Tomb Raider Remake

Embracer Group's acquisition of Square Enix's western studios is the latest merger to be underway in gaming. But, what will come of the purchase for fans of Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and more? Quite a lot, if the plans outlined here come to fruition.

In Embracer's latest earnings report, the company touched on its acquisition and what players can expect from some of the IP it has picked up. Future plans won't just revolve around sequels, says Embracer.

After the end of the quarter, we further strengthened our development capabilities and IP-portfolio by entering into an agreement to acquire Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief and Legacy of Kain and other IPs. The announcement got an overwhelming and positive response. We see a great potential, not only in sequels, but also in remakes, remasters, spinoffs as well as transmedia projects across the Group. We expect the transaction to close in the July-September period.

So, we could see some legacy games from these newly acquired series' brought back, which would be welcomed by us! Don't get us wrong, we do want to see fresh sequels and new IP, but classic Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Thief games modernised? Count us in!

We don't know about specific plans just yet, but expect some of these projects to be a ways off. The transaction itself won't conclude until at least July, before the new owner can begin to dictate what comes from these newly acquired studios.
