I would not believe everything I read on the internet. What might be the case, Sony adding the game to Extra next month in a temp exclusivity deal? Not unheard-of, although I personally hate it if true..
If I'm honest, PS Plus beats it on both fronts. Essential is just way way better than Games with gold, but I feel like that is on purpose by MS. Extra/Premium vs Game pass is closer, but I give PS a win for a bit higher quality offering. All of this can change, and by the end of the year this comment might look laughable..
Hopefully game does well. Don't mean anything bad by it, but it could become a Stray type of phenomenon (at least that is my impression from trailers).
@GunValkyrian I've re-read what I wrote, and it does not sound correct. What I meant is I would be happy with it being a time exclusive (but I don't know if it is). Anyway, English is not my first language, sorry for the confusion
As GP subs are starting to run out, I feel like maybe these "anti-consumer" politics thrown at Sony are starting to lose ground. My GP sub is soon up, and as I admitted elsewhere I have not purchased a single game. My Series S is about to become a very expensive paperweight, which is all fine. It's just that, for amount of money I invested, there is zero ownership I gained (such is the nature of renting, I know). And end of day, I have not actually enjoyed it that much (subject to change, this comment might age poorly, depends on offering over a time span).
I have personally not bought any Series games, but that might be fine, because I got the console specifically to be GP machine. So there you go.. no story. However, I am concerned with MS Studios and output they are providing recently.
There are some good games in there. Not a huge fan of subscription model, I like to own physical copies of extremely dear games, but it's fine.. I'll try it out, just as GP..
Genuinely had to open the article to see how the list was going to be padded. And it's not hate, I'm an Xbox owner just as everybody else. But man, would it have been a short list without backward compatibility
Uncalled for, especially with the language used. But it does not make it completely false (there is obviously a management problem at MS Studios, and it most likely isn't Phil, but it still needs to be resolved quickly, preferably with few "future endeavors").
This was always going to be a problem with transferring subscription model from videos to games.. keeping steady stream of new content is harder. Unless MS turns to a bite-sized content, episodic games with few hours of gameplay a month. Most people that jumped on GP early are slowly but surely running out of reasons to justify 15$ a month.
@suikoden not sure it's a pushsquare "rule".. more often then not I find their reviews to be "fair". 7/10 is a good score, it's a decent but not perfect game (which sounds about right). Oversaturating an 8/10 region is not helping, it nullifies the purpose behind scores. At this point it means "there is an audience for this out there, you'll probably know who you are".
CGI is cringe.. there are movements that were product of engine limitations in earlier games. Somehow, they decided to turn that into a normal behaviour in live series universe
Called it almost immediately after the initial announcement, unfortunately.. They created a super-studio made almost exclusively out of individuals wanting to be the core of their employer operation. With an additional workforce, you could spin-off 4-5 different studios by talent behind The Initiative creative. It's just a proof of more not always being better :/
@somnambulance actually yes, because 5 year old console is still my personal favourite out of current machines.. I would however, expect everyone interested to already have one (OLED model might be a reason though)
@Dezzy70 being in the same line of work as you might be a coincidence, but I came to exactly the same conclusions. Experience might be a huge factor, MS has a decent history in hardware game by now, and it shows. Copying model to a studio with unbalanced staffing might be challenging, and could take longer then initially expected.. I don't know what the problem is exactly, but it's turning a blind eye denying it.
@BrilliantBill wouldn't be so sure about putting blame on a "lead" individual. BP and F2P models are decided by management, and led almost exclusively by return projections. If anything, MP core gameplay-wise wasn't that bad, and I would assume this man just had enough of succeeding but still globally failing due to uncontrollable factors..
@Nightcrawler71 most drives these days are advertised as PS5 compliant. There is also a trend of slightly cheaper drives built specifically with PS5 usage in mind.. I got mine 1TB for about 120$ on a sale. Also, I voted "No, I haven't bought one yet, and I'm not planning to" due to crazy prices.
@themightyant There are 2 big problems that sometimes result in sketchier performance on Series X compared to PS5, although it should be a more powerful console.
First, and very obvious, is 2 very different targets with upfront promised feature parity (writing this as Series S owner). S is going to put limitations and constraints on how X is utilized. It is just a practical reality.
Second, that can be deduced from some other DF analysis videos, Series consoles seem to unnecessarily target higher resolution compared to PS5, especially in their DRS profiles. Results of that practice are a marginally better video quality when inspected in a lab, but lower perceived performance (generally, it lands a game in a not too flattering territory of maintaining framerate between 52-60 fps).
