@OldGamer999 Sure I get that, its ultimately personal preference. To me Avowed, Hellblade and Indiana Jones don’t need to look good, they just need to be fun and run well. I wish less of the “triple A” budget was spent on the photorealism and more on the game itself.
Hellblade for example looks absolutely incredible visually but it is meaningless if it’s not fun. That is where GOWR lost me too.
Hilarious to me that Avowed got knocked for its visuals when people try and hype of Rise of Ronin.
But Indiana Jones, man the Wolfenstein games are so much fun and this looks like a licensed version of those 🔥.
But it’s upto you what you play and get excited for of course. 👍
@Grumblevolcano they are two different “events”. The Developer_Direct showed what was coming in 2024 and if it does that each year I think that is enough. Xbox’s first party 2024 line-up starts in May, I guess, so not sure what else they should have shown? Plus Xbox seems to attend or put on more events throughout the year than Playstation. They already mentioned a World’s Edge event and an ABK event at some point.
@OldGamer999 Can I ask what left you limp about the Xbox direct? They said upfront what they were showing, they showed more than that, and all the showings were strong at the very least. Genuinely curious…
The Developer_Direct is going to keep disappointing if people are expecting summer showcase levels of reveals.
For the FF Rebirth showcase, that can’t really disappoint anyone unless they are expecting anything other than FF Rebirth, which they shouldn’t.
@Fenbops i’m really enjoying it as a co-op experience with a friend. I think thats where it shines. Less mileage in single player in my opinion. But it is good and some of the things going on, you wonder why they aren’t in Pokemon.
Easily got over a hundred in total but all due to the 360. Went mostly digital with Xbox One and have well over 700 owned games (i think) digitally on Xbox.
That said it does suck if they go fully digital because they will lose their presence on the high street completely. Also I like being able to put a 360 disc into my Series X if I like. But wouldn’t be able to going forward.
So I totally expected the admin side to get affected due to overlap. But i’m surprised by this news on the developer front. Machinegames just opened up a new studio. It felt like amongst the multiple companies laying off staff, perhaps Microsoft could be the exception and be hiring, or at least not letting people go. Shame.
@OrfeasDourvas I think there will be an ABK specific presentation before the June showcase.
But yea once ABK are fully integrated and we get into the groove a bit, I can see these Developer_Directs becoming more frequent. Even if only twice a year.
Funny if they did a Developer_Direct on ABK and each of the 4 studios they went to was just working on COD. 😅 and then a surprise 5th studio is also working on COD.
I think if you want 3rd person you have Tomb Raider or Uncharted. This is doing its own thing and if its anywhere near as fun as Wolfenstein we are in for a treat. It’s edged out Avowed as the one i’m most excited for now.
Since they have so many studios now I would love to see them do a 1 or 2 week game jam where each studio makes a small game based on an Xbox IP. Can be anything. And if something ends up catching on then it could get a budget behind it. Double Fine knows how to do these
Even if nothing gets a full dev it would still be a fun experiment. Could end up with a Halo puzzle game, Banjo metroidvania etc.
It is kind of self-fulfilling at this point though where if you have an Xbox there is no point building up a physical library because a lot of games skip physical.
Also I have only ever bought a Limited Run game for Switch as it feels like the only place it is worth something.
But yea it does suck for Xbox. For physical releases they are the worst. But that might be the only area where they are behind the competition in my opinion (and yea, console sales).
Gears Tactics only came out in 2020 and it was awesome. Hivebusters was also end of 2020. I do think we will see this at the summer showcase though; along with ID’s game.
I think 5 was better than 4 but just doesn’t need the open world. Yet I feel like we will get it regardless… still will be awesome though.
@rustyduck Forza Motorsport didn’t even have a date by the end of the Developer_Direct last year; and still hit October. So I wouldn’t worry so much necessarily; but I wonder if they will all stack in the 2nd half of the year.
I think these days Xbox want to be extra sure before giving a date due to all the delays in the past (Starfield, Redfall, Halo Infinite).
Heard it might be cel-shaded, or at least not aiming for photorealism? Not bothered myself as gameplay is king; plus I love a cel-shaded game. But interesting if true! Man Xbox has an incredible year lined up. Kinda wish they would stop showing Hellblade. But Avowed and Indiana Jones, i’m so excited for.
I do think they should use these are just games for the current year. Great to see that might be the case.
The trial I believe is the entire base game and perhaps Heavensward (first expansion) now. It has changed a few times.
I have this on Steam and PS5 but will be all in on Xbox and perhaps will finally push through Heavensward and continue to the other expansions. They are just so long!
Long term benefits: hopefully this leads to a sequel!
But also it would be one of the important games in Xbox’s exclusive library they are trying to build. Interested to see what people here think about it. I get that sales are maybe not mindblowing for Hi-Fi Rush; but I think that should be the hit Xbox takes as it builds up to its consoles being “unmissable”.
I also think when you look back on consoles in the future; you think about their exclusives (for the most part). So Xbox should be trying to leave their mark with the Series X|S library.
I’m torn on it. Just depends on the situation. If it means getting a sequel where we wouldn’t have otherwise then sure!
@StonyKL when the games are on sale on Xbox, they are also as cheap as they are in the Playstation tweet. It’s just saying you can play them on Gamepass. If you are already subbed you can play them without spending any more money. The whole saga. Maybe you have your sub for a year or two; so why not check out these games as part of your sub instead of spending another £25. It’s a simple lighthearted post and advertises an option people have.
