We thought the June 2024 edition of the Nintendo Direct was an awesome event, and it included plenty of exciting Xbox announcements after the fact, but we were also left a tad disappointed by some of the games skipping our brand.
The big one is the Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection, which was announced for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Steam with a late 2024 release window. There's no sign of Xbox as things stand, which is definitely a shame.
"Gonna take you for a ride back to the arcades with MARVEL vs. CAPCOM Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics! 7 legendary games, all in one Super Heroic collection, coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Steam, later in 2024."
Beyond that, we saw the same thing with Square Enix's Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven which is coming to Switch, PS4, PS5 and Steam, and it's a similar situation for Koei Tecmo's Fairy Tale 2 and Marvelous Inc.'s Farmagia.
It obviously wasn't all bad news though, as Square Enix announced Fantasian Neo Dimension and a November release date for Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D on Xbox, and Capcom revealed the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection.
We'll take the positives for sure... but it's still disappointing to see companies skipping Xbox with certain new releases.

Come on Capcom!!!! Xbox......
Not great news is it🤔
Not really my thing, but unfortunate to see after Xbox did in fact get Capcom Fighting Collection a couple years ago. Perhaps sales on that particular one were too weak on Xbox for them to justify bringing this over? I don't know, I'm just spitballing here.
This is a shame, but the real crime here is that yet another fighting game with a 4:3 aspect ratio and panning stages hasn't had the play area / stage expanded to fill a 16:9 aspect ratio while maintaining sprite proportions. It would be so incredibly easy to do with this genre without detracting anything from the gameplay, making for a better experience overall.
Well buying a PS5 Slim in the November sales so I will buy it sometime in the future I guess.
I played a lot of these games in the arcade (especially Marvel Superheroes and X Men Vs Streetfighter) so definitely going to get this collection.
Played Marvel Vs Capcom 2 on Dreamcast too.
This really is an excellent collection, no pun intended.
Honestly I thought this one would be on Xbox.
I mean fighting games are typically released on both Xbox and PlayStation for the most part.
I get why Monster Hunter Stories, Mega Man Battle Network and Great Ace Attorney didn’t come to Xbox but I genuinely thought this one would make it.
Sad news, I hate when Capcom does this, it was the same with the Mega Man Battle Network and the Great Ace Attorney collections 😔
Also, didn’t SE just say that they were going to stop excluding platforms from now on? So why aren’t we getting Romancing SaGa 2 on Xbox, huh Square-Enix???
Definitely a shame. Xbox got the other Capcom Fighting Collection games. Unless those didn’t do well on Xbox.
@BHPM probably low sales.
That’s probably why Capcom didn’t release Great Ace Attorney on Xbox. And Xbox probably had to pay Capcom to get Apollo Justice and the Investigaton games to Xbox.
@JoakimZ I think they meant they will stop exclusivity to one platform or one console.
oof, ouch.
I was hoping for an Xbox version, to have some proper online play.
so Steam it is, then.
@anoyonmus Yeah, likely. And it's a shame too, as when it comes to playing fighting games using a console's default controller, Xbox One and Xbox Series have my favourite d-pad for fighting games of any d-pad I have tried, even ranking slightly above the widely beloved Saturn d-pad for me.
Capcom is the only one loosing...
It's sad but oh well. Would have been wait for sale for me.
It's always one step forward and two steps back with Xbox. Square Enix is supporting Xbox more, but now Capcom and Koei Tecmo and supporting them less.
Seriously, Some of the XBOX skips I can just about get 'low sales', but some of them never even try. It's where we had to wait months or years for games like Danganronpa, while Sony gets everything day and date.
Whenever a game comes to Playstation, Switch and Steam at release, I die a little inside, since the companies don't even try to make an excuse, they just do it and hope no-one notices.
It's weird for Capcom of all people who have always supported Xbox, it can't just be low sales cause even if it is how much effort would it be to port the PS4 version to Xbone?
A shame. You need to support all platforms consistently if you want users to trust you. I hope that these are released for Xbox soon. However, reading that it's coming to Steam, PS4 and Switch, it's obvious that they are prioritising the best-selling platforms, note that PS5 is omitted although the game will be playable via backwards compatibility. Since the Steam release is a Windows version and Xbox runs Windows, I expect an Xbox version, probably an Xbox One version to sell the game on both generations.
All the other recent Capcom collections are on Xbox, so hopefully this makes it over soon 🚀
@BHPM @Tecinthehead No problem at all as the Steam version is for Windows and Xbox runs Windows. Just port the Windows version to Xbox as it's the easiest thing ever. I think that they just prioritised the best-selling platforms for launch day: PC, PS4 and Switch.
@anoyonmus No, Square Enix specifically mentioned Xbox.
