We've been talking about Banjo-Kazooie for years and years here at Pure Xbox without any real sign of a reboot for the series, but a rumour appears to suggest that Microsoft might have some plans for the franchise after all.
This comes from NateDrake on ResetEra, otherwise known as NateTheHate on YouTube, who has taken to the platform to suggest that Xbox is "actively" working on a Banjo project which was supposedly greenlit early last year.
"Remains an active project but the project was only greenlit early last year. Much has to be done & development can change a ton (ideas abandoned, internal reboots, etc...)"
We actually first heard about this all the way back in 2022, when it was suggested that something related to Banjo was happening inside of Xbox, but nothing showed up at the Xbox Showcase that year and the rumour went quiet.
That said, Xbox boss Phil Spencer did actually mention Banjo in a recent interview, pointing out that he was aware of the demand for a new game - so clearly it's something that's top of mind for the Microsoft Gaming CEO. Obviously plans can change and we don't know if this rumour is 100% legit, but we're certainly hoping it is!

I hope so. But I also wish there weren't leaks for everything. It would be nice to have surprises sometimes.
I don't know. On the one hand it'd be cool but on the other why the secrecy? We got confirmation of Fable and Perfect Dark long before the games had any major work done but banjo it's been a dev for a year and nothing?
@themightyant not in 2024, brother. Makes me miss the late 90s/early 2000s when you had to search the doldrums of the internet or know people to get leaks. Now, like vampires, they're everywhere ...

This is the barest of rumors which you could say about any game that may come out… maybe I’m grumpy but really don’t want to know …
I just want something official but at least all these conversations have reached Phil Spencer! Rumours aren't that bad, after all. The first two games should be remade, in between.
Fingers crossed these rumors are true. I would love a new Banjo game. Way overdue!
I wonder if it would be developed with a Switch version in mind since it would probably sell pretty well over there if it is a quality game
@abe_hikura Because people, myself included, get annoyed when games ade announced years in advance with nothing heard from them for ages. Announce a game one or two years out. No more than that.
Fable for example is working on having been announced 4 years ago. Almost half a decade. And what have we gotten from it? Nothing except plenty of new articles about a troubled development.
Meanwhile you have something like Hi-Fi. Absolutely not a peep. Then drops same day it was announced to enormous fanfare.

@Bucky I personally am not interested in a remake but i hope if it is true they release it on the switch as it would probably sell really well.
@Banjo- please MS give my good friend some Banjo love. Remakes, new game whatever it’s just been to long for such a great franchise. It’s sad to think how long this has been dormant. Hope you get a game in this series that makes you smile, laugh and just love what gaming has to offer. Keep the faith buddy 😊
