Larry Hryb, AKA 'Major Nelson', was the face of Xbox for years before announcing his departure from Microsoft last summer - and now the Xbox legend has revealed his next move in gaming.
He's heading over to the Community team at Unity, which develops one of the industry's leading game engines amongst other bits and pieces in the world of gaming. It sounds like Larry is excited to get back to working with game devs - just as he did over at Xbox!
"I am thrilled to announce that I'm joining the Community team at Unity! Building on my long history as a developer advocate at Xbox, I'm excited to collaborate again with developers, harnessing our collective creativity to shape the future of real-time gaming and experiences. Let's make magic happen!"
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has also replied to Larry's announcement:
Although Larry first departed from Xbox almost a year ago now, he hasn't been totally quiet since then. He often still comments on Xbox and everything going on there - and he also joined Midwest Games as a board member last December.
Anyway, we wish Larry the best of luck in his new role at Unity - we still miss him and how community-focused he proved to be over at Team Xbox!

I guess Unity is needs a PR guy with all they bad press they've been getting.
From a stagnating console to a stagnating engine. So kind of a lateral move?
Good to see him back....Xbox really needed him, not sure how they let him walk like that.
The legend went from one PR dumpster fire to another
When you consider the bad press the Xbox brand has gotten since 2013 it is actually doing pretty good, most brands would have disappeared never to be heard from again. As long as people are talking about it there is always a chance it can get back to it's glory days.
It was a bit odd how he left face of Xbox for many years and he sort of announced he was going then just disappeared from Xbox with not much fanfare considering how loved he was by the xbox community
I've never had any personal interactions with him, but have heard numerous accounts he is really big time jerk.
Did get those vibes listening how he interacted with co-hosts on the Xbox podcast. Could be lot truth to those claims.
@GuyinPA75 The only really damning moment (that I recall) was immediately after the PS4 E3 2013 show, when Xbox got trounced on price and changing/amorphous policy. Angry Joe tried to interview him, and Major Nelson was pissed off and rude. I can understand in that moment being upset. Regardless, he should have handled it better. Mattrick also made the "If you can't get online, we have a console for you; Xbox 360" right in that window.
@GuyinPA75 @theduckofdeath I've had an in-person interaction with him at a PaxEast gaming conference when I stopped him in the halls. I had a few Xbox questions and he was super kind and answered all my questions with sincerity. I thanked him for his time and what he was doing for Xbox.
@NEStalgia Stagnating console? Really? Bless your heart. 😂
@Moby At the time that he left, obviously not factoring in the upcoming lineup. Remember, when he left ABK was still up in the air.
So much hate in the comments for the Xbox brand and Major Nelson, I had to check that I was indeed on Pure Xbox.
Tough gig to turn around, perception of Unity is in the gutter. Smart move by them though, Larry's a likeable pro.
Makes me wonder if his leaving was totally his choice or was be part of Xbox's past layoffs/restructurings.
