Topic: Question about save states on Xbox Series X

Hi there friends,

maybe this is a silly question, but bear with me for a moment.

I wanted to know if there is a way to back up the save states from my Xbox Series X. To have my saves as of now, in some place, because I am certain (at least I think so) that when you launch a game, the saves are backed up on the cloud, linked to your Xbox account. Or maybe there is a way to play those games with another account or something like it, as a way to start those games from scratch. I'm open to all suggestions that you may have.

I want to do this because last year I played Hellblade II with my Mom (who loved videogames and knew how much I loved those games). My mom passed away on December 2024, so I wanted to replay Hellblade I & II to find some comfort, but I don't want to lose my old saves. I don't want to do this only by the in-game menu (like statintg a new game or somethinglike it), but doing a full back up of my previous save states. I hope I've made sense, right now I'm not on my best moments, so I apologize for being incoherent or ignorant of these technical issues.

I know, maybe is something silly, but I'm not ready to let those save states go as playing Hellblade II with my Mom was something very special to me. Thank you all in advance.

@HarmanSmith First of all, my sincere condolences, my Xbox friend. I don't know if this will help you, but this is what I know. Generally, the only save files you can keep indefinitely are manual saves and the most recent automatic saves. Every time the Xbox connects to the internet, it will update the cloud saves. It will only warn you if saving or backing up means that you will lose access to more recent save files on the console or cloud. Some games let you have several profiles inside the game. Otherwise, the games force you to delete your current save file to start a new game. In this case, you can log in as another user to start a new game without losing the original save files. 🤗

@HarmanSmith The only thing I can think of is create another profile on your Series X and start a new game on that new profile. The only thing achievements will be tied to that profile but at least you'd be able to keep your old save file on your account.

@Banjo- thank you so much my friend. I really appreciate that.

So what you and @Tasuki say is that I can log in with another profile? And I will able to play games that I bought with my original account? Without using another console of something like it?

@HarmanSmith So, if you make an account and set it to child account you will be able to access your library. You won't even have to sign up for Gamepass or anything with the new account. For example, I have the main account on my Xbox and my son has a child account under mine. He's able to access all of my games even Gamepass.games like Black Ops 6. While he uses his profile, he's able to have his own save file currently we are both playing Avowed and he has his game which he's alot farther then me in and I have mine.

It doesn't even need to be a child account - all users on your 'Home' Xbox can play all your games.
