow a Game Pass then with most popular yearly shooter?
To me, only thing that could prevent COD 2024 being day one in Game Pass is when SOny still have marketing deal which would prevent this possibility.
But I can also imagine Microsoft trying to put ABK games into Game Pass Ultimate exclusively.
I still need to see the 5th film, but I'm excited for this Indy game as there hasn't been an Indy game for ages - last 1 I played was the one Gold gave away
@NeutronBomb I have my doubts as well. The price for ABK was $70 billion largely due to their business model. Launching CoD into Game Pass is disruptive of that profit stream. I suppose it is almost daring people to join Game Pass, much as the other 1st party Day One releases do.
Right now, it is unclear if Xbox is explicitly prevented for doing this by Sony's ad contract or the gaze of regulators could encourage them to hold off. MS might be just fine with that scenario, for the time being. When if & it does hit GP, MS could do the $35 DLC pass and early access approach, where only full price pre-orders get early access outside of GP.
