At today's Xbox Games Showcase 2024, it was announced that three new versions of the Xbox Series X|S consoles are coming to market in the near future, including an all-digital version of the Xbox Series X.
The three models are as follows:
- 1TB All-Digital Xbox Series S (Robot White) - $349.99
- 1TB All-Digital Xbox Series X (Robot White) - $449.99
- 2TB Special Edition Xbox Series X (Galaxy Black) - $599.99
All of them will be available in select markets as of Holiday 2024, and Xbox advises to check back in the coming months for details about which exact markets they'll be available in, along with regional pricing and pre-order info.
"With the launch of new games for Xbox Series X|S and PC like Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle™, and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, this is one of the best years ever to upgrade your console or jump into Xbox for the first time."

prices will be interesting on these
The pricing of that all digital X will be interesting to see.
Series s was always all digital
Glad that they aren’t getting rid of the disc drive series X for the foreseeable future. It’s the better deal for those that buy games like me. I’ll still be hanging onto my current Series X.
Damn, I was hoping for the gyro controller!
I got a Series S with a storage expansion but I might pick up that digital series X
@trev666 $350/€350, $450/€500, $600/€650
@Artois2 it's just the white series s with a 1gb instead of 500gb...so like the black series s
How about that controller revision?
@Artois2
Not sure what that has to do with the being officially called that my Microsoft.
Guess that's the hardware they were announcing for later this year. Rather disappointing, now they will have five (?) different models. While I won't buy a PS5 anytime soon, having one SKU with an option to upgrade seems a smarter move (and less of a headache for everyone involved).
Finally an all digital series x and at 1tb so it should be priced to at least match PS5 digital.
Gyro controller is next gen I assume or a rumour.
3 consoles. Oh boy the physical being the most expensive and only 1 of the 3 hmm, sigh, not surprised but still glad they have the option then not. Different colours and more storage is a nice addition for sure though I do appreciate that.
Lmao these are priced to scare players out, the 1TB Series S is $349, all-digital Series X is $449 and 2TB Series X with Disc Drive is $599.
Microsoft really doesn’t want to sell consoles…
The digital Series X looks the same size as the regular model to my eyes? If that’s the case then that seems a missed opportunity to me, is it just empty space under the case? Maybe it is smaller, but it’s not obvious in the renders. I suppose it doesn’t matter much if the pricing is right. At least they have a product to compete directly with PS5 Digital now.
The thing that was noticeably missing is the new controller, are they keeping if for the next generation? The digital Series X is exactly like the model that was leaked, but there was also another cylindrical model leaked during the ABK acquisition. My guess is that they designed the cylindrical model and ditch it. The most interesting thing about this announcement is that the leaked cylindrical model was 2TB and they replaced that with a disc drive model.
If I did not already own 2 XSX, I would get that Special Edition Xbox for my office.
Maybe I can sell one of the XSX or turn it into a gift for someone in my social circle.
Wow, much more expensive than I would have guessed. Pretty optimistic pricing given the current sales figures for Xbox.
So no “Pro” version of the Series X to counter Sony’s expected PS5 Pro later this year? 🤔
Damn those are expensive. Not sure about that pricing, probably best to get a current console unless these ones have other updates like better WiFi or something?
In all seriousness, who is going to further invest in the xbox family of consoles when it's clear their focus lies in software/subscription??
@Nightcrawler71 To be fair though, Sony hasn’t announced any new games apart from its hero shooter. So all you will be doing with the ‘pro’ is playing your old games at a faster frame rate.
@Cakefish I’m not so sure? To me it looks smaller?
@tho_mi Nope, they also stated new hardware will be coming for the holidays. Many expect it to be a new handheld from the company.
Two game rental machines and an actual full console for $100 above what the 1 TB X cost.
Glad I got my Series X when I did, I guess! Yes, I know the all digital future is coming. I just refuse to participate.
Those pricings make zero sense to me. An extra 150 for an extra Tb of storage? Surely someone must have suggested at least doing a digital series x to match the PS5 digital price point. Even if it just had 1 Tb of storage in it.
Also notice that the disc model is limited in numbers.
For me unless my series s can't run the exclusives at 60fps then I won't be upgrading that's the only reason to buy a series x I won't be paying over 400 pound for a digital series x that's for sure
Seem kinda pricey. I was hoping for a new controller. The Xbox Series controller hurts my hand, so I'm stuck with the ancient Xbox One controller (which is excellent)
@dskatter The discs are rentals too. Do any of them even work out of the box without patches?
