We're officially entering Game of the Year season, folks! Today, the team behind the Golden Joystick Awards 2024 revealed their 12 games that are up for the "Ultimate" GOTY prize, and one of them is technically an Xbox first-party title.
That game is... (drum roll please)... Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Yes, there's no place for the likes of Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 or Age of Mythology: Retold in here, and obviously Indiana Jones is still a bit too far away to be considered.
Here's the full list of nominations for Ultimate Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2024:
- Animal Well
- Astro Bot
- Balatro
- Black Myth: Wukong
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- Helldivers 2
- Metaphor: ReFantazio
- Satisfactory
- Silent Hill 2
- Tekken 8
The rest of the categories have been voted on over the past month, so there's every chance Xbox will walk away with multiple awards. That said, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Astro Bot have the most nominations overall at five each.
If you're interested in submitting your vote for the Ultimate GOTY award, you can do so over on GamesRadar. You've got until Friday, November 8th - and then all the winners will be revealed on Thursday, November 21st.
Which of these deserves Game of the Year in your opinion? Let us know down in the comments below.

Seems like a pretty strong list though surprised UFO 50 didn't make the cut with a 92 on Metacritic and is more unique than anything else here. Animal Well is currently my GOTY, though in truth I haven't played many of this list yet, usually get around to games much later.
Silent Hill 2 would be the pick for me. Black Ops 6 was real good though.
Astro Bot, followed by Metaphor for me!
Lots of great titles to choose from here.
Wukong
FF Rebirth
Astrobot
Was how I voted, but they could be in any order and I feel bad leaving Helldivers 2 out as its great.
I'm hoping Dragon Age is one I consider worthy of being in this list too (despite fierce opposition no doubt), but I'm unlikely to start my playthrough till later this week (might be first title I play on the pro.)
If I had to bet on it with real money
I would have £10 on Astro Bot.
FFVII Rebirth is the only right answer!
Makes sense, know a lot of people liked Hellblade 2 but it’s clear as day they put too much focus on cinematics instead of gameplay. There are also many other games that aren’t on this list that could be on this list instead of Hellblade 2. Also low key glad to see Black Ops 6 getting the credit it deserves. Know mp has some problems but the core is super good and the campaign is great, glad to see Xbox get a W.
If Dragon Age is already on this list then Batman Arkham Shadow should absolutely be here too. I don't think VR will be overlooked too much longer hopefully. Nice mix of genres there though.
Rebirth > Astro > metaphor for me.
Good mix of games there.
Shame Indy etc (assuming good releases) miss out, because by the time next year comes around they are largely forgotten about.
Astrobot hands down. Nothing else even comes close.
Astro bot. That game is on another level in every way that matters.
Sad to see just one MS game, but it was a particularly bad year for team green :/
I don't care what anyone says, LAD: Infinite Wealth is still GOTY for me.
Played none of these Games.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 has the best shooter campaign since Goldeneye 007, it actually reminded me a bit of it.
Of that list I'd go...
1. Astro Bot
2. Tekken 8
3. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
Can't believe Stellar Blade didn't make the cut. Smoothest gameplay I've experienced in years. Story was kind of weak but not enough to not be recognized as a GOTY contender in my book. Looking at this list though I have to go with Astro Bot. Maybe DAV but its too early.
How infinite wealth got over looked is beyond me.
Rebirth for me, though I’d be totally happy if Astro Bot won. If I remove personal biases, I would say Astro Bot probably deserves the nod.
Balatro was my third pick.
One more that it will get in Geoff Keighley’s yearly abomination
@Lup same for me at the moment
Tough call for me between Infinite Wealth, Space Marine 2, and Dragon's Dogma 2 but I think it's DD2 when all said and done.
This list is a sony yankfest, but most of these awards are. And lmao at Marvel's Dragon Age being on there.
If everyone was being honest with themselves, this would be Balatro's.
But if the Chinese audience finds the page, Wukong is going to walk away with it.
Like a dragon 8 and ufo 50 got snubbed. Metapjor deserves it tho. Metaphor got snubbed in so many other categories, like best storytelling and best soundtrack!
Gotta be Silent Hill 2.
@Titntin
So your top 4 games are not available on Xbox, thanks for your input.
Animal Well is brilliant, but I played more Balatro. Both outstanding games! If I had a PS5, I’d probably plump for Astro Bot, as that looks fab too.
@GeeForce
Unfortunately not mate - though it surely can't be long before they release Wukong, and that was my top pick..
We were asked 'which of these are your picks this year - we were not advised to keep our picks Xbox only.
The list has at least %50 of titles not being available on xbox, and I didnt pick the list. It's just unfortunate that so many of the top titles this year were not on Xbox.
@Titntin
Yeah, I guess buddy.
Initially it just felt you were rubbing it in a bit.
Apologies.
@GeeForce No prob mate, I hope next year there will be some cracking xbox exclusives vying for pole position.
I had originally agreed with my wife we would sell the series X, but Ive not kept the box and prices for older machines are low, so we still have it and Im still keeping my fingers crossed for Avowed to be a blast, so it looks like I will remain a Series X owner. It means I can keep my forza collection available too... a big win in this house!
