Re: Every Xbox Game We Played At Summer Game Fest 2024

InterceptorAlpha

@RIghteousNixon If we're being Distinct 9 in to it, a good portion of those props were redesigns of the ones they made for Halo 3's Believe ad campaign and the Halo movie they were working on before it was canned.

You can even go so far as to see some of them reourposed further for James Cameron's Avatar.

Re: Elden Ring's DLC Takes #1 Spot In Highest-Rated Xbox Games Of 2024

InterceptorAlpha

@OldGamer999 I still remember being absolutely floored by the level of environmental destruction that game had. And the day I bead that final boss was one of my happiest when it comes to gaming.

Also had me learn an unnecessary amount about Minamoto Raikou. Got in trouble at school once looking up information on a computer about him. 😂

Re: Xbox Is Getting An Officially Licensed Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree Controller

InterceptorAlpha

Dang. Was excited for a minute then saw it was wired. Between kids, animals, and being a decent distance from the TV, wired controllers just don't cut it any more.

Been holding out on plunking down on a new controller until the official refresh that is supposed to have a gyro. How is it 2024 and literally everything, including my TV, has a gyro but not the Xbox controller?

Though that Turtle Beach Stealth is kinda appealing since it is wireless.

Re: Capcom's Old Game Engine Seemingly To Blame For Certain Releases Skipping Xbox

InterceptorAlpha

@ValentineMeikin In house engine or not doesn't matter. If you say, told iD to make an Elder Doom game on 343's Splitstream engine, they'd still have to completely learn it. And the entire time learning it, figuring out how to optimize, etc, is time and money taken away from development time.

Just because one team uses an engine doesn't mean every team uses the same one, or even knows how to.

Re: Capcom's Old Game Engine Seemingly To Blame For Certain Releases Skipping Xbox

InterceptorAlpha

@GamingFan4Lyf Same reason games still release on UE3 and UE4. Cost of development.

You can bet that any game that was developed on MT during this time was deemed to not be something that would sell well on Xbox. So they used an established engine people were already familiar and/or developing on to save costs since poor sells and the dev time for an Xbox version would actually reduce profits.

Re: Reaction: Xbox & Nintendo Continue To Deliver With Major Summer Showcases

InterceptorAlpha

@Ralizah @anoyonmus I can't agree. I have every platform I clouding two Series X and a gaming PC and laptop. And I've been "PC" gaming since the Commodore 64.

My PC is used for a specific set of games. Primarily VR and mouse only games.

I prefer shooters on controllers for example. And if I want to do that on PC I have to play against mouse and keyboard users. So I either have to use my steam controller, which is great for games like Foxhole, but not really shooters IMO, or wait for an Xbox controller with a gyro.

My Xbox are used for anything multi-player, shooters, and some other things, as that's where all my friends are. Meanwhile my Ninty and Sony platforms are for single player games only. Barring outliers that also happen to have multi-player like sya Mario Kart or Animal Crossing.

You also have the bit where console games generally launch in better state than the PC version. Especially if the PC version is a d***waving contest between AMD and NVIDIA essentially segregating performance for games between GPU mabufacturers.

Re: Xbox Set To Miss Out On Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection

InterceptorAlpha

@GeorgeKal It isn't easy at all. Between having to move over to using a split memory pool with various speeds across multiple SKUs, to a completely different type of APU, it takes quite a bit of work.

Enough work they decided that paying everyone the hours, as well as publishing, distributing, and after Xbox takes their cut, the amount they'd make back is either less or too close to what was spent, to make a profit.

Xbox's install base is less than half of Sony, greater if you include last gen, as games are still being released there. And Nintendo outsells both Xbox and Playstation combined.

Then you have to factor the genre attach rate of Xbox. Where if it isn't a shooter, the attach rate is pretty abysmal. So of the already smaller audience on Xbox, you've an even smaller one still that's interested in these types of games.

Then you have the audience like me that owns every platform. And I'm not waiting for an Xbox release to buy something if it is elsewhere already.

Re: Xbox's Chief Marketing Officer Is Leaving Microsoft To Join Roblox

InterceptorAlpha

@Krzzystuff I can't really agree. It definitely fell off with the Xbox One. Prior to that they knew how to ad campaign.

The OG Xbox'S marketing was fantastic. Everything from the in-your-face ads, typical of the time, and the iconic green x tearing open.

And they turned it up higher for the 360. In my opinion you'll never see a better ad campaign for anything than what was done with Halo 3's Believe campaign. I between Blomkamp's amazing live action work(still mad his Halo movie was canceled) and the diaoramas with the vet actors. So good. And while that stands out, they were repeatedly on top of their game. Even going so far as to do a TV show for Viva Pinata and collectible cards.

It was only really in the Xbox One era, but in particularly after Nadella took over Microsoft, that it pretty much died out. Though he has repeated shown he is not a fan of hardware and would prefer Microsoft be software only.

Re: New Starfield Mods Allow Xbox Series S Version To Reach 120FPS

InterceptorAlpha

Would be great to try. But it disables achievements.

If they're going to be charging for mods, they they need to be curating them properly. There is no reason mods that aren't cheats should disable achievements.

@Kooky_Geezer Weird. I if a game does 60fps I pretty much never have an issue on my Series X. No issues arise when I an playing at 120fps though.

Re: Palworld Update Preview Brings Dedicated Servers To Xbox Players

InterceptorAlpha

@oopsiezz How do you expect a small indie dev to provide dedicated servers?

The only reason this is even happening to begin with is because Microsoft offered to step in.

@Jenkinss Nah there are no limits on third party dedicated servers, players can run so long as the game supports it. Pretty much everything from Space Engineers to Arma Reforger and Ark supports them.

Now first party, dedicated servers, the player can run? Yes. Pretty much unheard of.

Re: Xbox Announces Three New Series X|S Consoles Launching In 2024

InterceptorAlpha

@themightyant Realistically, it could never be a different design.

Microsoft spend a metric ton in developing the mother/daughter board set up with the giant heat sink in the middle.

Anything else would have required whole new R&D. The X is a much more though out layout than just a MOBO with soem fans and heatsinks slapped on.

And the inside of the Series X is wall to wall. You don't have like an inch of buffer like you have had on pretty much every other console.

The thing also isn't rigig because of a solid frame. It is rigid because it is well to wall hardware. The guts just kinda slip in and out like a well fit glove.

@GuyinPA75 Agreed. I'd have been happy with just confirmation of the new controller revision. Because that by extension would have essentially been confirmation a revised elite was coming as well.

Re: Xbox: 'You Are Going To See More Of Our Games On More Platforms'

InterceptorAlpha

And that's exactly why there's no need to buy Xbox anymore.

Might as well buy the better hardware with more features instead of the Xbox which is still missing controller features introduced as far back as 2006 on the Wii, that is somehow standard for everyone in the industry, except Xbox.

As someone with two day one Series Xs, and been here since 2001, I legitimately don't ever forsee buying another Xbox. And as a huge fan, even have 20th anniversaey hoody, that is sad to say.
