Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 9-10)

Playing through Sin and Punishment on N64 via the NSO app. Still getting used to the controls.. This game is extremely difficult, but very creative. I'm not ashamed to admit I'm save scumming my way through it. Interesting that it never came out in the US, but all the dialogue is fully voice acted in American English with Japanese subtitles.

I bought Nightmare of Decay on PC about a week ago, and that will very likely be my next game since apparently it's only ~3 hours long. Supposedly it's a very good faux-retro interpretation of what the original Resident Evil might have been like if it was an FPS.

Other than that, just some Fall Guys with my buddies last night, and maybe more tonight. I want to give Naraka a shot, but I'm the only one of us who actually downloaded it 😅😂

Very into Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes right now. Really loving this game. It's almost perfect for what it's trying to do. Possibly my new favorite musou.

Tried out The Anacrusis with the guys last night.. Woof. Gameplay is very tedious, and while the style is kinda neat, the graphics are flat with low detail like the game was designed in the early 360/PS3 era. I do not recommend it.

We played some more Fall Guys too which was still fun even though I'm not really getting any better at it.

Also chipping away at Blood: Fresh Supply this weekend as well. This game is very difficult, so I'm just straight up save-scumming my way through it at this point. It's probably going to take me a long time to actually finish this one.

This game was overhyped to me, and ultimately it came off as disappointing when I finally played it last year. I was expecting something incredible, and it turned out to be just something interesting. People rank this game as god-tier, when really it's like an 8/10. Just keep your expectations in check if you've never played this before and you're interested. It's interesting, but its not going to "blow your mind" or anything.

Re: Five Years Later, Game Pass Is Still Growing Alongside Xbox Game Studios

I've played 73 games on Game Pass since 2020. Would've been a little more if I didn't already purchase some of them before I got Game Pass or before the games were added to this incredible service. Some were newfound favorites I never would have bought otherwise, and some saved me from wasting my money on a game I didn't end up liking.

Best deal in gaming! ...Except maybe Epic game store giving games away for free every week. I have almost 175 games from them that I have paid literally nothing for. I mean, only ~15-20 are worth playing, but still, free is a pretty good deal.

TMNT Shredder's Revenge with the guys. Having a blast of a nostalgia trip with this!

Also Turbo Golf Racing with the guys. I am terrible at it but it's still really fun.

Little Hope. This game is laughably bad, but I'm still enjoying playing through it.

I might drop Foreclosed, actually. The style is there, the gameplay is not.

Also finishing off the Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes Demo.

Re: Feature: Our Predictions For The 2022 Xbox Games Showcase

This list isn't too much of a wet dream, but come on guys, I think we have to turn down expectations a little:

1. GoldenEye is announced, but only the online multiplayer. And its F2P. Campaign coming later.

2. Forza Horizon expansion announced, but it's for Horizon 4.

3. Gears of War collection announced, but it's just all the games that are already available - no remakes, no remasters, no new content. Also no physical version - digital bundle only.

4. Id Software announces its next game, and it is Doom.

5. Activision Blizzard has one game arrive on Game Pass, and it's Skylanders. The first one.

6. Forza Motorsport will not surprise us with a 2024 release date, and then eventually get delayed to 2025.

7. Compulsion Games' narrative third person title will appear... at Summer Games Fest, because MS sold them off to Embracer Group.

8. Hellblade 2 will finally get a proper launch window: Holiday 2024. It will be 5-6 hours in length.

Mostly Life is Strange: True Colors, sprinkled with a few levels each in Blood: Fresh Supply and Boneworks.

I bought a link cable for VR games, just to see how it compares to Air Link (I'm using my Quest 2 to play PCVR games) and it's a bit more stable, sure, but I hated the experience. Made me reconsider if PSVR2 will be worth it. I'm so used to cordless VR that I'm not sure I can readjust to being tethered (unless the game is meant to be a sit down kind of experience). To me, if you can stand and walk around, but you're not standing or walking around, then why are you even bothering to play a VR game?

Just started Blood: Fresh Supply. It's fairly difficult almost immediately 😅

I might also start Life is Strange: True Colors and flip back and forth between the two games when I get tired of reloading my saves over and over in Blood.

Edit: I started Tunic instead of LiS, and this game is so good! It might now be my new favorite Zelda-like, and I've played quite a few. I can't praise it enough.

I'm just over halfway through Alien: Isolation and getting tired of it. It's not that interesting in general, and it can be frustrating since the xenomorph will literally just pop up out of nowhere and kill you sometimes. Sometimes it's my fault, and other times the game just decides it's time for me to die and start over at the last checkpoint. All the weapons and gadgets are unnecessary (and practically useless anyway), and the stealth sections are not even close to as exciting as something like Dishonored.

I'm also playing Trek to Yomi and nearing the end. The game looks great in certain ways - the design of the world is stunning - but the framerate is all over the place. Feels like it ranges from 60-20fps, which is kindof baffling considering what's actually being rendered on screen at any given time. The full commitment to black and white also just gets boring after a while. It would have been better if there were at least pops of color now and again, like if blood was red or flames were orange or something. People are saying the combat is tedious, and I agree with that to a certain extent, but more than being repetitive and boring, I find it to be inconsistent and unresponsive. Maybe I just need to "get good" or whatever, but I'm not sure that's the root issue.

I'll probably drag myself through both of these games to completion but I'm considering starting another game just so I can play something a little more fun for me. Maybe I'll jump back into Vestaria Saga instead, but I'm in more of a mood for action.. I should probably just go out and do something in real life instead hahaha 😅

Re: Soapbox: Thief Deserves Another Reboot On Xbox Series X|S

everynowandben

I would love love love another Thief game. The ideas in the article would definitely be cool. It'd be great if they stayed away from the "powers" or whatever you want to call them in Dishonored, like teleporting, and Thief was kept a little more grounded in the gameplay department. Maybe Garrett could get more interesting equipment to help him traverse/sneak in more non-conventional ways. Deep crafting system? Oh, maybe crafting could be super open ended somehow and you could make whatever you can imagine, like a water arrow with a time-bomb attached to it or something. It might be neat to see a robust physics engine that puzzles could be built around too. One thing for sure: A light/dark system based on ray-traced shadows would be a must.
