2023 was a landmark year for the current generation of gaming, with what seemed like an endless list of fantastic titles dropping throughout that time. Resident Evil 4, Baldur's Gate 3, Alan Wake 2 and plenty of others took the plaudits in a busy 12 months on Xbox, but how are you feeling about this year so far? Will it match up to 2023?
The first half of the year feels like it's been quieter than last year, but we've still had some really, really good games release by the halfway point here. Dragon's Dogma 2 got a top-mark 10/10 here at Pure Xbox back in March, while Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and plenty more have all struck a chord with Xbox fans in 2024.
As is usually the case, we've got so much to look forward to towards the end of the year as well - especially from Team Xbox. While Hellblade 2 got the Xbox first-party ball rolling in May, we still have Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and much more to come over the next few months.
But, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. We want to know how you feel about the first six months of 2024 on Xbox. Happy with the release schedule so far? Is the back half of the year looking more to your tastes? Tell us how you feel!

My game of the year so far is Banishers Ghosts of New Eden. That might change with The Veilguard but overall it's been a great year so far when it comes to gaming.
From a first party front, same as most every year. Next to nothing more than one game between Christmas and July.
@pip_muzz Yep, first-party is very back-half of the year leaning. We should be in for a good few months ahead!
Nothing has topped Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth yet, but just with that game alone it has been an incredible year.
It's been really disappointing in general (I play on Xbox and Switch), almost every game I'm waiting for is coming on the second half of the year so looking forward to them (Starfield DLC, Indiana Jones, Black Ops 6, Flight Sim 2024, Dragon Age, Metal Slug Tactics, Life is Strange).
So I've been enjoying a lot playing the same things, playing a ton of Forza Motorsport and Fallout 76. As for new releases, loved Balatro and Still Wakes the Deep
No different to the PS5 really though Sony did use third party exclusives to help.
Most third party games are on both systems.
I don’t count remasters and old games that are backwards compatible.
New games only for me.
I’m hoping both do better exclusives wise the second half of the year.
I don’t count any games until released and reviewed as my trust in this crazy business is very low.
Same as every year. Relaxin’ and chillaxin’ on the Green and White box. Always a chill experience for me regardless of what games come out.
Games are rolling out pretty consistently and are from a variety of genres. I think 2024 is doing fine.
For XB itself I think they are doing fine as well. Some new console offerings coming, a new IP before the end of the year, Hellblade II already released, and constant support for live service games such as Flight Simulator, Elder Scrolls, Forza Motorsport, etc. is also providing gamers with additional things to do. To me their showcase in June was the best since the FF surprise announcement back in the 360 era.
Depends what we are talking about. First party has been disappointing so far.
But across all games more have released I want to play than I can keep up with, so it's not a shortage of games overall. And Game Pass keeps delivering.
So i'm more than happy enough, I don't care if games are first or third party as long as good games keep coming, and I am enjoying them.
Infinite Wealth and Dragons Dogma 2 have been fantastic hilights of 2024 for me.
There have been plenty of good if not great games but none that have really connected with me yet. The indies have carried the year with Still wakes the deep, Brotato and Balatro for me… 2023 was so good that my backlog is the real winner here…
i just got my Xbox 2 weeks ago. Enjoying Forza Horizon 4
Don't play on Xbox, but if I did, I wouldn't be disappointed this year, since every game I really dig has released on Xbox as well thus far.
Given the only things I've played this year, aside from Starfield, have been backwards compatible games.
Not the hottest IMO.
Pretty meh. I’m actually considering cancelling my Game Pass. I paid for it even though I rarely used it outside of Halo Infinite but there’s not much coming up to keep me subbed.
All I'll say is we should have loads more Activision games on gamepass by now! Apart from that everything seems grand to me🤷
Not terrible but nothing really special thus far. Our Xbox has been reduced to a Forza/MLB/Ocassional crossplay box for the last few months or so. Not that thats bad thing just hasn't been a standout 1st half of the year at all
actually the same as every year, for me personally the first game I look forward to is Star Wars Outlaws because I just love Syfy, I like everything Star Trek, Star Wars actually fun
I think the Game Pass has had a strong start to this year, but that's me , others may experience it differently
Pretty happy so far, i finished about 40 games this years and i enjoyed all of them, Senua 2 for me was an amazing experience. The combination of game pass pc and meta quest 3 using UEVR mod gave to my games another dimension.
I’ve used mine less than 15 hours total this year, and a dozen of those hours were for Palworld, which I thought was ok. I had cancelled Gamepass for most of the year and resubbed recently because my son begged for it to come back. My gaming spend is the lowest it’s been in over a decade, possibly in my adult life, so I said whatever and resubbed. To be honest though, the year hasn’t been much better for Switch, and PlayStation has only been the superior console because it’s hosted the lone GotY contender for me this year in FF7: Rebirth and because Animal Well and Dave the Diver were better than anything that’s gone onto Gamepass this year for me. Even so, I cancelled my PS+ premium sub last month as the sub sort of felt more expensive than buying the games I actually played on the service.
First half 2024 has been sort of disappointing. Most of the “hits” so far this year have been misses for me. Helldivers, Dragon’s Dogma, and Infinite Wealth just didn’t hit for me. The fact that my top five has two DLCs in it just feels wrong, even if the are DLCs for two games I’ve said were GotY for me before.
