Capcom has announced that the Gold Edition of Resident Evil Village will be arriving on October 28th, 2022, introducing a variety of new DLC features including a new campaign and a third-person mode for the main story!
You can see some clips of the third-person mode in the new trailer below, which should provide a great excuse for everyone to dive back into Village later this year and try it out from a new perspective.
"The Highly-Anticipated Third Person Mode is Here! You can now play the story mode from the third-person perspective. In this mode, players have an over-the-shoulder viewpoint and can see Ethan in action. This new vantage point provides a fresh experience for both new players and veterans alike to experience Ethan's terrifying journey."
Meanwhile, the new story content is called Shadows of Rose and will continue the story of Ethan's daughter Rosemary, and you can again take a look at some gameplay of this in the new reveal trailer. Here's a brief:
"16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village... Rosemary Winters, Ethan's beloved daughter, has grown up and is now struggling with terrifying powers. In search of a way to break free from her curse, Rose enters the consciousness of the Megamycete. Rose's journey takes her to a mysterious realm where memories of the past return to create a warped and twisted world of nightmares."
Other additions this October include The Mercenaries Additional Orders introducing new playable characters and stages, and the heavily delayed Resident Evil Re:Verse will finally be launching as well.
"Chris Redfield, Karl Heisenberg, and Alcina Dimitrescu are now joining The Mercenaries as playable characters. New stages have also been added to provide additional breadth and versatility."
The Gold Edition of Resident Evil Village will be available to pre-order at a later date, or if you just want the DLC without the base game, it'll be packaged together as the "Winters' Expansion" when it arrives this October as well.

So you don't have to buy the gold edition to get these features? Will these features be applied to the standard version of the game?
Man 3rd person mode added, That's a huge W for RE fans..
@Snake_V5 the standard edition Won't have the 3rd person mode it's part of the dlc
@notoriousmakavel it's paid dlc , they never said it was going to be free
Yeah, it seems that Capcom heard us! Now they should add the third-person mode to VII as well.
@Banjo- this is crazy, you and I were just talking about how we were hoping the new game would give us options to chose between either 1st or 3rd person. It wasn’t the new one but it’s one we got. This wasn’t my favorite RE, but I’ll be going through it again in 3rd person and I’m looking forward to it!
@EvilSilentFrame Yep, we were talking exactly about this 😊. Hopefully it's included in future games as well!
I actually like the 1st person perspective of 7 and 8 - feels more immersive to me - but 3rd person is cool too. Good to have options.
Third person mode sounds so epic! I can’t wait for this. RE: Village was one of my favorite games of last year.
Great, I liked RE4 but didn't try 7 because I don't like first person perspective games, so looking forward to the 3rd person option
I skipped Village because I’m not a fan of first person games. Looking forward to getting it in October with the third person mode!
@notoriousmakavel forgot about that lol but this is definitely paid because it says you can pre order it soon
@everynowandben Agree! 7 and 8 are definitely my favorite games in the series (and are two of my absolute favorite games ever) and that’s largely because it’s first person and the first person is done so well. I know it was a huge change for the series, but change can be good! I’ll miss the fps era of RE. Fully expecting continued great things from the DLC though!
I will replay it when it gets the third person update.
Not a big RE fan but I really enjoyed Village!
I love first person games, it's a great perspective when you want the audience to embody the character. Mostly action and silent protagonists.
Third person though, is better when you have a protag that you want the audience to connect to, and feel for. I feel like horror games benefit greatly from it.
I always prefer third person action games so this is great news. Now, don't get me wrong I did love Resi 7, but that was because I played it VR, it was terrifying! A third person mode for 7 would be great for standard TV play though.
Im up for this and usually prefer 3rd person. Seems right for a resi game.
Looking forward to this releasing..
I was concerned about the change to first person when it happened for RE 7 but I ended up liking it, however, third person is definitely where the series belongs. Happy to see this added to Village, would be cool if Capcom could patch it into 7 at some point as well but understand if it doesn't happen as that game is a bit older now.
@Gamer83 Yep but 2, 3 and 4 are older and they remade them. It would be easy to add a third-person mode to VII. Likely, they added it to VIII because of the unofficial mod, just like they remade 2 because of the fan-made remake.
@somnambulance Hopefully, future games will have both options, third-person and first-person.
@lolwhatno
It's part of the Gold Edition so people can buy the Gold Edition or the Gold Edition upgrade which is called Winters' Expansion, including:
・Online game Resident Evil Re: Verse is included in all the editions.

@lolwhatno No problem. What is free on PS5 is the current-gen upgrade, which is also free on Series X/S. The Gold Edition/Winters' Expansion will be paid on PS5 as well.
@Banjo- That’s exactly what I want. I know most RE fans want 3rd person, but imagine if first person RE2 and 3 was announced. There’s few gaming announcements I’d like more!
@somnambulance Yep, VIII is the first one to make us all happy and I hope that the others follow. I don't like first-person in Resident Evil but I like that both options are included so players can choose their favourite or even play both modes.