It's weird how many games are on Switch and Playstation, but not on Xbox. I love my Xbox but there's so many quirks to how the overall ecosystem is ran. The weekly sales pale in comparison to the other systems as well. And why doesn't Microsoft allow 3rd party wireless controllers? For all the great things they do with GamePass, backwards compatibility and all the new games on the horizon, it's things as I mentioned before that make you wonder why things are treated so differently with Xbox in comparison.
@Banjo- Maybe it will happen a few months down the line like it does with other games first on Playstation and Switch then appearing on Xbox.
@species8472 I think so.
I guess it works out I have a Switch. Will purchase day one fo sho.
@101Force wouldn't that fundamentally alter the gameplay as you wouldn't be able to juggle people against the sides in the same way?
@GeorgeKal It is likely opposite they did they math and found that the R&D to make an Xbox version would cost more than the potential sales they'd receive. So they're actually saving money by not releasing in Xbox.
@thefly0810 They do. They're just very particular on the wireless controllers they allow.
@InterceptorAlpha it would make sense if it was some high requirements game that they would need to put some effort porting it. Its very easy to port games that have pc version on the xbox consoles they just lost about 80-90mil (coz they could also make an xbox one version just like they are doing a ps4 one) possible customers.
Seems like this is going to be a running theme going into the future.
@GeorgeKal It isn't easy at all. Between having to move over to using a split memory pool with various speeds across multiple SKUs, to a completely different type of APU, it takes quite a bit of work.
Enough work they decided that paying everyone the hours, as well as publishing, distributing, and after Xbox takes their cut, the amount they'd make back is either less or too close to what was spent, to make a profit.
Xbox's install base is less than half of Sony, greater if you include last gen, as games are still being released there. And Nintendo outsells both Xbox and Playstation combined.
Then you have to factor the genre attach rate of Xbox. Where if it isn't a shooter, the attach rate is pretty abysmal. So of the already smaller audience on Xbox, you've an even smaller one still that's interested in these types of games.
Then you have the audience like me that owns every platform. And I'm not waiting for an Xbox release to buy something if it is elsewhere already.
The Xbox Series has lost its momentum, console sales are quite low in several markets and it will probably end the generation with even fewer units than the XOne.
And this is aggravated by the policy of multiplatform games, while Sony and Nintendo generate trust with their first party games and agreements with third parties, Microsoft does just the opposite, aiming to bring its games to all platforms. I don't know if this will be good for Xbox in the long run (I have doubts), but in the short term this was inevitable, the trust of users and developers in Xbox Series is falling right now.
Even with the bright future of games and software that Xbox studios have right now, they have the seed of the possibility of being multiplatform in the future, which fatally damages hardware sales.
I hope Microsoft knows what it's doing, Xbox's past is full of bad decisions, there is no room for more failed experiments with Xbox.
@Scenes : No, it wouldn't. You have to push buttons — holding kick and punch in the arcade, or holding one of the two assist buttons in previous console ports — to swap teammates. And if the screen is expanded from 4:3 to 16:9 while maintaining sprite/tile aspect ratios then players would have to travel the same distance to reach the edge of the stage, there would just be less screen panning.
Note this kind of upgrade could be easily implemented in a lot of other tournament fighting games without any detrimental effect too, due to the way screen panning is typically implemented in those games.
LoL... Why PS4 n not PS5? This "next-Gen" is never going to start!
How weird we had the other capcom fighting collection. Very disappointing 😞
@Pabpictu
That is the thing... Xbox looks at engagement more than console sales.
PlayStation recently announced they were switching to engagement as their priority number to track going forward.
This isn't the only reason for that but a main reason...
These platforms are making a ton of money off of platform marketing. N when they go to make these deals they dont look at how many consoles have been sold. They look at how many people are playing on your platform. That includes the Xbox One and for PlayStation the PS4.
After the showcase they just put on... Dont be a Debby Downer dude. Xbox is looking better than ever, who really cares if other people are going to get the chance to play some old Xbox games.
@Pabpictu @InterceptorAlpha
The XBOX Series has a terrible install base...
Microsoft's strategy is toxic to the general player base...
Sony are good for the market...
The sheer amount of naysaying about Microsoft here is terrible. Microsoft's stance of zero exclusivity is the breath of fresh air the market needs. Pretty much 99% of games release on Playstation, while Nintendo and Microsoft have their first party releases and whatever games are deemed capable of running on Switch... or Microsoft actively negotiate a release for.
I don't see Sony having to ask any publisher for a game, they just get it, and it's been that way for several generations. If they don't get it, it's a first or second-party developer for the 'competition'.
ABK revealed how Sony doesn't negotiate for them to get a game, they negotiate for how much they can poison the negotiations that Microsoft does.
@101Force I disagree. It would change the base gameplay. It's not just showing more of the sides.. its now jump kicking across the screen takes longer.. the timing of pushing someone up against the invisible wall would be off. It wouldn't be the original game then. I think you misunderstand how much work it would be to change these things. I'm not saying don't have them as an option but I suspect that would take a lot of work and these are just rooms running in an emulator.
