Re: Phil Spencer Explains Why 'This Is An Xbox' Will Be Beneficial To Console Owners

@TeiGekiLord yea MS aren’t saints but you’re missing my point. They are doing that themselves and earning the money themselves. The revenue from Xbox ports on Playstation is basically Xbox handing Playstation funding to screw over Xbox. It’s a different thing. I’m saying they should stop encouraging that.

Playstation are scummy but their own success is their own success.

I don’t have an issue with the play anywhere marketing. I think it’s actually good. I don’t even have an issue with porting to Nintendo.

My issue is specifically with Playstation and here is why:

Phil Spencer already acknowledged that Playstation would use revenue from games on their system, such as Sea of Thieves or Indiana Jones, to fund more timed and permanent exclusives.

It’s as simple as that.

Making games available to more people isn’t spitting on Xbox fans. But knowing that Playstation will do the above, and then continuing to give them ports to help fund that, is pretty disrespectful.

If Halo goes to Playstation and sells really well. What do you think PlayStation is going to do with that money?

@GeeEssEff I actually don’t think it’s a silly take. I think we are at a point now where Xbox and Playstation could literally announce they are doing… anything. By that I mean that everything has become so unpredictable. What crazy thing will they do next? (Nintendo has always been crazy and unpredictable).

This extends to how they perceive success currently so I couldn’t tell you if they are genuinely happy with CODs success or not. And because of Gamepass; I don’t think even Microsoft really knows at this point. COD being in Gamepass day one obviously gives you immediate sales figures to report etc as well but the long term benefits of it coming to the subscription service, along with the “teaching” to the consumer that all of them will go to GP going forward, will take a while to reveal themselves. Think it’s still a long game.

Re: Talking Point: Does Xbox's 'New Dawn' For Halo Mean The Series Will Come To PS5?

Hopefully not. And hopefully people will actually call it out instead of rolling over for it if it does happen. Make ABK games multiplat for the revenue, and Zenimax games multiplat if you have to. But XGS games should be exclusive. Especially Halo, Gears and Forza (and Fable).

But hey we know that it’s going in a different direction. Industry led by Geoff Keighley letting it happen and celebrating it.

@FraserG seems off topic but it genuinely isn’t… have you ever considered writing about Geoff Keighley’s bias towards Playstation? I genuinely wish he would get called out for it. His damage control over this Pro reveal has already been above and beyond. Having someone with that much power in controlling what we see and hear at these “events” is so damaging for Xbox.

Square Enix is actually releasing Visions of Mana and Dragon Quest III as play anywhere which is awesome support. I want more companies to do that. I can play on my Series X and then move to my Legion Go. All with 1 digital copy.

Also remember SE can’t put their games on Gamepass (which is always an attractive option if sales have dried up) if the games aren’t on the system in the first place.

Will be glad if they improve their Xbox support for sure.

@Fenbops I think people forget even Sony answers to its shareholders. If that is deemed the way to make money then it will happen. But Xbox has really screwed itself. Weirdly though I feel better about the official announcement than I do all the “insiders” spreading the news themselves.

It’s all such a shame and it’s not going to lead anywhere good for the industry in my opinion. Despite the media trying desperately to tell me it is.

Re: Former Xbox Exec Defends Phil Spencer's Recent Decisions As Head Of Xbox

K1LLEGAL

I guess you have to see it like:

In 2020 Sony paid for 1 year timed exclusivity for Deathloop and Ghostwire (and potentially Starfield if they had more time).

But now it’s Xbox getting games like Starfield, Hi-Fi Rush and Indiana Jones first.

Still a better position to be in. But yea I don’t agree with the decisions at all. Microsoft threw in Xbox’s towel for them.

I actually think more people (especially those with larger platforms) should have pushed back on it.
