The next entry in the stunning Microsoft Flight Simulator series is now just a couple of weeks away, but if you were hoping for Flight Sim 2024 to get some reviews in the near future, it sounds like you might be waiting until post-launch.
This is according to an email we've received directly from Microsoft, which advises that we can inform our Pure Xbox readers about when you can expect our review. And, the answer is... definitely not on launch day (November 19th).
We're not sure exactly how much we're allowed to say about the specifics behind it, but Microsoft is distributing us with a code on the day of release, and the reasoning for that does make sense - so don't panic or anything!
Obviously we can only speak for ourselves, so who knows if other Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 reviews may pop up earlier than the 19th, but we'll probably have to wait a few days (at least) to give our verdict. The good news is that we do have some previews already, which suggest that we're looking at a potential Game of the Year candidate.

I assume their reasoning is to benefit Playstation in some way 🤷♂️
It'll take a few days for some people to download it if the last game is anything to go by. 🤣
Looking forward to this one! 2020 was the first MS Flight Sim I've played and I was blown away. So much so that I opted to just buy it outright instead of renewing Game Pass just to play it more.
@Markatron84 Apparently it'll be a little more manageable: https://www.purexbox.com/news/2024/09/microsoft-flight-simulator-2024-will-have-drastically-lower-install-sizes
It’s going to be a 9/10 anyway and be great so personally it’s one of those games I don’t think players have to worry about.
@Broosh oh wow, that's actually a much smarter way of handling it. Good on them 👍
It’s going to get a PS5 reveal.
I expect this to be an awesome sim for folks who are into all the flying stuff.
While i appreciate a good sim my preference lean towards staying on the ground with sim racing so I don't expect i will even download this personally.
Still for the folks its aimed at I hope you all have fun.
It’s Flight Sim, so I’m sure it’ll be a solid yet incredibly niche product that does very well for itself despite that. Same as it ever was.
I can’t wait! Jaw dropping graphics, more emphasis on the career mode, and a smaller SSD footprint 😃
@MjJmediablogger I wish! I’m genuinely tempted to get an Xbox just for this. Don’t have interest in anything else except for maybe a few things in my old xbox account that I don’t have on PS.
I should imagine that the reason could be something to do with the game's increased reliance on content streaming. The reduced file footprint is possible because most elements are held server side - far more than FS2020.
Either the servers are not ready, or perhaps Microsoft is wary of having outlets review the game on almost empty servers, and giving a false impression of how they might actually perform on launch day? 🤷♂️
This is one of those games that I can't quite enjoy, I don't get it either.
It's beyond brilliant, incredible dev magic and engineering but it just didn't hook me.
Excited to see it in action though
@K1LLEGAL more likely to be due to an online element. If they are delaying review code on games due to PS5 announcements then Nadella really has lost his way. I cant see that being it.
I’m looking forward to swing if the streaming tech can be relied upon to match the fidelity of the last game, as I’d love to free up the 170+GB it takes up. Also looking forward to tasks, a more guided process of what to do, not just fly A to B.
I'm revamping my whole HOTAS setup in preparation for this! Don't have a yoke unfortunately because I have to share the mount with the racing rig so the steering wheel gets the center and the hotas clamps to either side, so not the best for civilian flight but still serviceable, good for combat flight, and decent if I pull the cams and dead stick it for a makeshift helo collective. Hoping VR works well day 1.
@CallMeDuraSouka It's not really a game, it's a "study simulator". Not really about game objectives but about simulating actually flying real planes because your probably don't have a cup cool million laying in the couch cushions to actually own a plane if you're interested in flying one 😊
If it's not for you it just means you've never looked at an aircraft and thought "wish I could fly that, just once..."
I never really saw the appeal of 'just' Flying but but learning a 'career' in some specialised Flying based 'Game' that has more objectives than just fly from A to B does interest me, I just don't know if its something I'll actually have time to sink into it...
@BAMozzy I think if you set your mind to really understanding how a flight works in a real world sense it's a deep thing that could grab you but yeah I agree if you log in and pootle about in a plane without paying attention to any of that it's limited appeal beyond sightseeing. For me... Some of my greatest moments where I've felt a sense of achievement in a game have come from flight sim. Planning and executing the perfect flight according to the rules of the real world takes patience, research and learning. And I think it's a game of great beauty. But it's not for everyone.
@Dround87 I don't find that aspect particularly exciting or enjoyable. I can't think of anything more tedious than say a long haul flight, cruising at 30k feet for 8hrs before you have to 'land' after take-off.
Its not like I don't like or enjoy 'flying' based games - I just want something more - like Combat (AceCombat, Star Wars Rogue Squadron etc) or even just on rails shooters like Afterburner - but they have something more to do in Air than just 'fly' however much its more realistically simulated or not.
At least this seems to inject something more into just flying with actually objectives - like crop dusting, Mountain Rescue or firefighting - build your 'flying' career/business rather than just go sightseeing in planes...
@BAMozzy well yeah! I mean there is a speed modifier to deal with that. The the cruise time is not the main event although it can be fun to watch the alpes or whatever pass below you if you're feeling it. It's the cold starts and managing accurate landings I enjoy. I usually did my flights like Cambridge to London or something like that. Landing at London City at night... Probably my favourite thing to do in the game!