To isolate things to just Xbox, Balatro is Xbox GotY so far (Balatro, Rebirth, and Prince of Persia has been my only 9/10 or above tier games, and most others I’ve played are 7/10 or less), same as it would be for Switch, but overall I’d say this year is like a 6/10 on the platform. I acknowledge there’s a lot out there for others, but very little for me. HOWEVER, come September that’ll be a very different story. The last quarter of the year looks to be making up for the other three quarters being tepid. I’ve got three preorders a month September to November. Avowed and Indiana Jones are the most exciting Xbox exclusives we’ve had yet in the generation for me, so I hope they deliver. Nintendo also has a fantastic looking last quarter and PlayStation has AstroBot. It’s looking like the year will turn around.
It's been a good year that should turn into a great year when the tidal wave of 1st party games start hitting in a few months.
Frankly, this year has been unimpressive to me. I am thinking it's going to be one of those "latter year" years. Really looking forward to Dragon's Age: Veilguard and Avowed. I suspect they will GOTY contenders, but we'll see.
@ParsnipHero I mean, Flintlock and Avowed are probably to be looked forward to in regards to Game Pass. The new Call of Duty campaign looks interesting... It's amazing that I mention Call of Duty. Has never been my thing. Lol.
It’s been a fantastic year, so far. Stellar Blade is definitely my GotY so far, though Shadow of the Erdtrrr could be if it wasn’t a DLC, though it might as well be Elden Ring 2.
Xbox killing Tango for no real reason really left a bad taste in my mouth this year
@UltraGuy I seriously don’t know how people can say that Sony’s first party output has been lacking this year?? Helldivers 2 has sold over 12 million copies. Stellar Blade was a great debut on console for Shift Up and Bungie more then delivered on the final shape. Sony has been kicking Xbox’s ass in terms of first party output this year so far.
@Willbo47 I played a bit of MW or MW2 back in the day on the 360 with friends as after Halo 2 my friend didn’t really enjoy Halo any more. So I’ve never really played it for the story.
I’m sure Flintlock and Awoved aren’t really my thing. Not really sure what that is right now as I’m avoiding online shooters, don’t have the attention span for anything other than roguelikes/lites and might be getting tired of them too.
So I’m looking to take a break from gaming and cancelling game pass makes sense right now even though I think the service is a great idea.
I've not found a reason to switch it on since I dropped GP last september. Im afraid theres been nothing exclusive that attracts me so far, and my 3rd parties are consumed elsewhere (partially cause my wife wont touch an xbox controller unless she must).
Im pretty looking forward for Avowed though so Im more hopeful the big black box will get used later.
Nice as it was to see so many trailers in the last show, we are still waiting for most and this year is pretty dry up till now. Im still living on a promise, but with such a huge backlog on the other machines Im happy enough to wait and hope to see more!
I bought my Series X 1 1/2 years ago and I absolutely love and with these incredible exclusive games on the horizon, it can just get better.
I am waiting for the games Gamepass or Retail
New Fable
Skyrim 6
Decay of the state 3
Cities skylines 2
All these games I would want !! ASAP
It's been a pretty average year to date, but a lot on the horizon. There has been just enough to keep me busy across all 3 consoles and PC, but nothing that really stands out on any of them from 2024. (Last amazing game was AW2)
Its going to be a really back heavy year though, thats for sure.
@UltraGuy It sold a lot, but Im not sure Id call it great. It was a new idea at a budget price, but the controls were crap and the post launch support has been less than ideal. Its an AA game at best and one I personally feel I wasted $30 on.
@UltraGuy they are still under Sony and are exclusive. Sony played a role in those games and deserve a lot of credit. Helldivers 2 only costing $40 doesn’t take anything alway from it. In the US it is the best selling game of the year in terms of total $$$ made. And also if Xbox as a whole includes black ops 6 and vessel of hatred when talking about its 1st party The final shape is for damn sure fair to be included with Sony considering they own bungie. Back to the 2nd party games Yes you are right that they don’t own shift up and arrowhead but they still directly are exclusive and they earn $$ from them.

If I'm being completely honest.....I have no idea.
These past few months at MS have been such a GIGANTIC cluster truck that I'm not sure I trust Xbox just yet.
Will be very interesting to watch them close out the year, if it's more stumbling and bumbling.........oy?
Very happy I switched back to Xbox last year. only really feel like I missed out on Helldivers but fingers crossed starship troopers ends up good
Huge disappointment, they released more games on PS5 & Switch than their own console (Xbox). More Japanese games also skipping Xbox, Square-Enix still skipping Xbox with Romancing Saga 2 Remake, FF 7 Rebirth & FF16 (their timed exclusivity already ended & no Xbox), more publishers skipping Xbox e.g. Capcom with Marvel vs Capcom, Bandai Namco with Gundam Breaker 4, NIS with Legend of Heroes & Ys still skipping Xbox. Terrible year so far, Hellblade 2 also a disappointment
Same as every year this gen. Another year to wait through until next, when we might get some games. I don't have faith that they will deliver what they promised next year.
@UltraGuy I know quite a few people who sunk a lot of time into it. Dont let my aa comment be misleading, lots of solid non aaa games out there. This is just one that disnt click with me
