Former Halo developer Bungie has today provided an update on its new extraction shooter Marathon, which was officially announced in 2023.
In today's update, game director Joe Ziegler explained how it's still a little bit early to show the game as one piece, but everything in terms of the development is apparently on track.
As part of this, Bungie did show a sneak peek of some artwork. This included a runner character codenamed 'Thief' and another runner codenamed 'Stealth'. Their names supposedly reflect how they'll operate out in the field.
More about Marhton is scheduled to be revealed in the "midst" of 2025, with plans to also expand the playtest wider and wider - adding a significant amount of players each time. And once again, this game is still on track for an Xbox release, with Bungie encouraging fans to wish list the title on this platform.
Have you been following Bungie's upcoming release? Let us know in the comments.

I am not sure what to think of this game. Haven’t seen enough to say if it’s for me or not. But i am leaning more on the prove it to me why i should be interested more than i am interested. Bungie needs this to be a hit tho. They can’t have a flop here or they are in big trouble as in an angry Sony is going to make you work on porting remasters of PS4 games to PS5.
I wouldn’t buy a Sony owned game on Xbox, they might suddenly decide Bungie games are now exclusive and pull the plug from Xbox specifically.
Too vague. Dunno

Have Bungie forgotten who their overlords are these days....things can change very quickly 😉.
@IOI id suspect they'd have to deal with the FTC if they stopped bringing at least future Destiny & Marathon titles to Xbox. As they did investigate the acquisition. I also suspect that part of the independent deal was to appease the regulators. I don't think Sony expected them to be so aggressive since the ABK deal. Or they'd brought Marathon into house like they have a few teams.
@IOI that would be wild if you mean they just shut the Xbox servers down just to make it exclusive after all.
I actually think it’s a good idea to support this on Xbox if you want to encourage more multiplayer Playstation games on Xbox like Helldivers.
@K1LLEGAL exactly. I think Arrowheads recent outburst about putting pressure on Sony to port Helldivers 2 to Xbox is a case of why are we not allowed to but Bungie is. Like Bethesda grumbling when Microsoft said ABK titles will still be multiplatform. Support Marathon, Destiny 2 & even MLB & if their is money to be made on Xbox. Who knows!!!
Wishlist? Haha no. Not with your track record.
No thanks bungie I have something here for you to wishlist (grabbing my crouch)
Another Concord?...Most probably.
It sounds like sony is set to release their first game willingly on xbox.
I have no interest in an extraction shooter. Incidentally, I also no longer have interest in Destiny 2. The seasonal content is currently the worst it's ever been; not that I can currently play for more than half an hour without BattlEye throwing a wobbly for no reason and booting me back to the title screen.
Sony may well relent with their Live Service games knowing that they need to get as MANY players into the game at or near launch to stand a chance of their Live Service becoming established and making money.
Concord , if F2P and on 'every' platform may have worked better than trying to sell on PS/PC to make their money back. It could have been the 'next' Overwatch with its eSports community helping to bring newcomers in who will buy Season Passes, Cosmetics etc.
I have zero interest in this - especially if it costs money without a great Single Player campaign and/or other modes too. At least CoD caters to Single, Co-op and Competitive gamers with its Campaign, PVE and PVP modes.
As someone who played and loved the original Marathon Trilogy back in the day…I will never touch this in-name-only thing.
Bungie abandoned Halo, made Destiny a PS4 exclusive on Xbox in Japan, and was then acquired by Sony.
Please tell us why we should buy it.
The trailer was more style than substance. I'll wait for the playtest amd see what the players think. If I can get into the playtest for free I'll try it. But just preo ordering and wishlisting worhout knowing anything isn't on my bingo card
After Concord's Developer being shut down, I doubt Bungie is going to have any freedom to be themselves with this game.
