If you're as old as us, you'll probably remember a game called "The Thing" on the original Xbox back in 2002, and today, it's been announced that the geniuses at Nightdive Studios (Quake 2, System Shock Remake, Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster) are giving it the remastered treatment for modern consoles this year!
There's no date for this one just yet, but we know that it's definitely coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and will feature up to 4K, 120FPS visuals along with lots of other visual improvements across the board.
You can watch the reveal trailer up above, and we'll throw some additional details below.
"The Thing: Remastered is a faithful restoration of the cult-classic 2002 third-person survival horror shooter game inspired by Universal Pictures' genre-defining 1982 film, The Thing. Nightdive Studios has upgraded this horrifying classic for the modern era through its proprietary KEX Engine for play on current-generation gaming devices up to a 4K resolution at 120FPS.
Improvements to character models, textures, and animations have been hand-crafted by Nightdive Studios, with the implementation of advanced 3D rendering for updated lighting and atmospheric effects — for a suspenseful and disgustingly detailed remaster that reanimates the thrilling game for modern audiences."

I still have my Original Copy of this game - what a game it was (for its time) wonder how it holds up over 20yrs later?
Oh boy. This isn't boding well. Keep seeing rumor after rumor being confirmed. Definitely makes me wonder if some of the more wild owns are true now.
Holy hell this is awesome. The original was fun but the graphical update is gonna be lit.
Yes! I've been wanting this for years.
As a huge fan of the film this is rather disappointing. The game was ok, nothing more. A total remake would have been a much better option. A remaster of an average game based on an incredible film many young gamers don't even know that well or at all is a curious decision to say the least.
nice! now redo quake 4!
Missed the original but huge fan of film so looking forward to this
Huge John carpenter fan! Pre-ordered the original game and was crazy bonkers to play it. Absolutely captured the vibe and feel of the movie.
Will be buying this game again. Very rare I do that.
Loved the original on OG Xbox so this is a day one buy for me.
@Weapon_Wheel me too. Been tempted by the version on Steam but will wait for this. Also just bought the POed remaster from them.
@TJ81 Speak for yourself. Myself and many others thoroughly enjoyed this game. I also consider Carpenter's The Thing to be my favorite horror movie of all time. I'm very happy to see it being modernized because it's not very accessible currently.
@Tyrant_T103 Just my opinion. I'm happy other folks enjoyed it. There have been some brilliant games in the genre since then, the Dead Space series and many others are clearly inspired by The Thing. If this remaster is popular enough then maybe we'll get another installment 🤞
@TJ81 I for one am greatly looking forward to this remaster, being the massive Thing fan I am. As someone who only had a GameCube and a weak PC at the time, I missed out on it. 😭
@EVIL-C I'm sure I'll give it a go at some point. I think the devs that truly respect our collective nostalgia for classic films will create an original game/story - I thoroughly enjoyed Alien Isolation, Aliens Dark Descent, Terminator Resistance and Robocop Rogue City. The Thing remaster feels like a little bit of a cash grab but when it goes on sale...
@BAMozzy
I also still have my original xbox copy of... The Thing. 😊
Just a pity, they couldn't done the people who are infected random. Because once you play it once, you have seen all of the game.
Hopefully, The thing remastered, may add that to leave paranoid on playthrough on who to trust. 😉