@BHPM Honestly I thought the Investigation collection won't be on Xbox. I am surprised it did come to Xbox.
But I am also surprised that Marvel Vs Capcom won't be coming to Xbox.
There’s been several reports on X that this has to do with Capcom not currently having the tools to port “MT” titles to Xbox. So it makes it more expensive to port vs other consoles.
https://x.com/jezcorden/status/1803134523397288206?s=46
Here’s the thing, it’s also not coming to PlayStation 5. Only PS4 is getting it. So maybe only last gen consoles are getting it, and then it comes to current gen consoles later.
@Jireland92 @Stoned_Patrol If it is on PS4 then it is on PS5 but yeah there's no actual native PS5 version simply because of money. They'd have to make more improvements for the PS5 version so it's simply a cost saving measure.
@BHPM Series X favorite D-Pad for fighting games? Are you talking about the standard controller?
The D-Pad completely sucks on 2D games. That's why I bought several different controllers for my Series X.
I can highly recommend the GameSir G7 SE and the Power A Lumectra. These have awesome D-Pads.
Also yeah, the XBox One controllers had a better D-Pad than the modern controllers. So I also got myself a One controller.
Normally I would rage about this news. But in this case, I'm absolutely fine with a Switch release.
@thefly0810 not only that but the price difference between store fronts. Shovel knight is $20 more on xbox in my region than the playstation store. Also, some games like the Metal Slug aca games and Binding of Isaac are not available here but are on the same region store on switch and playstation. Starting to feel like I should have got a ps5 instead.
@Nintendo4Sonic Well, both Series X and One, their standard controllers (I rarely use third party controllers, just not usually really my thing). I mean I do still suck at fighting games in general haha, but they are the only two d-pads on which I can consistently pull off a hadouken 100% of the time. I own most Nintendo, Sega, MS, and Sony consoles, and on no other console can I do this (Saturn is the close second, where usually I can get it, but not always). So that's my metric, really. With regards to say 2D platformers and stuff I have always preferred the PS and Nintendo (except Switch, I loathe the joycons haha) style d-pads over every Xbox d-pad, but I do still usually find the Xbox d-pads fine enough to still get a very enjoyable experience. But thanks a lot for the suggestions, I'll definitely keep those in mind!
@Jireland92 PS5 can play PS4 games so there is no issue at all with that.
This game isn't even coming to Xbox One which is the problem.
@Savage_Joe
Not exactly. If that were the case, why were Resident Evil, DMC, and hell even Monster Hunter released on Xbox?
Certain Capcom franchises will do better in West than in Japan and vice versa.
Something like Resident Evil will be popular in West thus come to Xbox
But something like Ace Attorney will be more popular in Japan thus likely no Xbox port.
@BHPM I've tried myself several games with the standard Series X controller and I think it's good for 3D games.
But the D-Pad really is kinda inaccurate.
If you can live with wired controllers, I really recommend trying these that I mentioned.
@Jireland92 That logic would be applicable if it were coming to XBox One.
It isn’t.
Darn. This was the one game that I would actually be interested in
I confess to complete indifference. If I’d wanted to play niche Japanese stuff I probably wouldn’t have bought an Xbox in the first place. 🤷♂️
@Old_Man_Harper Not sure I'd class Marvel or Street Fighter as niche.
Fighting games on xbox aren't as popular as on other platforms but they aren't going to be if companies don't release the games.
@Savage_Joe the strangest thing is that it’s getting the Investigations collection but not this. I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t, even if it doesn’t sell as many copies on Xbox that’s still extra sales it’s getting, and it’s not like porting it on there would be difficult. Something must be going on behind the scenes with this.
Hopefully we get a Capcom Arcade Stadium 3 with these games included
@Savage_Joe exactly.
Regarding this collection, fighting games have a big audience on PlayStation hence the release there. And so many people play on PC so ofc it will release on PC.
Lots of people who have a Switch would buy collections and retro games so hence it will release on Switch too.
@Jireland92 Xbox probably paid Capcom for Investigations. But I guess they didn’t for the fighting game collection.
@anoyonmus see that doesn’t make any sense. Why pay for a niche visual novel and not a collection of some of the most beloved fighting games of all time that also happens to be based on a globally recognised IP. Something else has to be keeping this from being on Xbox.
@Jireland92 guess Xbox thought the collection would come to their platform.
And I guess the sales of other fighting game collections on Xbox weren’t good so that’s probably why.
@anoyonmus again though that doesn’t make sense. Even if the sales for those games are lower on Xbox they still get more sales just for it being on the platform. Plus it isn’t like this would be difficult to port, so again there must be some other reason it’s not being put on here. Maybe they’re planning a Gamepass release down the road?
@niggyt2004 Exactly. That's why I wouldn't believe this. They're not putting it on Xbox because they don't want too.
