Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 27-28)

gollumb82

On XSX, I will be playing Sleeping Dogs (my 4th playthrough). Love this game and the hand-to-hand combat is just ridiculously fun.
Also, some eFootball PES 2023. It's much improved over last year's version, but the content is still a ways off for it to be deemed an actual PES game.
On PS5, I'm actually just waiting for The Last of Us: Part 1 to unlock (already got it preloaded).
Have a good weekend everyone!

@Dezzy70 @Fenbops
They've gone quiet because they have nothing to shout about. No first party games till early 2023 is not a good look. Especially with X-Mas on the horizon. Let's hope the ActiBlizz deal gets greenlit soon and Xbox along with Game Pass gets a massive shot in the arm in the form of games. Personally, I would like them to continue with the backward compatible games programme. This generated a lot of buzz. I don't know. They should do something. Anything.

Re: Two Project CARS Titles Are Being Delisted On Xbox This Year

gollumb82

@ThatFilbo
Forza, as good as it is (I loved 6, liked 7 at best) is nowhere near Project Cars when it comes to authenticity of driving a race car. I love Project Cars 1. Have it installed on my PS5 and play it on and off. It still looks great (better than PC2 in my opinion) and sounds amazing. The track list still puts other racers and sims to shame. Speaking of shame, Project Cars 3 shouldn't even bear that name. I played it on PS4 Pro and it sucked in terms of driving simulation. The graphics were average and still caused stuttering, especially in rainy weather. I'd sooner recommend you play Lotus Turbo Challenge on Amiga than that pile of crap.

Re: Talking Point: Which Is The Best BioShock Game On Xbox?

gollumb82

Loved the original. I was in awe while playing for the first time and I replayed it last year. Still holds up. Infinite is really good as well. Bioshock 2 didn't do it for me. It lost the sense of wonder which made the original so great. Also, I wish I could play System Shock 2 on Xbox. I refuse to play anything on PC anymore.

@MaccaMUFC
I know, but I fear they will lose their charm, so to speak. Having played them over the last week I can say they are still pefectly playable and look ok. I'd rather Remedy started work on Max Payne 4 or a new IP. I love all of their games so yeah. Same thing with Dead Space. I won't be buying the remake, unless I learn it's very faithful to the original.

Re: Pick One: What's The Best Racing Series In Xbox History?

gollumb82

@MaccaMUFC
That depends. I like both arcade and sim racing (or simcade if you want to be more specific). In terms of the sheer fun factor Forza Horizon mops the floor with any racer out there. I do like Motorsport as well. My favourite is FM6 and I hope FM8 is more like 6 rather than 7 (especially in the career, soundtrack and overall feel department). I get where you're coming from, though. I had to take a break from FH5 as I got tired of it in time. Still, Gran Turismo 7, which I bought at launch because I liked GT Sport well enough, got boring after 10-15 hours. The worst part if it- the catch up you play in most races. No qualifying session etc. Also, the rigged reward tickets that net you the worst possible reward 90% of the time. In short, Forza is way better, whether you're talking Horizon or Motorsport.

Re: If You're In The US, Now Is A Great Time To Buy An Xbox Series S

gollumb82

@uptownsoul
Fair enough. I'm not the kind of guy who gets excited looking at sales figures. This gen I game on both XSX and PS5 and that suits me just fine. I guess I'm just happy Xbox is back when it comes to some actual competition. That gave last gen away with a whimper. Sony needs to feel MS' breath to be more competitve.

Re: If You're In The US, Now Is A Great Time To Buy An Xbox Series S

gollumb82

@uptownsoul
Everybody knows Xbox Series consoles won't overtake Playstation 5 in terms of sales, including Microsoft. I'd say Xbox is doing admirably well this gen just based on the consoles with barely any first party games so far. Also, demand for everything that's not a staple item is dropping rapidly. Where I live stores are giving 50% discounts on washing machines, fridges etc. PS5 is readily available online everywhere. This slowdown will affect Playstation too, mate. Just a matter of time.

Re: id Software Says It's Hard At Work On Its 'Next Big Game'

gollumb82

@Royalblues
Well said. I don't recall a console launch with basically zero launch games... The Xbox team have done a great job with the hardware, but dropped the ball hard when it comes to software. I mean, I'm in a much better position as I'm relatively new to Xbox. Series X is my first ever Xbox and I have a lot to play with Fable, Gears and Halo. The Xbox faithful can't say the same. It just seems logical for them to have prepared at least 2-3 killer games for the console launch. 2 years later and all we have is Halo Infinite and FH5 while Sony has Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, Ratchet, Kena, GT7, Horizon FW and soon God of War Ragnarok. It looks bad and even Phil is looking forward to playing Sony exclusives, as pathetic as it sounds.

