In case you missed it, yesterday Call of Duty fans voiced their concerns when pre-order page listings for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 suggested the title would require a huge download of around 300GB.
There were some suggestions this was factoring in the "entire" Call of Duty app, and Activision has now officially confirmed this. As for the file size of Black Ops 6, the "actual estimation" of this will be available closer to launch, and you won't have to download other titles or language packs.
Here's the full statement (via Call of Duty Updates on social media):
Correction: The estimated file size currently displayed on the Black Ops 6 pre-order pages does not represent the download size or disk footprint for Black Ops 6.
The sizes as shown include the full installations of Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Warzone and all relevant content packs, including all localized languages combined which is not representative of a typical player install experience.
Players will be able to download Black Ops 6 at launch without downloading any other Call of Duty titles or all of the language packs.
The actual estimation of the Black Ops 6 file size will be available closer to launch.
So, there you go - we'll find out the file size of this game close to launch this October.

call of duty being such a huge size isnt news its like that every year
Regardless of whether it's on game pass or not, I'm not installing 200+GB to play the game just for its single player.
So, more fake news then - Eurogamer was full of it yesterday with tales of a 320GB install. It was obvious that was for the whole nine yards complete with MWII, MWIII and BO6.
I have no interest in the multiplayer so I will just install, complete the campaign once or twice and then uninstall.
Flight Sim 2024 might be interesting though…
Call of duty games are always huge nowadays
@Feffster not necessarily fake news. They might just be investing some time in actually optimising and compressing their game properly for once, now they’ve seen a backlash.
Considering the very short length of a COD campaign and the relatively small size of their worlds it’s always been frankly ridiculous the size these come out at. They need a better pipeline. But frankly I think they like being the biggest in town, they seem to wear it like a badge of honour.
You mention Flight Sim, but that is LITERALLY the whole world. That it’s been smaller than COD only highlights what a poor job they do at Activision. It needed to be called out.
@themightyant - the implication (yesterday on Eurogamer ) was that you’ll need a 320GB install to play Black Ops 6 on Xbox. That was misleading as the install includes a lot more than the just base game and things that won’t need to be installed.
I haven’t played any of the recent COD games but can agree they are big files.
My post above was simply alluding to the prospect that Flight Sim 2024 may well be even bigger. It wasn’t a criticism of that game or what it is striving to achieve, just a speculative observation about file sizes.
It will be a Series S’s full hard drive space to play, you know? Or you could play it on xCloud.
@Feffster It wasn't misleading because the Xbox store page for the game LITERALLY said the install size was 309.85 GB which they reported on. (EDIT: It currently still does)
Subsequently the COD Twitter page has issued a correction that this "does not represent the download size or disk footprint for Black Ops 6." https://x.com/CODUpdates/status/1800273804389941699
@themightyant If you stay on the listing it very quickly changes to about 122.75GB for this device, on Series X at least, so I'm kind of baffled why it's constantly reported as over 300GB

@carlos82 Click this link to the Xbox store and click 'more to see' it still says 309.85GB which is what they were FAIRLY reporting on. Activision have now clarified a little that it won't be this big, but it was a completely fair thing to report on.
@themightyant yeah but most will be shopping for this on their consoles where it tells them a very different number. I get reporting it but I don't see anyone mentioning the fact that it gives you a very different number on the console itself
@carlos82 "most will be shopping for this on their consoles"
errr.... FAR more people play Call of Duty on PC than Xbox, as per Koticks testimony: 25% Monthly active users are on PC, 16% PS, 8% Xbox, 51% mobile for COD. (Interestingly revenue was far more on console: 59% console, 26% PC, and 15% mobile.)
Regardless Activision has issued a correction now all I was saying is it was fair for that to be reported when their own store page says it.
There should be a BLOPS 6 multiplayer only option that could likely register 50-80GB max. I don't need the latest streaming assets for multiplayer. Or every recent COD in one app. Why is this too much to ask? I'll be skipping it yet again this year although I'm sure they'll do just fine without me.
@themightyant - I think we are comparing apples and pears? The Eurogamer headline was presumably just designed as click bait to get a discussion going (which, fair play to them, it did!) The actual install size is listed as 122GB on the Xbox store. The 320GB install isn’t referring to the base BO6 game (which is what most of us will be installing).
Anyway, it is what it is….I’m not overly fussed how big it ends up being - I will download, play, delete and move on. Simples!
@themightyant I meant the console store as opposed to the Xbox web page
@TJ81 Yes! and a single player only option. But they won't do the later!
@Feffster I agree it doesn't matter now it's been clarified, but I don't think it was clickbaity to report it when it LITERALLY was (and still is) listed at 309.85GB. It said nothing about also including MW1 and MW2, nor would you expect that to be included, it's just the standard Black Ops 6 store page.
But I agree they could have perhaps checked other install sizes to clarify it wasn't a mistake by Xbox and Activision, which is what it turned out to be.
@themightyant I clicked on the link. But that page is so confusing. It's a page for a game that's not out yet. But there's already reviews. And reviews are from 2022. I think xbox messed up. Reviews should be for individual games, not the whole franchise.
