Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Games Showcase is very much shrouded in mystery right now — aside from the all-but confirmed Call of Duty Direct segment — but a newly discovered trademark, alongside a fresh teaser, are starting to point towards a potential DOOM appearance during the show as well.
First off, let's talk that trademark. Folks have discovered a ZeniMax Media trademark (Bethesda's parent company) recently - one that's titled 'IDKFA'. That very codename happens to be an old DOOM cheat code, and the 2024 trademark has been filed in relation to "entertainment services, namely, providing on-line computer games".
There isn't much more information about this trademark floating around right now, and these sorts of things do get filed often with no eventual use - so it's worth keeping that in mind. However, we also have a new rumour that hints at an Xbox Games Showcase appearance for DOOM next month.
That rumour comes from The Verge's Tom Warren, who posted a very teaser-y teaser about the series when closing out his recent report on the turmoil going on over at Xbox. Basically, Warren added the phrase "Microsoft will be banking on some new game announcements lifting the Doom around Xbox" right at the end of his report - emphasising the word Doom there. It's a very thin tease is this one, but combined with the above trademark news, it's making us hope for a big announcement from id Software this June.
We'll know for sure when Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase takes place on June 9, at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST.