Re: id Software Says It's Hard At Work On Its 'Next Big Game'

gollumb82

@Dezzy70
I couldn't have put it any better. I started this gen with Xbox and got a PS5 somewhere along the way. Gotta say that the PS5 is primarily for Sony so-called exclusives because as a console the Series X is better in many ways IMHO. Still, no games means that I'm playing the waiting game. It's even worse as I'm not a fan of Halo or Gears (I do love Forza Horizon and Motorsport). Fingers crossed for 2023 which could be a breakout year for Xbox with Starfield, Forza Motorsport 8 and maybe Stalker/Hellblade 2. We'll see, but I'll stick with Xbox for BC games if nothing else (PCs are for work as far as I'm concerned).

Re: id Software Says It's Hard At Work On Its 'Next Big Game'

gollumb82

This seems to be the story with Xbox this gen: company X is hard at work making a game we will probably see at the end of this gen... I got a Series X again for Starfield and Hellblade 2, but all I've played on Xbox this gen are mostly X360 and Xbox One games. Well that and a few indies on Game Pass.

Re: Xbox Boss Phil Spencer Is Getting A Lifetime Achievement Award

gollumb82

Congratulations Mr Spencer. Few people in the business deserve it more than you do. Also, I'm happy to live in the times when games are considered art. I remember when I got into gaming in the early 90s that games were ridiculed as entertainment for children. Look where we are now and I couldn't be happier.

Re: Forza Vs. Gran Turismo 7 Is The Hot Debate On Social Media Right Now

gollumb82

I loved FM6 because it was similar in many ways to GT. Forza 7, a completely different story. It's tough to compare GT7, which comes out in March, with a game we haven't even really seen yet and the devs have been mum about it for way too long. Ultimately, I hope FM8 is more like FM6, but I'm lucky to be able to enjoy both games.

Re: Crysis 4 Officially Revealed By Developer Crytek

gollumb82

@BrilliantBill
You're obviously right. It's on us, the consumers. I guess that's why I'd rather play Omno or Firewatch than another game in a declining series. Crytek was primed to take the industry by storm. Far Cry and the first Crysis were gamechangers. Since then they've arguably been a shell of their former selves. Hunt wasn't bad but far from the heights of their previous output. I think I read somewhere about Crytek's financial troubles. Oh well, enjoy the game when it releases 🙂 I'll be playing another indie gem instead of that.

Re: Talking Point: What Have You Bought In The Xbox Backwards Compatibility Sale?

gollumb82

@everynowandben
That's right. I suppose this is just testament to how little games innovate still since most people are really floored with those "atypical" things. I've played though the game 3 times and each and every time I promised myself not to cross "The Line", but I do it every single time. And every single time I feel bad about it afterwards. I know of a handful of games that make players feel that way. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. Sorry if I came across as rude.

Re: Deals: Xbox Lunar New Year Sale Now Live, 500+ Games Discounted

gollumb82

@DrJamesOxford
Good choice! That's what I did and I'm now halfway through Mankind Divided. Makes me wish for that Deus Ex game that closes Adam Jensen's story arc, but it may never happen. Unless someone convinces SE that Jensen is a superhero because they seem to be getting all the attention these days, sadly.

Re: Xbox Series S Deal Drops Console To Its Lowest Price Yet In UK

gollumb82

@J0nny5
Same here. I do have a 4K tv and I've already had an XSX and PS5 but had to sell them (money is tight atm). However, I bought a Series S and I don't feel like I'm missing much to be honest. No game on XSX or PS5 has blown me away in terms of that next gen feeling. I can see myself holding onto my Series S for 2-3 more years until this current gen catches some fire and an upgrade will make sense. Also, I'm not willing to pay the extortionate money that scalpers want or buy the overpriced bundles that shops are offering.

Re: Rumour: Apple 'Poaching' Xbox Engineers To Potentially Make A Video Game Console

gollumb82

@NEStalgia
Some great points as usual, NEStalgia. Back in October, when I sold my PS5, I was considering buying a gaming PC for a moment but realised I'd have to spend $2000 to buy a rig that would be a considerable upgrade and one that would let me play all new releases in 4K/60. Then the strangest thing happened... I realised it would be dumb to spend so much on a gaming platform and that I don't need all the bells and whistles when I game. So, I got a Series S and a PS4 instead and spent less than the retail price of either XSX or PS5. The library of games I get with that combo is more than enough to keep me busy until it's actually worth buying a PS5 (in my case that means whenever Naughty Dog's next game comes out). Not going back to PC and I hope PC will never eclipse consoles.

Re: Rumour: Apple 'Poaching' Xbox Engineers To Potentially Make A Video Game Console

gollumb82

@Banjo-
I'm also playing Sonic Unleashed and only just bought Max Payne 1-3 in the recent backwards compatibility sale 🙂 Gotta love the BC on Xbox. Wish Sony would follow in their footsteps (no, PS Now is not the same).
@BomberBlur07
It's not so much Capcom making such decisions but rather MS opting not to make another console and just going all in on Game Pass and cloud gaming (which is getting better, admittedly, but still not as good as playing natively). Sony might just do the same and there might not be a PS6. I know it's pure speculation, but you hear rumblings about cloud gaming being the future.
