I'm very excited about this, can't wait to play it but the whole "decide the fate" thing feels... off.
Because barring any amazing plot twists, that fate will only last until my next jump through the unity. Spent the last week sorta rebuilding my first playthrough ATM.
Note: I like the whole NG+ is part of the narrative thing, do wish they'd add more universes and some kind of randomiser (even if it's just gear) but, as I suspect the point is, my connection to the world of Starfield is lessened with each jump.
It seems like Microsoft used to leave Xbox alone to do whatever (what's the occasional 7 billion to MS) but when they bought Activision (plus all that fighting in the courts) changed that. You don't get to spend 69+ billion of your "business dad's" cash and not have him looking over your shoulder.
All the stuff that's been going on since is much more in Microsoft's usual business practices and not the direction Xbox has been going in over the last decade.
Said it b3fore an Xbox handheld has to be able to play Xbox games natively.
The market doesn't need yet another PC handheld let alone one that's sole USP is that it has an Xbox logo. There will be better and cheaper handheld PCs, playo g your existing g Xbox library is the one thing they can do that other companies can't.
I refuse to get any hopes up. I've been burned a lot in recent months of this sort of teasing and it's not been "the thing that you want" and something else.
So I'm setting my expectations to "documentary about the series"
@GeeForce Maybe but I see a couple of potential issues
1: Sony can then ensure the PS6 is better than the Xbox Next. Just make every spec that little higher and the only counters are let them (in which case why rush out the Next?) or do an early mid-gen upgrade (leaving both to leapfrog each other). 2: With the PS5 being so dominant this gen, third parties (and Xbox apparently) won't launch games that are "next-gen only" and ensure the PS5 gets the same games as Xbox Next) so customers won't need an Xbox to play them.
IF Xbox wanted an upgrade I think something like an external addon* would make more sense instead of a whole new console. It'd be comparatively cheaper and would work on the Series S too.
*like those external GPUs and that booster Nintendo trademarked that was clearly for some sort of "pro-dock"
There is just no way I could swing that for an optional upgrade.
And I'm saying that as someone who bought an X1X and a N3DS in previous generations.
It's also a double no for me because this is dropping "near" the Switch 2. If I'm gonna be spending money it's going to on the thing with new experiences and not a crotch kick for prettier graphics.
With how late these are coming after PS/PC and how there are less Xbox users I can't imagine sales will be high but GP is at least some guaranteed money.
Indeed not every release has to be AAA nor dose it have to be "all new" I'll happy pay for stuff like ODST or the "sequel-expansions" things they did to AC2 l.
I'd also take stuff like an "offical standalone" version of things like Fallout London.
If I was MS, I'd be trying to secure as many of Activision's licensed games as possible. Getting Disney to sign off on marvel Ultimate Alliances and Simpsons Hit and Run would be massive.
Pertically if (for now at least) the only place to get the delisted games was Xbox/Gamepass.
Don't get me wrong, YAY and I'll certainly pick one up on Xbox...
But this is Capcom. They'll point to these 2 games not selling as well on Xbox (despite arriving much later) as to why X game doesn't come to Xbox down the line.
I'm guessing just how supported it'll be depends on how well the DLC do.
I enjoyed it, I don't see the primary flaw I had being addressed (actually flying to planets) I'll be playing it again this month to get a NG+ ready for the DLC and starting a modded save once that's done.
I completely get why some don't like it but I love it (probably for exact the same reasons lol)
@Jenkinss @Dan1283 Problem is the companies know most of their LS games are going to die, it's that gambler mentality as they just need one to stick and start earning that Fortnite money.
Everytime something like Helldivers doesn't shrivel up in a few months after launch they think theirs still a chance for a mega-hit that'll print money for the next 15 years.
Considering the other rumour about MS looking to bring Activision Marvel games back for BC/Gamepass it would make sense they try and get Acti's Transformers games too.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are more "MS trying to get [insert Activision licenced game]" rumours pop up.
EDIT: Forgot Activision published Simpson Hit and Run, so that needs to happen.
@Neither_scene agreed. I wanted a new monitor as I couldn't keep stealing my PC one, and took a pint on a 1440 VRR one and it's been fantastic. More and more games have actually settings for 1440 (high five to the one good thing from Fallout 4's next gen update) but most games end up gutting the graphics instead of resolution. Leaving us with uglier games in crystal clear 4k lol
See I think this is the reason why no one's been able to produce a direct CoD rival. It doesn't matter how many good the game is or if you manage to deliver what CoD players want, no matter how ma y users you pry away from CoD, a new CoD is round the corner and they'll leave your game to play that one.
@IssaBrvndo works about as well as what I currently doing, finding the largest ramp module and just cramming the car into it every time I want to leave a planet lol
ATM I want someone to make a mod that adds a module that has the REV docked to the ship (maybe hanging like the Pelicans in Halo) and then it be gone when the ship lands.
It slightly bothers me that my tiny ship has this whole car just tucked away somewhere
I want to know what this actually means. Like yes more Final Fantasy and SE games for Xbox (woo) but what dose it mean in practice? Will we get stuff we missed like the 7 remakes and 16 or just that going forward we won't get skipped?
Yeah I don't believe Microsoft is all too bothered. "But games skipping Xbox is bad for consoles" true but so is dropping exclusives. I refuse to believe "classic capcom games skip Xbox" dose more damage than "Xbox first party games coming to PS5"
@Decoy_Snake I suspect its "the MT issues prevents an Xbox version" and more "it cost more to port these games to Xbox than they earn because of the MT issue"
I do like the options 'seems' to be just reducing the frame rate to hit 60fps. (I have a 1440p monitor)
I dislike that most performance modes are turning off most of the graphical effects. I bought a series X I want the games to look better than on my One X. Note: I'm not saying graphics are more important, I would just like the option of reduces res not graphics to get the those extra frames.
This is a great move for Microsoft, terrible move for Xbox. Confirming a PS5 release before the game is even out creates the expectation that if you don't have an Xbox and if there's an Xbox game you want to play... just wait.
And gamers are happy to wait for sales and possible GP/PSN+ releases, so waiting so they don't have to drop cash on a different consoles is going to be easy.
As I noted the other day. I fully support a platform agnostic future, but being the only company offering up its first party games ISNT that.
Don't get me wrong, YES! but It would also be nice for the definitive trilogy to get a next-gen update (and for Mafia 2 to get some actual work done to it)

