We've got some sad news to report coming out of Summer Game Fest 2024, as the highly-anticipated Black Myth: Wukong has suffered a delay that's exclusive to Xbox Series X and S, with all other versions still launching this August.
The team says that it hopes to minimise the wait for Xbox owners, but there's no target date as of yet:
"PC and PS5 users can enjoy the full game starting August 20, 2024. We are currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards, so it won't release simultaneously with the other platforms. We apologize for the delay and aim to minimize the wait for Xbox users. We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards."
Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for this one, as it's looking good! We'll let you know when there's a new date.

2024 so this is pretty standard 🙄
Kind of getting tired of being a second-class citizen 😆
Series s strikes again
@Rmg0731 I think you mean Series Potato
I don't mind the wait at all.
Another casualty of Series S
@armondo36 If you're an Xbox-only gamer you've been a second class citizen for a decade now...
Series s parity strikes again glad i bought a 4090 can get rid of my ps5 and series x
With no further information too many people are very quick to ASSUME it’s due to Xbox Series S. I think it’s just as likely that Xbox is in third place generally and they want to prioritise the most played platforms, rather than being a Series S issue specifically.
@themightyant That could very much be true. We don't have enough information. Could a combination of the theorized events that lead to Xbox missing the Aug. 20th date.
@themightyant
Yep if I was that studio and wanted a return on investment sooner I would go PS5 first and get the game out. It has double the user base.
It’s their first game, so could just have been a time constraint? Or maybe as others said prioritise bigger install base.
Either way they haven’t shown gameplay so a delay could even mean it hits Xbox in a better state
Wonder if the real delay is due to having make sure the game is capable of running on the problem child Series S?
It maybe the series s or not.
But looking at current prices in the UK why would most general public pick up a weaker series s.
Xbox should have had an all digital series x for the same price and not the series s or both.
The black 1tb series s is £300.
At the moment in the UK you can PS5 digital 1tb for £350.
Why buy the series s. The full powerful console is only £50 more.
Forget any loyalty or branding just go on power alone. If you now add branding then PlayStation wins even more, especially in Europe, UK etc and even USA nowadays.
Love how much different the tone of the Push Square article is. The first sentence of it says the game is “now a PS5 exclusive”. Not temporary exclusive. Just exclusive. And not everyone reads entire stories so people are going to read that and take it as gospel.
I may need to get my PlayStation news elsewhere. Oh well, looking forward to this game no matter when I play it.
Blame the Series S
@awp69 : Push Square and Pure Xbox are very polarizing sites although they are run by the same people but they love to see readers picking sides....and yet you could easily get banned if you react against someone's toxic/trolling comments caused by the very same polarizing articles.
Well that's a 20$ or less move there. See yall on sale in a couple years.
Series S stikes again! Unfortunately is going to be more common as games become for advanced. Hopefully Microsoft learned it's lesson and next gen they will have two systems with equal power.
@themightyant This is most likely the case...
We saw the same thing last gen. Xbox is just not a priority.
@themightyant "With no further information too many people are very quick to ASSUME it’s due to Xbox Series S"
Because we're basing it on previous situations (from this year!) and comments made by many developers from various studios. Is it possible it's because they want to prioritise PS5? yes! But are we really beyond the pale for suggesting it might be because of the series S again?
@Ricky-Spanish Interesting. 🤔 Looking at the comments here. It's pretty obvious lot of people see the Series S for what it is.
Series S yet again causing issues.
@Gamer_X I don’t think Pure Xbox is as bad as Push Square in that regard.
Anyway, to Push Square’s credit they change the article to say “exclusive at launch” (though the entire article still seems designed to push those console war buttons).
Anytime this happens the games typically run like ***** on PS5 and PC at release and by the time they fix those they also drop the working Xbox version.
I'm now looking forward for people here to somehow start blaming the Series S for the war in Ukraine🤦♂️😅...
@themightyant which is arguably worse. If there’s no XSS technical reasons and Xbox market share is simply too small to bother with then that’s a bad omen for the future of 3rd party support on Xbox.
Thank the gods for From Software. Carrying Xbox through the summer with SOTE. The moment that they drop Xbox support is when Xbox is dead to me, I really hope that day never comes.
They rid say that they need to optimise for the series x|s, so I am guessing it's because they need to optimise it for the series s. If that's the case, then I think xbox should allow it to release on series x first and series s later, after it has been properly optimised.
Because usually if a game comes out on another platform first, and people want that game, some might get it on the platform it is available on, first. And then if it comes out on xbox later, after already buying it on another platform, they most likely won't buy the game again. Some people might wait or some people probably just have an xbox only, but those are probably a small number of people.
I know I won't wait, unless it's on a platform I don't like, like the epic games store.
@Sol4ris Let's be real: the Series S needing to be supported has already delayed a few games, so it's a reasonable assumption to make. Weaker platforms take time to optimize ports for. Switch versions of AAA games sometimes take years to get right.
@awp69 could just use Gematsu. The site just regurgitates the press released info from agnostic standpoint
Of course its series s. If all of Xbox's very own 1st party 2019/2020 games were all released by now, you would have a case that it is lazy devs in this specific case. There isn't even an ingame screenshot of some of these games 4 years later.
After the disastrous Halo Infinite, franchise destroying, gameplay reveal, Phil is terrified to show any footage of games since. For example, they never showed any raw gameplay with HUDs of Redfall right up to its release.
But you can't say its down to the devs because it makes no sense if you say it is their fault.
More time is required for Kinect implementation in the game, and to add microtransactions.
@Ralizah
Making assumptions can indeed be reasonable, the problem is that blaming Series S has now become a borderline obsession. And excludes any other valid reasons for delays, be it resources, install base prioritising etc. That's all I'm saying 😀.
@riceNpea
Hey old timer, you left Eurogamer to come and jest about Xbox on PX? Long time no see all that 😁.
@Sol4ris having said that, it's obviously the fault of Series S. Nothing else would make a game delayed indefinetly. Well, one thing, that the sales they projected from Xbox owners aren't worth the investment of time and money trying to get the game ready for launch.
@Sol4ris yeah. I lurk around haunting websites remembering the days when websites didn't inject ideology into everything 😁 and I didn't leave EG, they left me. Turned into purple haired, scream at the moon, justice warriors with a ban hammer addiction. Good to see you 😊
@cornholio005 I feel sorry for you, gonna wait for at least a year to play GTA6 on PC
@Dr_ENT i hated 5 so i can wait
So.... Parity issue?
