Back when Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi RUSH first arrived on Xbox it became something of a critical darling, and this week's PS5 re-release is much the same story as early reviews start to trickle out for the PlayStation version of the title.
At the moment, Hi-Fi RUSH on PS5 has a Metacritic score of 91, and it's currently coming in at number three for the best-rated PS5 games of 2024 - as collated by the review platform. Interestingly, the Xbox version settled on an 87 Metacritic score in the end, coming in at number 15 on the best Xbox games of 2023 list. Of course, we have lots of 2024 left yet, so we'll have to see where Hi-Fi ends up on that PS5 list by year's end.

Our sister site Push Square recently granted the game an 'Excellent 9/10' score, deeming Hi-Fi RUSH "an essential title for PS5 owners". Incidentally, that's the exact same score that we handed out for Hi-Fi RUSH when it came to Xbox Series X|S last January.
Anyway, it's great to see Hi-Fi RUSH land with PS5 owners in much the same way it did for us back in 2023 - this is one fantastically creative title that's been given new life by a PlayStation 5 release.

Does that mean the PS5 version is better or PS critics are more starving for content so they give higher scores?
@VoidPunk Probably gets the better rating due to the fully patched version of the game along with the DLCs too! Has to be looked at as better for all that I guess.
I bought the game for PS5 but haven’t had the chance to play it yet. All in all, the ideas of Microsoft releasing games on PlayStation is definitely looking like it’s paying off! Definitely more to come for sure!
Good now pump some of that money into a new gears game please
@VoidPunk think you answered your own question…
Glad it see it's doing well over there. Don't let the ponies fool ya into thinking they hate it 😉
Removed - trolling/baiting
@VoidPunk I enjoyed the heck out of the game when it dropped on GP last year. I didn’t put it down. It’s only better with the added content. All the Sony fans prob hate that they have to give an Xbox game good scores haha. Idc. I love it.
@VoidPunk I looked at the Xbox scores. It seems to be lower due to 3-5 sites giving it extra low scores. If those were removed as outliers they’d probs have the same score more or less
@VoidPunk just an example of the critics bias « The wasteland that has been the Xbox release schedules for the last few years limits the accolades we can give the game but it’s a breath of fresh air for Xbox gamers » then giving it 8/10…this is ridiculous! Are you reviewing the game or the platform?
@VoidPunk yeah I’m sure ps users have been starving for a game like high fi rush 😂
The difference in score is just the "Xbox tax". For some reason only Xbox games get reviewed with the "gaming climate" as a thing. Also some of the negative reviews at launch were genuine clickbait nonsense. Now the game has been out over a year it's generally the more respectable gaming sites reviewing the PS version, hence the higher score for exactly the same game.
@DJKingaling It's the Xbox Tax® at work.
Better than Spiderman 2 according to PushSquare.
But when it was on Xbox only, it was just "indie trash" as fanboys said.
It has been always 2023 GOTY in my book (I like Baldurs gate, but it has Nothing to do against this masterpiece) the only thing that I hate about it is the lack of a proper physical release. Let’s hope the switch 2 version fix that.
This XBox tax is disgusting
I’d honestly say it’s the fourth best game to release on PS5 this year, personally. I wish this game all the success it deserves. It’s the best first party title by Xbox since the Ori games and best yet this generation.
Way to fuel the conspiracy theorists with their Xbox tax nonsense. The game simply has a higher score on playstation because there's only 10 reviews compared to the 63 reviews on Xbox.
Glad to see it doing well on PS. Spread the love!
Funny the way they dismissed it when it was exclusive
The salty comments here are really sad. If it had scored lower overall everyone would be saying “All the PS sites are scoring it badly because it’s an Xbox studios game 😭” and it still would have been classed as “Xbox Tax”. It was never going to get the exact same score because different sites are reviewing it and it has over a years worth of gameplay updates under its belt.
The fact of the matter is there is no journalistic conspiracy against Xbox. Their best games (Forza Horizons, Gears, most Halos, Flight simulator etc) have reviewed exceptionally well and arguably some of their mid games have reviewed better than they should….looking at you Starfield. Also worth pointing out that multiplat games often score higher on Xbox on Metacritic with Dead Island 2, Diablo 4, Alan wake 2, Balatro and new Prince of persia being some recent examples. “Xbox Tax” is nothing more than a justification fanboys came up with for Microsoft’s spell of bang average games. Journalists have proven over and over again when an Xbox game deserves praise it will get it
Yeah, it is a great game. It's nice for those PS5 only players to experience now too.
The game has all the updates and has less reviews, of course the score may be higher.
Ghostwire Tokyo has a higher metacritic score on Xbox than PS5 and so does BG3 but suddenly no one is screaming about that.
@Mindurbiniss
This is not PlayStation exclusive though, I saw people dismissing Persona, Yakuza and every other JRPG before they came to Xbox.
@VoidPunk
PS Critics have the highest rated game so far this year, then they get Rise of the Ronin in 2 days and then Stellar Blade next month. No starving there I'd say.
Honestly i'm expecting kind gestures from Sony, like Returnal port for Xbox.
@endlessleep
Shouldn't expect then, it won't happen.
@ShadowofTwilight yeah i know. Just want to say it lol
Sony - "Thanks Microsoft."
Microsoft - "Glad to help."
@Sifi
Point being?
@MomsSpaghetti
I didn't get it myself but plan to pick it up eventually on sale. Busy with other games at the moment.