Re: These 30+ Games Are Coming To Xbox Next Week (September 16-20)
I'd be grabbing Dead Rising but due to cash reasons I'll be buying Shadows of Doubt instead.
Will pick DR up later
Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Fondest Memories Of The Original Xbox?
I remember playing Halo coop at a friend's house and being on the edge, then we played RAW and that got it on the old Christmas list.
It sat next to our gamecube for multiplayer.

(Ideally it'd be a dual boot device)
Re: Ubisoft Hints At Potential 60FPS Xbox Update Coming To Assassin's Creed Syndicate
It would be a nice excuse to play it again.
Re: Tony Hawk Confirms He's Working With Activision On 'Exciting' 25th Anniversary Plans
@Vordus or a "remastered and extended" version of the documentary with a paid dynamic background.

Re: After Shutting Down The Crew, Ubisoft Will Add Offline Modes To Newer Entries
Depends what the "offline mode" actually is. Riders Republic offline "zen mode" doesn't have progression and what not.
Re: Poll: How Much Would You Pay For An Xbox Series X Pro?
£500 would be my max.
Any higher is just PC land. If I'm going to be dropping more than £500 on AN UPGRADE then might as well upgrade my PC.
Re: Reaction: PS5 Pro's Extortionate Price Justifies Xbox's Lack Of A New Console
@Pabpictu Agreed. If Valve is ever going to try the whole "steam machine" thing again, that would be the time.

Re: Sony's PS5 Pro Seems Unlikely To Get An Xbox Equivalent This Holiday
Sony exec 1: Sales aren't going as well. Either between the earlier Xbox successes or the general cost of living we're just not seeing any growth.
Sony exec 2: hey remember when we launched the PS3 for an insane price
Sony exec 1: YES! Let's release an optional upgrade price that is far higher than anything else, and that'll give us the growth we're missing.
Sony exec 2: How about we charge extra for a disc drive and a stand?
Son Exec 1: Marry me
Re: 10 Exciting Xbox Indie Games To Look Out For In September 2024
Shadows of Doubt has been on my radar for some time, excited for it to finally hit Xbox.
Re: Rumour: 'Whole Slate' Of Modern Final Fantasy Games Expected To Release On Xbox

Re: Undead Labs Is Shifting Its Full 'Focus And Resources' To State Of Decay 3
I like that they are giving 2 one final pass (they've done a lot to it over the years) and unlocking the gated content.
I'll be very suprised is 3 hits before 2026.
Re: Starfield's 60FPS Mode Put Through Its Paces On Xbox Series S
I want to be able to set Starfield to 1080/1440 on Series X and use those gains to have better frames in visual/better visual in performance.
It's weird that Fallout 4 NG has a 1440/40fps mode and Starfield doesn't.
Re: September's First Xbox Game Pass Addition Is Available Today (Sept. 3)
I am... objectively bad at this game, having fun though.

Re: September's First Xbox Game Pass Addition Is Available Today (Sept. 3)
Looking forward to this but the second I saw the shutters close via a handle the player interacted with my brain went "this needs to be VR!"
I'm hoping this will be my next "audiobook" game

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 31 - September 1)
Atlas Fallen.
Playing BG3 in co-op with the wife.
Getting a save ready for Starfield DLC.
Medieval Dynasty VR on Quest.
And HOPEFULLY some TTRPG goodness with Mutant Epoch.

With a 1440 monitor I am more than happy to take a resolution hit, than a graphical hit to get 60fps
Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of Atlas Fallen On Xbox Game Pass So Far?
I'm enjoying it, gives me weird 360 vibes (think is the chunky armour).
Re: Here's Your First Extended Look At Day One Game Pass Title 'Sniper Elite: Resistance'
More Sniper Elite is good. I enjoy it in single-player and in "oh no, everything went wrong " co-op. So "more SE5" is fine by me.
Just finished the two VR games (waiting on ZA-VR) so I'll be needing that SE fix about then lol

It would be real nice if next-gen we didn't need these options.

New Coffee Talk spin-off, I'm happy.
Re: Xbox Is Hosting A Special 'Super Saver Sale' For Game Pass Members This Week
I wonder if Suicide Squad Deluxe is actually the game. It's been in the sales a few times and its just the upgrade, not the game.
Not that I would pay to play a game that's certainly getting its plug pulled when its finishes the year.
Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Combat Detailed In Big Gameplay Breakdown
Looks good.
Still not happy about the party count going to 3. I'm sure its going to have an effect on who I pick and how I build the characters.

A co-op survival game based on an interdimensional choo-choo train? I'm so in.
Re: Indiana Jones And The Great Circle Is Playable Three Days Early With Xbox Game Pass Upgrade
Pass.
I only got the Starfield one because I knew the web would be filled with spoilers before launch.
I am less concerned about that with Indy, It's indy the formula for it's storytelling is pretty established.
Re: Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Comments On Indiana Jones PS5, And Microsoft's Plan Moving Forward
