If you happen to follow the good folks over at our sister site Push Square, you may have seen yesterday that Sony held a PlayStation State of Play event decided entirely towards Gran Turismo 7, and we have to say, it looks great!
You can imagine what happened next though. Forza began trending on social media, and the hot debate yesterday became whether Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo is the better series, leading to a fair bit of disgruntlement:
Some of the debates we've seen have been pretty harsh. Lots of people are comparing Gran Turismo 7 with Forza Horizon 5, which doesn't really make sense considering they're very different games, while Forza Motorsport 7 is now five years old — the true comparison will be the new version of Forza Motorsport, which doesn't have a release date yet.
Nevertheless, the Gran Turismo 7 footage has sparked the Forza community into life as well, requesting certain GT7 features such as window stickers, improved visuals and much more for the new Forza Motorsport.
Here's a selection of threads from the Forza Reddit page:
Ultimately, it looks like Gran Turismo 7 is going to be a great entry in the series for PlayStation, and we're sure the next Forza Motorsport will do the same thing for Xbox. On both sides, it's a a great time to be a fan of sim racing games.
What do you make of the Forza Vs. Gran Turismo 7 debate? Let us know your thoughts below.

Yeah, that comparison doesn't make sense. Might not even make sense when the next mainline Forza comes out because who knows when that's happening.
I'm sure both will be amazing as they both have been for years. Seems silly to even put a spotlight on bizarro twitter spats tbh.
I personally prefer Forza over Gran Turismo, always have. Back when I started playing these games, I gave Forza Motorsport 2 on the 360 a go and was hooked instantly. Then I played Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 and it was the opposite experience. It was hard to progress in that game, you had to have certain cars, which meant that you had to grind a lot in order to access the next races. And this was early on in the career mode! Moreover, the menu was a mess and it didn't have a rewind feature. I tried giving Gran Turismo 6 a shot but it's apparently not even playable on PS3 anymore since there are so many patches to download that you can't even download them, it just stops downloading after a while.
So yeah, I've pretty much given up on Gran Turismo and I vastly prefer Forza, both Motorsport and Horizon. I mean, the rewind feature alone is enough to keep me wanting to play these games because I'm not that good at racing games. But I enjoy them a lot, especially when I put on a podcast in the background and then do a bunch of races. It's great fun and I'm looking forward to playing the next Forza Motorsport.
Couldn't get into any of the Forza games I've played. Always end up buying Gran Turismo when it comes down to about £15 but usually get bored of it after about 20 hours or so. An inevitably I'll play F7 on GP and hate it and buy GT7 cheap and get bored of it. Still trying to live out those glory days on the PS1.
What's the definition of insanity again?
I loved FM6 because it was similar in many ways to GT. Forza 7, a completely different story. It's tough to compare GT7, which comes out in March, with a game we haven't even really seen yet and the devs have been mum about it for way too long. Ultimately, I hope FM8 is more like FM6, but I'm lucky to be able to enjoy both games.
Not a driving game fan ( apart from burnout paradise) so dont care which is better...but saying that comparing a 5 Ur old game to one just being released is stupid ,.........****ing fanboys always have to argue over any old *hit
I stick with Forza Horizon and other mostly arcade racers and pretty much ignore both FM and GT. I just can’t get into all the gritty details of those sims let alone be good at the hardcore racing itself.
Those are games I might get on the cheap to tinker with or in the case of FM on GamePass. But that’s about it.
Well I always thought Gran Turismo was a fantastic in depth game. Played a few. But I also like Forza Motorsport and played the one launched in the Xbox 360 to completion I think, in the career mode anyway.
GT7 is pretty impressive looking, but we haven't really seen the new Forza yet so we can't really compare the 2.
I think they are both fantastic sim racers.
@LtSarge I play GT6 regularly on PS3. The patching issue was fixed about 8 years ago. The only part that's unplayable is online races as the servers have been turned off.
@Shigurui It's not fixed though as I've seen Reddit posts from 2020 saying that you have to download one patch, cancel the process, download the next one and so on if you're trying to download all of them at the same time. People have said that this takes 4 or even 8 hours. I'm not going to bother with that.
Gt7 looks pretty darn fantastic. The hype is entirely justified. If I had a ps5 I'd buy it at launch which I basically never do. I can't see how Turn10 is gonna outdo Polyphone.
@LtSarge I put a new HDD in my PS3 in December and reinstalled the game and patches with no issues whatsoever. Took about an hour. The problem was when the game had dozens of small patches. Now it has around 6 total iirc.
These are never really arguments though and are just people trying to justify to themselves their choice of console.
GT has been behind Forza Motorsports for a few iterations now. I am glad GT is back as it will push Forza Motorsports to be better and vice versa. This is what competition in the industry is about.