What I love about DF analysis is that they finally acknowledged not everybody has a VRR capable display (I believe Thomas pointed that out). Kudos to them for that. Performance should be fixed on a game level instead of relying on still globally unspread technology.
I would say well deserved, but it wasn't, so I won't.. (MP was broken at launch and still is, SP campaign is boring and sterile, in pure amounts of fun can't hold a candle to Metroid Dread)
It's OK to play Halo Infinite, I did too. But giving it such public recognition and awards is only going to encourage future unfinished products.
@Shigurui you sir have just given me one of the best ideas in recent gaming history. Instead of game pass or season pass, stability pass. You pay extra for patches and support, to make the games actually playable. Current generation seems like a great candidate for such a monetization plan (maybe Ubi, Activision or Square can see the potential..).
I'm always baffled by these messages.. why apologize and act surprised a clearly broken game is broken AFTER YOU RELEASE IT. Nobody else pushed it out the door for you (by this I don't mean individual, I mean company), own it. Don't beg for sympathy you clearly didn't have for your user-base a week ago.
They really should have acquired Bungie (couldn't resist, sorry). I have officially lost my patience and uninstalled Halo Infinite, with another game taking its precious SSD space. Even if they do add content now, it will take a serious change and effort for me to re-bother with it.
Not sure how is this even a surprise, it's a modern re-incarnation of a game that was made popular in 2008. as a F2P alternative to CS:GO. If it was perfectly polished it would have been a relic of the past.
One has to love where this is going. MS planning to support other platforms, just as Sony with Bungie (and almost certainly those 10 other service games). Ideally, there is time before us where it truly becomes about the content you purchase/rent and less about the machine you consume it on (single licence all platforms anyone?)..
@Medic_Alert other examples of a service pattern very much support such claim. It is not a world we used to live in anymore (where gamers played through Metroid so many times, that bugs had to be kept in re-releases because they became part of expected gameplay). Nor, as relatively recent examples of Halo and Forza community numbers are suggesting, are people sticking with a game for extended periods of time. It's a plenty of offering, low investment, no attachments, kind of world. In such circumstances it's easier to overlook issues and negatives, which is an incentive to developers to get the game out of the door and move on to the next one (all of this doesn't apply to GaaS model, which is a complete opposite, with high investment, where a single games content is essentially the service).
One of my biggest tech mistakes over the last few years was falling under media influence and getting Series S. And before people start hammering on me, no, not because of some MS/Nintendo/Sony debate. It was a mistake because I believed the experience wouldn't be affected as significantly to matter to me. In reality, presentation is subpar, performance is typically targeting 30fps max and is painfully worse compared to 60fps modes on other machines.. If I have been objectively informed about the state of things, no I would not have decided to skip Xbox generation, I would have made some cuts and purchased Series X instead.
@NEStalgia I don't want to be rude, but 343i is inadequate to work on the franchise they got handed to them. Also, due to that, Killzone Shadowfall and Halo Infinite on release day, Killzone might actually be better. But, on an original topic, this shouldn't be a discussion and I don't know why it was made into one. Different genres and approaches, audiences. GT7 is probably gonna be a great game, just as FH5 was and future FM will be. And gamers win with all 3.
@LtSarge like it or not, Destiny is printing money for them. And it has been growing over years, not slowing down. So, while not my personal cup of tea, company is profitable, on the rise, and has pedigree in FPS (where Sony might be preparing for COD leaving). It's a smart purchase
@BomberBlur07 it actually probably isn't, especially due to how these numbers are presented (revenue vs. profit). But I would imagine it eventually (maybe soon) will be. However, as a consumer, it was a rather good year.
Loved the DF analysis. It's ok to point out these deficiencies because they won't be fixed unless acknowledged (at the end of the day, dev team won't feel like there is a perceived issue to fix). And I completely expected them to be there. However, main takeaway from that analysis is that 343 got it right when it comes to gameplay, which is great news and one that matters. That would have been way harder to polish in post-release patch. All around, I'm happy with how it turned out.
Hmmm, could it be that FPS Boost bought them some time until proper next gen exclusives started landing? And now, it doesn't make business sense/money to invest further in it? It is all just business in the end, big corporations ain't "preserving gaming history" from the goodness of their heart..
Unpopular opinion here, but I've been playing the game on PC (the way FPS games are intended to be played) and it has been a pretty mediocre experience in general. Much better game than reviews would lead you believe. Easily the best BoTW alternative if you can't play the real thing (aka. no Switch).

I mean, math doesn't work, but that doesn't change the fact this is a huge oversight/bug. Glad they fixed it though.

Actually, I'm ok with Starfield being timed XBox exclusive, just make it polished.
Also, cross-platform purchases as a slightly more expensive tier!
