There's another shake-up taking place inside Xbox HQ this month, as it's been revealed that Chief Marketing Officer Jerret West will be leaving the company to join the ROBLOX team at the end of June.
This was mentioned in a report by The Verge's Tom Warren yesterday, which also included an internal memo from Xbox boss Phil Spencer. Here's a bit of what Spencer had to say:
"During his time here, Jerret was instrumental in launching and growing communities like our Xbox social universe to 120M followers strong, and product expansion like Game Pass which is now available in more than 80 countries worldwide. He oversaw the creation and delivery of global marketing campaigns for numerous games, platforms (console, PC, cloud) and brand moments such as this year’s momentous Xbox Games Showcase."
Jerret has been in the CMO role at Xbox since December 2019, but he also worked for the brand from 2003-2011 in a variety of positions including Global Product Manager and Director of Marketing. At Roblox, he'll serve as the new Chief Marketing Officer as well as the Head of Market Expansion.
Apparently, Phil Spencer has decided to "place marketing closer to the businesses they support" moving forward, which means various organisational changes are being made internally. As part of this, games marketing will now be part of the "Studios" organisation which is led by Matt Booty, while the Xbox marketing team will now report to Sarah Bond.