I already have an Xbox
@jesse_dylan Of course they do. There are exceptions like Jedi Survivor, but most games play just fine without updates.
I was hoping to see the rumored Xbox handheld.
At this price, who are these for?
Most families will stick with the regular S for the kids you would imagine?
For any Americans, Best Buy has the current Series X for $399. Today only.
Snag it, it’s a bargain compared to these!
@Medic_alert I have a feeling the pro model will be the same as the 2tb disc model X.
@S1ayeR74 I hope you’re right, but I had another look and it still looks the same size as the current model to my eyes. Just have to wait for dimensions to be revealed to know for sure!
@Medic_alert completely agree with you. I cannot understand how they landed on those prices at all. Throw the digital X at the same price as the digital PS5, simply just to compete. Absolutely baffling why they wouldn't do that without adding a bit of extra oomph to it.
And 650 for the new 'limited' disc model is simply just stupid.
We need bigger expansion cards or better yet a way to use our own ssd's, not new consoles
@Cakefish Definitely need to wait for a proper view as we are going by a single picture with a funny angle.
The all digital series x cost a lot more than the digital PS5. So wouldn't this make people choose the PS5 over xbox, if they were to get a console?
Hoping this means Xbox isn't ready to fully give up like fearmongers have suggested. There needs to be a competitor to Sony in the 'premium' home console market, even if it's a distant second.
Of course they are not giving up, they're ahead of Sony and Nintendo in gaming revenue. Consoles are just another way to sell subscriptions and software.
Rather get a $150-200 512GB Series S
I was hoping that the fabled Xbox handheld would be at least teased, but still, a 2TB Series X with a tacky design (and I mean that as a compliment, I love tacky designs like that) is something I might wave my money at down the line.
But no controller to compete with dual sense ?
SSD flash prices have been increasing, so I'm not surprised at the prices. I guess they don't want to sell these sku's at a loss. Hoping they did a die shrink to lower the power draw a bit.
There are six Series models now, as if it was a Surface lineup. This is what I predicted Xbox consoles will become and this is how the Xbox hardware makes sense, many choices that are just another way to sell Xbox subscriptions and software along PC.
@Cakefish A video of the new consoles, looks like it’s the same size sadly.

@S1ayeR74 I like the Series X Special Edition, it reminds me of Xbox One Scorpio.
@S1ayeR74 A missed opportunity. So must be just empty space there then? Considering the original design was so compactly built and impressively dense in design it’s just disappointing to not take any advantage of going digital only I think. I understand it’s a lot cheaper to just reuse the design in this way, but Sony didn’t cheap out when they designed PS5 Digital.
@Cakefish Actually, they did. They made the heat sink smaller in every PS5 redesign and introduced cheaper/simpler components. There are some articles and videos about it and how it gets hotter, too. But yes, it was cheaper to remove the disc drive of the Series X and keep the same design. You are right about that. They ditched that cylindrical prototype.
@Banjo- The smaller heatsink was present in the disc edition of the slim model PS5 too. So Sony didn’t cheap out on the digital-only PS5 relative to the disc edition is my point. PS5 Digital takes full advantage of not having a disc drive by being genuinely smaller and sleeker in form factor. This digital-only XSX looks fine to be clear, because it’s literally the same as the regular model, but it’s weird to think it’s just empty space internally where the disc drive would otherwise be.
@Cakefish They had a cylindrical prototype for the All-Digital Series X leaked during the ABK acquisition that reflects your logic, but it seems that they ditched it. If I had to get a new model, I'd get the Galaxy Black. If the white model can be found cheaper at retail it would be the best deal for most people.
@Banjo- For me, that’s the big appeal of digital-only options; the ability to shrink the design down into something smaller and sleeker. Again, I think this looks absolutely fine at face value, but it just doesn’t wow me like the original XSX design did - which was impressively compact and space efficient.
@Cakefish You're right, I was praising your logic because it matches Microsoft's engineers, but as I said the only reason to ditch the cylindrical and smaller model is likely because it was cheaper to keep the same frames and because the rest of the components are expensive, especially the 2TB SSD. I don't know if you watched the Digital Foundry videos when they visited Microsoft's headquarters before Series X was released. They show how the consoles are built and it's actually the disc drive the reason why the shape of the console is rectangular.
