Wow, this is a surprise! After more than three years since its tongue-in-cheek announcement trailer, The Outer Worlds 2 has resurfaced, and it's coming to Xbox Game Pass much sooner than we anticipated.
You'll be playing this spacefaring sequel on Xbox next year, as Obsidian doesn't seem to be slowing down with its conveyor belt of first-party releases. We don't know when The Outer Worlds 2 is coming beyond just '2025', but the fact that this game is so close is great news all round.
"The Outer Worlds 2 is the sequel to the award-winning first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment. Get ready for an action-packed adventure in a new colony with an even newer crew and the newest graphics! Coming in 2025."
Looking forward to this one, Game Pass fans? Talk to us about TOW2 down below!

Obsidian is doing Starfield better than Bethesda.
As much as I'm looking forward to Avowed, The Outer Worlds is the true spiritual successor to Obsidian's best work. They made the right call to namedrop KOTOR, Neverwinter Nights and New Vegas in the trailer
Am I wrong or this is the first game from Xbox Game Studios that's coming day 1 on PS5? I personally find this pretty cool.
@RamiBalek Technically, I think CoD Black Ops 6 was the first Xbox first party game to go to PS5 Day One.
@awp69 You're right, how could I forget about this one? 😅
The Outer Worlds was my GOTY 2019, and Game of the Decade 2010-2019, so I'm hyped for this.
@awp69 @RamiBalek I think the honor goes to Psychonauts 2 - well..it wasn't native PS5, but it did have PS5 features via enhancements to the PS4 version when running in backwards compatibility.
I cannot wait for this. The first game was awesome. Speaking of, I need to do a replay and actually tackle the DLC since I’ve yet to play it.
Okay I know Avowed was delayed (seemingly for no technical reason, just because of a busy schedule), so they were planned to be in different years but it's still wild to me that after hearing nothing on the Outer Worlds 2 it's coming next year. I was expecting minimum 2026. The last trailer literally said: "we've done no work except put a 2 in the title" 😂. There's a chance it gets delayed till 2026 like Avowed, but either way I'll looking forward to when it launches.
(and if you haven't read the Xbox wire post you really should. They have a lot of fun with it 🤣).
2 games from obsidian in 1 year. Interestingly avowed is exclusive and outer worlds 2 seemingly coming to ps5 day 1. I still dont understand their logic. The popular guess was its new IP thats exclusive, and games that were multiplat (cod, doom, outer worlds 1) are not but we have Indy case though.
I guess we just accept the case-by-case basis and try to not be surprised with anything
@Millionski I think currently MS are testing which way brings the most money/subs.
Is it better to delay ps5 for 6month to boost GP sales, or is it better to sell ps5 day 1?
Which makes sense and fair thing to try
What an awesome trailer, and the voice over info is brilliant too.
I can't wait to play this, loved the first game...then again I just love Obsidian's games ( FNV, Pentiment, Grounded) 😁.

Yep, pretty much. I've yet to play a game where my enjoyment of it was diminished just because it got released on other platforms.
That’s was a great trailer and made me smile.
Looking forward to this one on GPU.
Damn! I’m gonna be playing outer worlds 1 (just got the expansion pass), avowed, and outer worlds 2 in 2025. That’s a lot of obsidian, and I’m in!
Trailer sure didn’t highlight what makes obsidian games great tho. Licensed music ew; this isn’t borderlands.
Xbox’s 2025 lineup is currently:
Avowed
South of Midnight
Doom: The Dark Ages
Fable
The Outer Worlds 2
Call of Duty 2025
That is insane. Fable is getting bumped to 2026 isn’t it?
Welp, it's almost time to start playing the first one. I'm still playing through Banjo-Kazooie (at the quiz part so I guess I'm pretty far along, this is my first time getting to that point in the game) and I still need to beat Witcher 3!
@K1LLEGAL honestly, this looks like the year Xbox finally completes the turn around. Xbox is making up for years of having a barren wasteland of a release schedule perhaps. Something I kept thinking at The Game Awards was, “What will I be playing in 2025?” Witcher, Ueda’s game, and Intergalactic were my favorite announcements, but I didn’t see 2025 tacked onto them. The answer I came back to is, “2025 is finally the year that I’ll be playing Gamepass.”
@GamingFan4Lyf @awp69 @RamiBalek Minecraft Dungeons beat all those to the punch launching simultaneously on Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC. But we're probably all forgetting something else!
@themightyant Ah, nice find! I forgot about Minecraft Dungeons...I mean, I don't follow Minecraft one bit - except when I downloaded it after I got my new gaming PC so I could see how it ran with Path Tracing - so, it's certainly not something that would have come to mind right away.
Looking at the release history of Xbox Game Studios games and the history of Mojang, it's possible that Minecraft Vita Edition was the first "Xbox game" to come to PlayStation.
Microsoft announced its agreement to buy Mojang in September 2014, and Minecraft Vita Edition was release in October 2014.
It's a stretch as I bet the ink probably didn't even dry by then.
However, in November 2016, the Minecraft Bedrock Edition is the next instance where PlayStation is mentioned in the Xbox Game Studios list of games with its release across various platforms.
So..Minecraft was the gateway to multi-platform for Microsoft.
@GamingFan4Lyf To be fair Minecraft is the single biggest selling game of all time at over 300 million units! While it is a unicorn, I wouldn't expect other games to do even 10% of that, it does show what is possible if you release on everything from Raspberry Pi to mobile to PC and console.
@themightyant Oh, I am not bashing Minecraft one bit. It's huge and keeping it multiplatform just made sense. It's just not my thing.
@K1LLEGAL It’s sad that after a decade trying to get this momentum they have just now decided to launch most if not all their games on competing platforms, and even worse, that Xbox still got noticeably less game announcements last night, they’re just porting everything over while getting less games from third-parties.
This made me laugh out loud. Looking forward to it
I find it crazy Microsoft have been working for years to make games that would sell their console and game pass and give up on that model just before their efforts came to fruition.
we will never know if these games would have sold more consoles
they should put them onxbox/gamepass for 6 months or a year before putting them on other platforms
Its on the news letter i got today. Its got be close in 25
@Kraven
I really enjoyed the first dlc, has an interesting story that ties up a loose thread from the main game. The second one was a bit disappointing, the murder mystery aspect felt a bit underbaked to me....