One comment though about GT7. It ships on both PS4 and PS5. I would expect Forza Motorsport to leap frog a bit since it is only on XB Series devices.
From the previews of GT7 it looks good, but the rain effects were not realistic. I drive a lot in rain and I don't know how the windshields in GT stay so clean. Also when I looked at the tracks as they had a car pulling up on the track, the surface looked a bit fake. But their car models.... Wow!
They say this crap every single time a new Gran Turismo is announced, then Forza Motorsports just blows it out of the water. There's a reason they are comparing to Forza Horizon, because it's not the same type of game. It's a last gen, open world game that still looks great. But, given the new engine and extra time for Forza Motorsports, I expect that trend to continue.
@Carck Spot on. You can still be a fan of something and admit the truth about it. And for Forza fans, it's a good thing when GT steps up its game as it pushes Forza to do the same. We can all look at NBA2K as an example of what happens when it is far and away better than NBA Live. 2K hasn't really innovated much in quite awhile and it hasn't had to.
The comparison is bad because GT7 is a superb game while the horizon games are mediocre games made for people which doesn't like racing. Really hope Turn10 makes a banger out of FM8 or we can just declare the Forza series dead for good. We really deserve a good racing game on Xbox, sad that the only decent ones are really old, FM7 and PC2, both from 2017
@Zucaritas
GT7 looks good... We won't actually know until it releases though, so I think calling it "superb" is a bit premature.
Horizon games are (IMHO) great games, for people who like casual arcadey racing (as opposed to sim racers) and just want a chill fun game to play.
Hopefully the next Motorsport is good... I still want another Project Gotham though! And maybe a new Blur as well!
Comparing this to the Horizon series is ridiculous. FH5 looks amazing and is incredibly fun, but not really going after the same thing as GT or Forza.
Have preferred Forza since the first one released, haven't played 7 though. Until I played GT Sport a few months ago that is. The physics and handling feel so spot on and..... fun in that game. If GT7 nails down that feel even more and has more content (Sport seems like a really big demo, to me at least) it will be an incredible game that will probably be my go to racer for a long time.
I don't see the need for any one to get feathers ruffled over this. Comparing to an older game like Forza 7 is not fair. And there will be a hole in this genre to be filled until Forza 8 releases.
@Carck talks more about you than me that instead of saying which part of my comment you disagree with or is incorrect, you went for the easy and dumb insult.
@antstephenson I don't like Horizon games because they seem games with no soul nor content, like people who buys GTA V just to run around the open world. Look at 5, a couple of weeks after release the game really died in terms of YouTube content, you complete the main campaign and you have nothing more to do. GT7 looks awesome because is just a better GT Sport, a game with a real online community, with leagues and a good license system, I really hope that the new Forza will have a great license system because if it doesn't is dead on arrival thanks to gamepass Day1.
I remember very fondly enjoying GT on the PS1 & PS2. Never played one on the PS3 or PS4. I might be tempted to try GT7 on my PS5 (though reading above about the lack of a rewind function has me thinking that I miss that a little too much! Hopefully they have added that feature in). I've played every Forza so far except FH5 (I've just been too busy with other games to give it a go, but will get round to it eventually). For me though, FM is where it is at; I find it much more enjoyable than FH. Really looking forward to FM8, but also really hope that it doesn't release in a period of other high-quality games to that I can give it my full and early attention...
Project Gotham Racing, for the win!
I don't know how the "always online" will be received, but it's there.
Video game company says something, digital playground war ensues. Details and what you can do to protect yourself, at 11.
FH5 has poor optimisation? What version has he been playing??
In terms of Sim Racers, Both Forza and Gran Turismo have both been 'exceptional' on their platforms. Both have consistently delivered exceptional visuals for their time and an unwavering frame rate in Races - unlike many 3rd Party multi-platform racers.
Both have had their similarities and differences too. I think GTSport had the 'better' polygon count for its 'cars' but that meant there trackside details, trees etc looked a bit less impressive but both Forza and GT delivered a solid 60fps performance - when games like Project Cars, Assetto Corsa etc would often drop into the 40's.
Personally, I prefer Forza as its a lot more 'forgiving' and as such, more fun. Yes I know ideally you want to win 'cleanly' but sometimes collisions etc occur that were unavoidable and being punished, especially when its the AI fault, does ruin some of the fun for me. GT is 'too' serious where as with Forza, you won't get your 'clean' racing point bonus, but at least your not punished...
At the end of the day, BOTH are the 'best' racing sims for their respective platforms. It doesn't matter if one is 'slightly' better in some areas than the other, IF you only have a PS, then GT7 is likely to be the 'best' racing Sim you can play and if you have an Xbox, then Forza is the 'best'. IF you own both platforms, then maybe there is a 'best' option but its still 'preferences'.
