Re: Former Xbox Exec Defends Phil Spencer's Recent Decisions As Head Of Xbox

abe_hikura

I fully support the idea of a platform-agnostic environment but that ONLY works if everyone is doing it, if they aren't... well It's going to go for as well for Xbox as "buying third-party exclusives" during the start of the X1 era. Just made it possible for Sony to buy all the exclusives and extra content for less.

The "Console Wars" nonsense was exactly but this just feels like folding. We need competition between the platforms to make them better.

Re: Skyrim's Massive 'Skyblivion' Mod Looks Incredible, But It's Apparently Too Big For Xbox

abe_hikura

It does seem weird to me, in light of the whole "creation club" thing there does seem to be a "path" to these getting standalone, official console releases and Xbox is just sitting on it's thumbs. Granted with Fallout London there's going to be some concern about people seeing it as a "proper Fallout game" and expect it to be canon but this is different. It's a remake of an existing game and whatever it'll cost MS to get it done is going to be significantly less than doing it themselves and keeps the Bethesda team working on their games.

And it would keep the IPs going whilst Bethesda takes it's time with ES6.

Re: Rumour: Xbox To Announce 'Big' Game For PS5 Next Week

abe_hikura

Microsoft really needs to confirm some sort of ground rules for their multiformat plans. I know people who traditionally are multi console folk but now are so sure that "most xbox games will come to PS eventually" they aren't buying an Xbox this gen.

These are people who would 100% sign up to gamepass to restart their Xbox library and simply forget to unsub.

I'm starting to get that feeling from last gen where it seems Xbox has just given up trying this gen, faffing around in the short term in the hopes or making more money in the long term. Which hey makes sense... except we're in that previous "long term" now and we're been having patience for nearly a decade

Re: SEGA Reveals Two Point Museum, 'Coming Soon' To Xbox Series X|S

abe_hikura

(Pretty sure its not) Ironically, This is the first two point game I 'm not instantly sold on and kinda need it to be on GP (or, you know, a demo) to see if I like it.

Good timing though, it's been long enough since galaticare (enjoyed that more than I was expecting to) that I'm about ready for another management sim.

Re: Microsoft's Mobile Gaming Store Is Being Tested Internally At Xbox

abe_hikura

I'm still not entirely sure how this is supposed to be a thing or how its supposed to play out.

Why should Joe public use MS' alt appstore over the ones that actually come with their devices? Cloud games? Native game ports seems chatoic considering the range of abdroid devices and indervidual quirks of OS builds.
People didn't want a MS appstore when they was using windows phone, why would they want this now?

I'm guessing the long term plan is to pull the content from the other appstores and expect the folks playing candy crush to migrate to it.

Re: Talking Point: How Would You Feel If Xbox's Major Fall Release Is Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6?

abe_hikura

I'd feel bad. The only reason I'm paying any attention to CoD this year is because its coming to GP. The single player/co-op content rarely justifies the RRP for me.

The X1 generation was filled with these droughts and whilst gamepass has helped address that there is this constant feeling that other platforms are getting constant games whilst we wait for a smattering of releases shouldn't be lingering now 4 years into this generation (and now that Xbox has 30 studios). It's reminding me more and more of the Dreamcast and Wii U.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 3-4)

abe_hikura

Hopefully.. hopefully... I'm nearing the end of Sandrock.
-Trying WWE for the weekend to see if it's worth the upgrade (eh).
-Playing Medieval Dynasty VR (whilst I wait for my buddy to be free to start the Xbox version in COOP)
-Playing more Fallout: London as my PC weeps (it REALLY doesn't like it)

Re: Bungie Is 'Deepening Integration' With Sony As Layoffs Hit Ex-Halo Developer

abe_hikura

I seem to recall it being reported that there was some sort of conflict between Sony and Bungie about being further integration and the (then) next Destiny expansion was going to decide Bungie's fate.

If that was true then I guess the expansion did offer the demanded results by the Sony execs, which is to be expected I'm sure it wasn't a reasonable target anyway.

Re: Xbox Console Sales Struggling As Hardware Revenue Nosedives At Microsoft

abe_hikura

It's almost like ...
-trashing your platform and games (to win court cases)
-releasing exclusives on rival platforms.
-struggling to release games both in terms of frequency and quality

Are not conductive to selling hardware.

Games sell consoles. Not specs, not owning a bunch of studios or entire publishers, and not "you don't need a xbox, to play xbox" subscription service. Games!

I am not hopeful about the future of Xbox as a platform. You just don't get to have two washout generations in a row and expect excitement for another.

Re: Microsoft Provides More Detail On Its New Xbox Game Pass Standard Tier

abe_hikura

I do like that now all teirs of gamepass include online. Non ultimate members don't need to have two subs.

I still think removing "day 1" is silly, one if the major criticisms of PSN is its confusing teirs.

Making "standard" a streaming only version makes more sense to me, particularly with the while "you don't need an Xbox to play Xbox" thing they have going on.