You can even play them even if you don’t own a PS5 or Series S|X.
The shadow drop sounds like wishful thinking. But I suppose Xbox have set the precedent now; so if there isn’t a “surprise” of some sort then people will claim disappointment.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the direct itself returns though; regardless of a shadow drop or not.
This is 100% horrible for the staff who had info leaked. Not acceptable.
The “gaming” leak also shows Insomniac as a Marvel factory which sucks for their future too. But it was obvious as soon as Spiderman sold so much on PS4. Also (no spoilers but…) 18 seconds in to the Wolverine footage he is…. what a surprise rock climbing up a vertical surface just like Spiderman, God of War, Uncharted, Horizon etc etc. Do people actually find that fun? I really don’t.
The X-men deal shows Sony will never change in that regard. Xbox has to explain itself everytime it makes something exclusive but Playstation just does what it wants. Such a stupid bias this industry has.
I had this issue start with Dead Space at the beginning of November.
However for what it’s worth; it never deleted anything. And neither did Like A Dragon Gaiden that I was playing at the same time. I think it’s just Baldur’s Gate that is actually deleting the saves. I’m not worried about any other game as I think it’s a specific issue with BG3. Don’t get me wrong it’s Xbox’s issue but when combined with BG3; everything goes kaput.
For me to fix the issue I had to click “delete all local saves” and then now each game I start just redownloads my save from the cloud and i’m good to go. Everything is good now. But still scared to continue BG3. But I can’t help playing it. Help.
@themightyant Yea it’s crazy. I got Dead Space, Wild Hearts, Immortals of Aveum for £8/£9 each. Already had Mass Effect but £5.99 is insane. We have no idea how long EA Play is a part of Gamepass so yea. Will check out Lost in Random. And seeing if any of these Need for Speeds are worth it.
It always works for me. I think some people expect it to work with online games or games where you are connected to servers; which obviously isn’t the case. But for single-player games it’s awesome. Supposedly it bugs some achievements though so that’s something to look out for.
1. Hi-Fi Rush
2. Starfield
3. Baldur’s Gate
4. Like A Dragon Gaiden
5. Wo Long Fallen Dynasty
Baldur’s Gate is awesome but the issues are holding me back from playing it more currently. I loaded a save and it was just a ghost cam flying through the floor. And im stressed about losing my save. Plus only 6-7 hours in so couldn’t give it 1st or 2nd yet. I’d say my 3 and 4 are interchangeable. And between Hi-Fi Rush and Starfield I gave HFR the nod because it was the bigger surprise.
@HonestHick I have said this before but I really believe it is Microsoft themselves that needed to take the first step. Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey were an incredible start but then… nothing besides a couple of third party exclusives at the time (Infinite Undiscovery and the timed exclusivity of Eternal Sonata, Star Ocean TLH and Tales of Vesperia etc).
Xbox needed to have continued development of these games from the 2007 release of Blue Dragon to now and eaten the cost and eventually it would have snowballed into a first party “Japanese” style lineup that would have been hard to ignore.
I hope the rumours of Tango Gameworks doing a JRPG are true.
Out of everyone involved; I wasn’t expecting to hear from Disney first.
Perhaps it’s internal then. Maybe “Xbox” want it exclusive; but Arkane (also still Xbox but you know what I mean) is like if COD can be multiplat why can’t we?
@ATaco maybe. Shut the studios, get rid of the costs, but keep all the IPs (Timesplitters, Saint’s Row). Then license them out and get that passive income.
Ok I have no idea what i’m talking about but it sounds possible!
@FraserG Yea you’ve scared me now. I’m excited to continue but very wary now. What if we save every 15 minutes in a new slot, does it delete them all? Or just the slot you try and save in?
I had this save issue start with Dead Space when I saved for the 90th time (no exaggeration - I have issues) and the Xbox wouldn’t let me save anymore (even though the game allowed it) despite making lots of space available. This crossed over into Like a Dragon Gaiden. However deleting all local saves fixed the issue and it hasn’t come back luckily. Hopefully that works for most, if not all people. But of course, those games just stopped you from saving - it sounds like Baldur’s Gate actually deletes the save!
I’m 5 hours in but really don’t want that to happen.

@MrMagic also available on Gamepass and has been for a year of everyone’s lives so far!
Nice to see an anniversary patch but I didn’t bother too much with the customisation in the game. Fingers crossed we get a sequel of some sort.
I would love to know what Tango’s main project is at the moment. Sequel to Hi-Fi Rush? A horror game? There were rumours of them working on a JRPG.
Re: Xbox's Physical Games Departments Reportedly Affected By Microsoft Layoffs
Xbox has already been terrible in this area so not sure how it would get worse but ok. I’m digital with Xbox anyway but still.

@OldGamer999 hopefully once Hellblade 2 is out, they can get to work on a new IP. Perhaps they have already started.
Re: Hellblade 2 Will Be A Digital-Only, Cheaper Release On Xbox And PC
I do think it should have a physical. But in regards to the length, if that is the length of the story they want to tell why pad it out?
They have poured years of work into this tighter experience. Hopefully the quality is all the better because of it.
There are plenty of moments in story-based games where I just roll my eyes because it’s unnecessary padding.
Re: Roundup: Here's What Was Revealed At The Xbox Developer Direct 2024
So glad Indy is first person. It’s Machine Games’ art. And I like Uncharted but i don’t need to spend hours of my life rock climbing again.