Whether you prefer the visuals of one or the other, the tracks, the cars, the modes etc will come down to preference. As I said, I prefer 'Forza' because for me, it aligns more to what I want from a Racing Sim game. I want to have 'fun', dive up the inside and force my way ahead if I can sometimes and NOT get 'punished' as its NOT a real race with real people at risk...
@Zucaritas
That's cool if you don't like Horizon... Different people like different things (but liking/not liking doesn't make something definitively good/bad) 👍
I like FH5 (though I do still prefer FH4).
Hopefully GT7 and the new FM are both great (for those who like that kind of game... They'll never be able to please everyone)... Only time will tell.
Guessing FM will drop 2022 holiday season close to Starfield release.
Polyphony is a lot like 343i. They nail the mechanics, but they have a lot to prove and a not so great track record in terms of releasing polished, complete games in timely fashion in recent generations.
But how is it even a debate? We're comparing a hype presentation of an unreleased Gen 8+9 game to a 5 year old Gen 8 game and a new game in an entirely different genre? Then we get to relive the debate in 3-18 months when FM8 is announced near a new NFS?
I mean let's have the same argument over shooters: Halo Infinite is so much better than Killzone Shadowfall, but both have so much better shooting than Ratchet and Clank Rift. Also, cheesecake is objectively superior to prime rib unless the cake is freezer burnt, but both are better than Kinder Eggs.
There hasn't been a good GT game since PS3, so fingers crossed this is a return to form.
We'll have to wait until the new Forza Motorsport releases for proper comparisons in terms of graphics though.
@NEStalgia Polyphony is nothing like 343i.
Only thing even close to 343i is what's left in the field on very hot summers day after the cows move on. And even that is better compared to 343i.
Bring back Project Gotham Racing neither compare.
I will say I am slightly disappointed with the new Forza but yea the comparison other than both are racing games does not make sense.
@NEStalgia I don't want to be rude, but 343i is inadequate to work on the franchise they got handed to them. Also, due to that, Killzone Shadowfall and Halo Infinite on release day, Killzone might actually be better.
But, on an original topic, this shouldn't be a discussion and I don't know why it was made into one. Different genres and approaches, audiences. GT7 is probably gonna be a great game, just as FH5 was and future FM will be. And gamers win with all 3.
@Cikajovazmaj It's not much a secret that 343i is that bad. The fact that they announced a delay on the scheduled update on the delayed content of the delayed game is kind of a giveaway
Shadowfall.....it wasn't a bad game....it was just short and bland and clearly rushed for a console launch. Halo......definitely doesn't count as rushed...its problem is they don't seem to be in any sort of a rush at all..........
The weirdos are at it again, trying to shut down the conversation. Apparently comparing a first party AAA simulation racer with another first party AAA simulation racer doesn't make sense.
@Zucaritas I used to be that way too….like what is the point? But I have been enjoying Horizons 5, just too.ing around, listening to music and relaxing….not sure how long this will last, but for now it is a good way for me to decompress….
Yeah I bet. As an avid car enthusiast I simply love both, always have and I probably always will. Variety has always been great when it comes to racing games and I have found both series to have their strengths and weaknesses.
My take is Gran Turismo has always been the best realistic driving sim. The way the cars feel and handle, as well as the way you can modify them, it's just all very true to the real car enthusiast racing experience. As for Forza, it's always been more of a fantasy game. The physics aren't as realistic but the modifying can get so expansive to where you can do things that are essentially dream car projects, things that GT has never allowed such as drivetrain and engine swaps.
GT7 looks absolutely insane. Forza M 7 is no comparison 100%. Forza M 8 got a tall order to fulfil. Cant wait for GT7 man.
@djape that's what I also think but people's bias can't let them see that our platform clearly doesn't care about people who likes racing games
@Carck whatever men, enjoy your boring game driving around in circles doing nothing except watching all the pop in of the scenery
@Zucaritas yeah it is sad really. I agree with ya.
Not into sim side of racing, but it looks good (found the surroundings a little bland, but who looks at that right), hope the playstation players are gonna love it. I'm curious how it plays with the dualsense controller, that's gonna add some new form of immersion I reckon.
Like comparing GTA5 to Fifa! Completely different games. Forza H 5 is the best arcadie driving game currently available. GT7 will be the most amazing driving sim we ever saw. The realism is on another level!!
I've been enjoying FH5 though I'm levelling off now and will soon be done with it.
GT7 is a completely different sort of game, but I've always loved it to death and it cant come soon enough for me. Silly to compare or demand parity of feature for such different titles.
Having all options definitely gets you into the best games xD
