Season 2 was genuinely good. The problem is it's clearly a very expensive TV show to make. Almost certainly costing a lot more than Fallout, Last of Us etc... Halo on the cheap just doesn't work. Would be surprised if someone picks it up elsewhere.
That said, new viewers should skip season 1 and just enjoy the fall of reach!

From a first party front, same as most every year. Next to nothing more than one game between Christmas and July.

Nope, not particularly interested in MMO's anyhow and as much as I like Skyrim/Oblivion, I have enough to play between releases without needing a Tamriel fix. Good for those who enjoy it though.

I'll be skipping the Showcase this year. I do not want to give Xbox any postive metrics after the Tango Game works closure.

Xbox bought Activision, not to change the Call of Duty machine, but to simply absorb it.
It's abundantly clear that more companies will be folded into the so called "blockbuster" titles and all the (in my view oft overlooked) interesting games like Pentiment, Grounded, Hi Fi Rush etc... will be ignored in favour of the COD cashcow.
I'd honestly rather have Don Mattrick back at this point.

It's not acceptable to buy new studios with the intention of closing old ones. It's no coincidence that the ladder was pulled up after they just released two games recently. Absolutely indefensible. Outrageous when considered with the recent ActiBlizz acquisition. The tone of the internal email is shockingly inconsiderate as well. I shan't be standing by Xbox any longer.

The difference in score is just the "Xbox tax". For some reason only Xbox games get reviewed with the "gaming climate" as a thing. Also some of the negative reviews at launch were genuine clickbait nonsense. Now the game has been out over a year it's generally the more respectable gaming sites reviewing the PS version, hence the higher score for exactly the same game.

Of course it was cancelled. Sadly we're in a world where any game that is First Person and not Call of Duty has people whining (see Indy reaction for proof). Stagnant boring times.

Waiting until all the episodes are out before I use a month free trial on Paramount+ to watch it. After the disappointment of the first series however I am very much looking forward to this new series. Seems like it should be a vast improvement

Definitely the claim of 10 games this year from Xbox adds up!

It's a real transitional experience. The driving and handling is the best out there, better than GT7 for my money. But the single player experience is so stale and lacking, add in fundamental problems like the AI and penalty system and it just needs real work still.
I do believe the quality driving mechanics make it worthwhile for racing fans but as it stands, maybe wait to reinstall until the larger problems are fixed.

Sounds like a good time to wind down and uninstall. It's clear they're looking to monetize this as hard as possible. Being able to "earn" the next season in game has been taken away.

B for me. Hellblade 2 looks great with a release date soon. Avowed shaping up nicely. Indiana Jones looks perfect.
But Ara not coming to console is a shame and Visions of Mana just felt like filler. Not an MS Studios game and not even coming to Game Pass!
But the good outweighs the bad.

Double Fine to drop a game this Thursday. Ava to get a console release. Hellblade 2 and Avowed locked on for this year, Indy targeting this year and then Towerborne, Flight Sim 24 and a Quake 3/Hexen remaster to finish things off nicely for Team Green.

As much as a disappointment as Redfall in my view, with none of the redemption potential.

Played AC Origins and ended up having to play AC 2 parallel at the same time. For all the world building and fun, the games just do too much for the player automatically. Systematic problem of modern games. Difficulty doesn't change the fact that core gameplay mechanics are far too simplified (in Origins case, just climbing any surface without issue!)

Can't complain. Gears 4 was solid, Gears 5 was excellent and Gears Tactics is sublime!

Also worth pointing out that the Xbox console ports of Age of Empires 2+4, GoldenEye 007 & Quake 2 arrived this year as well from a first party perspective!
Add those into the list and it's a very good year indeed!
(Not forgetting the Rally Adventure Expansion for Forza Horizon 5 and the fact Halo Infinite is finally in a good state)

@BIG3 if you know nothing about Halo it's probably worth a watch. I watched Season 1 with my wife (who is not a gamer) and she found it ok, if rather disjointed. As a big fan of the games it irritated me, it was clearly written and made by people who have next to no interest in the source material.

I gave a B, but harsher scores are also fair. It's a problem of Xbox's own making in that 2023 had such huge expectations, it could never meet them all. Making the obvious disappointments like Redfall stand out all the more.
I am one in the crowd that think Starfield is amazing, but Forza Motorsport is seriously needing a lot of work still...
Hi-Fi Rush my game of the year. Having Age of Empires 2+4 along with Goldeneye on consoles is also amazing! Not to mention the Quake 2 re-release.
But then Minecraft Legends was poor...
On a normal timeframe it's a very good year but coming off the back of the worst Xbox year ever in 2022, I can't help but feel they needed just a little bit more.

@dreadful @MaxC the both of you have misinterpreted my comment as one of Controller/KBM superiority. It's a question of choice. The fact that certain people (yourselves included) think one side favours the other is proof as to why there should be an option to choose who you play with.

Again, the AI is absolutely atrocious.
The penalty system is ridiculous too. I praise the attempt to have online clean racing, but when I get rammed in a hairpin, bounce into another car and get a 2+ second penalty, the system is broken.

That's the problem. Online has a ridiculous penalty system, even with an A safety rating (avoid a collision, oooops off track that's a penalty)
Single Player has awful AI.

+1 for calling this out. True fans enjoy the good times and call out the nonsense. This is, most definitely, utter nonsense!

Also pointing out the potential close to half a year gap between November and "Spring" 24. Turn 10 definitely need to bring more content than that regularly or this could be a Halo Infinite situation.

The career mode is definitely a little stale but the gameplay (what matters most) is fantastic. I'd give it 9/10. Wouldn't be surprised if in a year's time it's a 10/10 must play.
I can see myself playing the featured championships for years to come, so as long its updated well with tracks and features I couldn't be happier.

As much as I love Xbox this "early 5 day access" is really poor. Forza is probably my favourite gaming series but I'm waiting till launch day still. How long before it's a week early access, or two? Sadly with the sales from this and Starfield as well I doubt Xbox will turn about face, but I shall still vocally call this out as the cynical cash grab it is, charging the "supposed hardcore" fans more for the sake of it

Yes! After Horizon 5 didn't get a dynamic background I was hoping the new Forza would get one! I'll be replacing the Starfield one with this for sure!

@Cikajovazmaj it will be. Forza Horizon 5 had a car pack but also got free story updates and cars etc...
This is the same. Free tracks are coming at regular intervals, along with career mode extras too. Just that there are some extra cars on car pass for those who want them.

I'll be getting this pack but still waiting till launch day. As someone who will buy the car packs it makes sense but I really don't like this pre game pass launch creep Xbox are pulling lately so I'll be withholding purchase till the 10th
