There's another shake-up taking place inside Xbox HQ this month, as it's been revealed that Chief Marketing Officer Jerret West will be leaving the company to join the ROBLOX team at the end of June.
This was mentioned in a report by The Verge's Tom Warren yesterday, which also included an internal memo from Xbox boss Phil Spencer. Here's a bit of what Spencer had to say:
"During his time here, Jerret was instrumental in launching and growing communities like our Xbox social universe to 120M followers strong, and product expansion like Game Pass which is now available in more than 80 countries worldwide. He oversaw the creation and delivery of global marketing campaigns for numerous games, platforms (console, PC, cloud) and brand moments such as this year’s momentous Xbox Games Showcase."
Jerret has been in the CMO role at Xbox since December 2019, but he also worked for the brand from 2003-2011 in a variety of positions including Global Product Manager and Director of Marketing. At Roblox, he'll serve as the new Chief Marketing Officer as well as the Head of Market Expansion.
Apparently, Phil Spencer has decided to "place marketing closer to the businesses they support" moving forward, which means various organisational changes are being made internally. As part of this, games marketing will now be part of the "Studios" organisation which is led by Matt Booty, while the Xbox marketing team will now report to Sarah Bond.
From all of us here at Pure Xbox, we wish Jerret the best of wishes in his new role at Roblox!

I wonder why they won't sack Greenberg...
didn't know they HAD a marketing department! Certainly don't do anything in the UK!!
I hate to be that guy, but I hope that this maybe, just maybe, could pave the way for Xbox actually putting reasonable effort into marketing going forward. Marketing is so much more important to the brand's success than many might realize.
He already didn't do anything for MS and now he's heading over to a game that literally sells itself. Bro living life on Easy mode. How do I get this job?
Man I really hope this reverses that absolutely dismal job MS has been doing in the marketing dept. for the past few years.
The fact that he left Xbox for Roblox sort of says enough about the quality of work he’s done, even without the fact that Xbox has been mired in disaster after disaster in PR without being able to hype themselves out of it. I’d argue 2019-2024 has been the nadir of Xbox’s ability to make themselves look appealing as a brand, even worse than the Xbone reveal, and that’s largely marketing and PR.
So that's the face of Xbox's horrendous marketing program....
I'm sorry, but good riddance.
It’s intriguing that Roblox, a huge business, has a good perception about this guy’s job.
It makes me thing that we don’t lobos nothing of what’s happening inside.
Xbox marketing is terrible
you dont know whats coming out till it suddenly appears on the "recently added to gamepass tab
There's always been something wrong with the marketing of Xbox. Not saying it's this guy at all, I'm wondering if it's a Microsoft issue where they just don't have any budget for marketing so they are doing a great job with the scraps afforded to them? I can't see how you could keep people in their roles otherwise....cuz as everyone is saying.... Xbox marketing is abysmal
Finally! A way of getting rid of Roblox once and for all!
The last time I saw a advertisement for Xbox was when the new generation got accounced so I don't know what this guy was doing.
In Canada you don’t even know Xbox exists unless you stumble across one in a dingy corner somewhere… easier to get alcohol
@Krzzystuff I can't really agree. It definitely fell off with the Xbox One. Prior to that they knew how to ad campaign.
The OG Xbox'S marketing was fantastic. Everything from the in-your-face ads, typical of the time, and the iconic green x tearing open.
And they turned it up higher for the 360. In my opinion you'll never see a better ad campaign for anything than what was done with Halo 3's Believe campaign. I between Blomkamp's amazing live action work(still mad his Halo movie was canceled) and the diaoramas with the vet actors. So good. And while that stands out, they were repeatedly on top of their game. Even going so far as to do a TV show for Viva Pinata and collectible cards.
It was only really in the Xbox One era, but in particularly after Nadella took over Microsoft, that it pretty much died out. Though he has repeated shown he is not a fan of hardware and would prefer Microsoft be software only.
@Dimey
Or Europe! Well, in any case they are also skipping the Netherlands.
@EdgarTheBug
Collecting pay checks and maybe sitting in his office playing Roblox.
What Xbox marketing??? Not in the UK.
Good because Xbox’s marketing has largely sucked. Maybe they will get someone that actually knows what they’re doing.
That seems like a downgrade to me.
I’m sure he’s very passionate about Roblox… (and is getting a pay increase)
XBOX marketing? I have never seen that.
So with this change we might go from zero UK marketing for Xbox to at least… something? Ooh.. that feeling of hope.. must suppress it!
Maybe the substitute will notice that Europe exists.
