We can never go too long without a new Like a Dragon game, and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio hasn't let us down with this latest one, with Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii set to hit Xbox on February 28, 2025.
Unlike Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is described as an action-adventure title that isn't revolved around turn-based gameplay, and it features the recurring character Goro Majima as its sole protagonist.
You can also expect the usual array of wacky mini-games - it's all looking extremely fun so far!
If you're interested, pre-orders are available as of today on the Xbox Store beginning at £54.99 / $59.99, and we'll throw more details about what you can expect from the game down below (along with a few screenshots).
- Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii (Xbox Store) - £54.99 / $59.99
- Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii - Deluxe Edition (Xbox Store) - £64.99 / $74.99
"Goro Majima, a notorious ex-yakuza suddenly finds himself shipwrecked on a remote island in the Pacific. Before long, they’re caught up in a conflict between cutthroat criminals, modern-day pirates, and other scoundrels over a legendary treasure.
Embark on an over-the-top, modern-day pirate adventure with an ex-yakuza, now pirate captain and his crew as they engage in exhilarating combat on land and sea in the hunt for lost memories and a legendary treasure."

Pretty sure is launching on Xbox One too.
Man, I love RGG Studios. I didn't even know I wanted this. 🥳🦜
How do they manage to turn out games so quickly? Makes Bethesda look like a joke
Sounds whacky and fun!
What joy! I didnt know this was coming and I love Like a Dragon and love Pirates, so this couldn't be a better match for me
Looks daft as hell, and I'm here for that!
@Lup Yep, it's Xbox One too. That's been adjusted now.
I've only ever played the first Like A Dragon, @FraserG, so I have no idea who the protagonist is. Do I need to play any other games, or can I jump into this one and have everything explained to me? I appreciate you may not know much more than this trailer, but thought I'd ask anyway.
Also, I am utterly useless at trying to read subtitles and play the game, particularly when the action heats up. So, do you happen to know whether it will come with an English dub?
Thanks as always...
@Fiendish-Beaver I'm unfortunately not the best person to answer that, but I'm sure someone else will help!
I believe they mentioned during the RGG Summit today that Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will get an English dub at launch.
@Fiendish-Beaver do yourself a favor and play all the other games first! I guarantee you won't regret it!
Majima is almost like "kaizoku ou ni ore wa naru!"
Thank you, @FraserG. Appreciated... 👍
They are on my utterly enormous list, @deadmaker. It's just a matter of having enough time, and this game does look good fun...
@Fiendish-Beaver
I'm pretty sure you can enjoy it anyways, but Majima has appeared in pretty much every entry in the series so you'll probably appreciate even more if you played those (which are a lot, I know).
Majima also appeared in the first Like a Dragon game, so you should know him at least a little bit.
Consider my money spent.
You could have given me a hundred guesses and "majima pirate adventure" wouldnt have come up. And I am delighted by that.
Kinda weird it's not a gaiden but I guess that means more than just "side story" to them (guess those are short and this is not.)
From what I've read, you can sail your own ship and do ship combat? Okay, somehow I am even more excited for this than I was for Infinite Wealth, which is an awesome game!
@deadmaker ironically I only learned the word 海賊 for pirate playing Dragon Quest Builders 2 in Japanese this week, didn't know it would come in handy already 😂
What timing, I just beat Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth last night. I jumped into the series with Like a Dragon and also played The Man Who Erased His Name, so I don't have the huge background with the series like the people who played all the beat em ups. But they did just enough in the 3 games I've played introducing Majima (and Saejima, and Daigo Dojima for that matter) to make me hyped for this.
Prefer turned base personally
Remember back in the day when Square would crank out RPGs yearly, sometimes multiple a year?
This reminds me of that, and I love it.
Now I need to get off my rear and get caught up on this series!!!
@Fiendish-Beaver yakuza 0 and Kiwami (which is Yakuza 1) will explain who Majima is. 0 is his “backstory” (came out after his character was popular) and kiwami is his first appearance. He is in the other games but if you need a Majima 101 those two are it.
This is exciting. I've played through Yakuza: Like A Dragon twice, Like a Dragon Gaiden, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth each once. I'm now finally playing Yakuza Kiwami for the first time. These guys know how to make a game!
Thank you, @Ryu_Niiyama...
You know, @Lup, I had a feeling he might have been in the first Like A Dragon game. I'm in my 60s now, and my memory isn't what it was... 😂
@Fiendish-Beaver
Fair enough! There's a lot of characters in these games and it's sometimes hard to remember all of them.
That being said, I think if you play Yakuza Kiwami (remake of the first game) you'll remember this guy forever.
There's a mechanic in the game called "Majima Everywhere" where the guy appears all the F time to fight you, sometimes with different styles and disguises.
W. T. F. 😆 Yakuza never fails to surprise me.
OMG, at first I was disappointed about Hawaii again, I play LaD/Yakuza to enjoy Japan, not the US, but Majima gets is own whole game, lol? Sign me up! Instantly better than Y6.
@Fiendish-Beaver Play all the games. Play all the games. Do it. Just do it. (Isn't Majima a cameo in LaD though?)
He's kind of the antagonist/protagonist/mostly bats**t nuts in a lovable way part of the main side cast in Kiryu's Y0-6 saga. A sort of frienemy turned friend? He's also the other main playable protag for half of Yakuza 0, so he's been playable before.
But a whole game with his crazy self as a pirate? Yes. This will be awesome.
Dunno about the English dub though. His Japanese VA Ugaki has such a style of his own that the character seems mostly built around that it's hard for me to imagine him without that voice. Kind of the same for Kiryu and Kuroda though. I don't understand half of what he says, but his smooth baritone is Kiryu.
Day 1 Purchase.
Love how RGG studios releases games quickly compared to other studios.
@NEStalgia Majima-Chan is watching.
@mousieone never before have I been so tempted to pay the full $70 for a launch game...
I’ll wait and see if it comes to game pass. I’m really mostly just into the turn-based ones. This does look cool tho.
I'd have called this game... Yarrrrkuza.
February is looking phenomenal: this, KCD2, avowed...nice
February is always a cracker for game releases!
@NEStalgia you will make Majima cry
