You'd think that a lighthearted joke between friends wouldn't require an explanation, but that wasn't the case here! Xbox's social media manager felt forced to explain himself after making a viral PS5 Pro joke this past Friday.
The joke was a response to The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley, who revealed that he'd acquired a 30th Anniversary Edition of the PS5 Pro. In response, the Xbox employee used the "This is an Xbox" marketing slogan to describe the console - which admittedly is kind of the case now that the likes of Sea Of Thieves and Hi-Fi RUSH are on there!
Obviously there wasn't any harm meant with this joke, but it still prompted a reply soon after it was posted:
"Some of y’all take Twitter too seriously. I’m just joking with Geoff."
From what we can see, the majority of commenters took the joke with good humour and simply moved on. Obviously there was criticism as well though - most of which centred around a dislike of the whole "This is an Xbox" campaign.
Anyway, it goes without saying that we don't encourage hassling any Xbox employees on social media, even if they make a joke that you might not be a massive fan of! Social media can be a bit of a nightmare at times, huh?

Outrageous behaviour from an Xbox employee. Boycott this company. 🙄
Humor is a dangerous game these days.
It's sad when I have to put "NOTE: joke" if I ever make a joke about something some may disagree with just to get my point across that I am just being silly before having my head ripped off.
I like this kind of stuff nothing wrong with it at all.
But yeah the amount of careful treading that has to be done on social media is crazy
The world is gradually becoming less fun.
Ah, I see the mistake that was made. This was posted on Twitter.
It's like someone dropped the world and glued if back together wrong, you can't even have a laugh now without some keyboard warrior throwing a fake outrage tantrum
Some times you can't just say anything you want on social media and you should show some respect for your job... He could live without making thet joke imo...
Just being on twitter is offensive...
It’s a light hearted jab to be sure, but I can’t decide who’s on the receiving end. PlayStation because their newly crowned ‘world’s most powerful console’ is an Xbox in disguise, playing Xbox games? Or Xbox, because the brand identity has disintegrated to such a degree that their games are essentially homeless, seeking shelter in the YMCA known as the PS5?
Whilst people are overreacting to the joke; I do think it sucks that someone at Xbox thinks they are joking around with Geoff Keighley in particular. That guy laughs at Xbox, not with them. But Xbox keeps going back for more.
@Balaam_ glass half empty or glass half full 😁 half full - Sony are writing Microsoft checks every month for every sale on their platform. Half empty - PlayStation are getting Xbox’s first party catalogue while Microsoft get nothing in return.
It’s not funny, my daft son back from university stuck a “This is an Xbox” label on by Bosch Kettle.
Dammed if I could get a picture out of it and then it over heated and spat boiling water at me.
I shall call Xbox customer service about this.
The only thing funny about it is that it’s becoming true.
And this is why social platforms like Twitter, Facebook etc are just bad and a waste of time. Every idiot thinks and uses it as there own social platform to say whatever they want and make a big deal out of something that isn't. Lighten up people it was a joke.
As an xbox player i find it funny. What is not funny is 30-40 old men arguing about the plastic boxes and having heart attacks all the time about silly jokes
But it's true....a PlayStation nowadays is an Xbox.
No need to get mad about it.
@OldGamer999 that actually makes a good point that someone could call Xbox customer services about one of the “this is an Xbox” devices and they would have to tell them that it’s… not an Xbox 😱🤯
Removed - unconstructive
if I can't play Gears on it, it's not an Xbox
On what planet is it an Xbox? This is wishful thinking on MS's part who would love game pass on PlayStation.
Well there's your problem.. ; Twitter/muskrat social was used to post something. 🤮
twitter is the wild west & exposes how degenerate society is
i still use it because it’s useful though
That’s definitely not an Xbox cos people are buying it. 😁😉 Zing. Got ‘em.
We really need to stop catering to these people. People have the right to say whatever they want, they should not have to explain themselves or apologize to the people who may be offended. There will always be at someone who's offended by something. So, if we just ignore those people that are just trying to get attention, they will very quickly learn that whatever they're trying to do doesn't accomplish anything and they will stop. It really concerns me that everywhere I look, I see people are saying things and then immediately apologizing for everything they say. It's actually kind of weird and then I wonder why are they even speaking at that point.