The 2TB Xbox Series X SE is $599.99? That's an interesting choice since the upcoming PS5 Pro is expected to be $599.99 as well.
So now all the people claiming MS isn't making hardware anymore can shut up.
@Cakefish I agree, those two guys made another full in depth video on them and it is exactly the same size, they said the same thing it's a shame they didn't make something new, but understood like you say it's another to just reuse the same design. Looks good in white though.
@TheSimulator Hmm, it comes down to personal preference I think, having used both I find the dual sense to be more solid feeling in the hand, the resistive trigger things are cool but just a gimmick, and it's battery life is utterly pathetic, of course Sony will sell you one with longer lasting battery.. Xbox controller works perfectly fine, doesn't feel as solid and substantial but of course its battery life is miles better. I get on alright with both really.
If you buy a current series X plus a 1tb expansion drive wouldn't that cost the same as the new 2 Tb model coming out for Christmas?
No real savings or deals to be had there at all.
Maybe it's just to refresh the stock lines and try to stir up more interest in the systems last couple of years. I suppose 2tb is more convenient that the stock 1tb. Maybe ...
@S1ayeR74 yea it’s just crazy Microsoft isn’t as innovative as Sony . I feel they should try tk be the first to create cool ideas
@TheSimulator Eh? It is as innovative, Quick Resume is brilliant, and a feature far better then Sonys adaptive triggers.
I'm seriously now considering ditching my PS5 and returning to Xbox.
The 2TB Series X does look nice but at £549.99 that is steep and they are not doing themselves any favours when they are already seriously lagging behind on console sales.
I’m good for storage as I’ve just bought a 1TB SSD Seagate expansion card for my Series X.
@Cakefish Yes it’s weird it’s exactly the same size as Series X, especially as the specific size of that box is dictated by the dimensions of the disc drive. At the very least they could have used that extra space to improve their design and add an m.2 slot so we could add our own expansion SSDs at a fraction of the cost of this. Like @LX_FENIX suggested
@Weebleman Agreed. Bonkers pricing. $150 for 1TB extra is nuts.
@InterceptorAlpha i too wanted the new controller. My guess is either that plan got scraped or they are just going to hang onto it and launch it with the next console in 2026. So it makes that console feel more new and updated. I really wanted to see it tho.
@IOI This is a very misguided, poor take. Please take a basic business class or two, and how much R&D costs alone to push out new hardware.
Much, much, much rather had Elite Controller 3 than any these.
@themightyant Realistically, it could never be a different design.
Microsoft spend a metric ton in developing the mother/daughter board set up with the giant heat sink in the middle.
Anything else would have required whole new R&D. The X is a much more though out layout than just a MOBO with soem fans and heatsinks slapped on.
And the inside of the Series X is wall to wall. You don't have like an inch of buffer like you have had on pretty much every other console.
The thing also isn't rigig because of a solid frame. It is rigid because it is well to wall hardware. The guts just kinda slip in and out like a well fit glove.
@GuyinPA75 Agreed. I'd have been happy with just confirmation of the new controller revision. Because that by extension would have essentially been confirmation a revised elite was coming as well.
Really interesting to see that they're keeping at least one model with a physical disc drive, which means that we're still given a choice on this matter.
Yes, you can love Xbox and physical media. For at least a little more.
I notice two things, nevertheless :
1) This Galaxy Black look is a beauty. I want it.
2) I'm guessing the original Series X is gonna be replaced by this model, so, now, for those who really want a disc drive, the console is even more expensive. A sign of times, I guess.
But even Alan Wake 2 is coming on disc. So, yeah... we can still play a little longer with physical medias. For those who want to.
@StylesT ah for some reason I thought it was already 1tb my mistake. Sorry
I want decent games not another console i already have... this generation has been the biggest let down ever.... what is going on xbox, I never liked playstation but ye are pushing me away... my series x is 4 yrs old now and still I wait fir a decent game ??? Ye should be paying me too play at this stage, and look at what ye done to microsoft rewards it only takes 3 yrs to a 1 month games pass subscription phhhh angry xbox Owner
When will the next gen be announced? Next year or 2026?
Disappointed, I was hoping for new southbridge IO updates (BT & Wi-Fi), but it seems we got lumped with new colours and SSD increases, oh and a diskless X version!
Still waiting on a "mid life" update/die shrink!
I'll be playing elden ring get things sorted for the dlc drop and probably some eafc and sonic colours aswell
