Re: Xbox & PlayStation Stuck In 'Complicated' Call Of Duty Situation, Says Geoff Keighley

I read it. I thought about boxing, but wrestling could be even more fun 😁 Though I must admit my contact with WWE ended in the 90s, back when Brett "The Hitman" Hart was still a champ. Kinda felt the need to lighten the mood a bit. Still, fingers crossed that the ActiBlizz deals gets the green light from CMA so that Jim Ryan starts sweating bullets and stops acting like an entitled child. MS owes Sony nothing as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Says 'Phantom Liberty' Will Be The Game's Only Expansion

@Carck
I think it's funny you feel the need to call the game trash and then tell me to get over it. Trash to me means a game I would give a score of 1-4 on a scale to 10. Whatever you think about Cyberpunk 2077 I don't believe it's that bad objectively speaking based on the reviews it got. It's not about your right to an opinion. It's about the language to describe your lack of enjoyment and that lack of a middle ground between a great game and utter crap.

@abe_hikura
Preach brother! Seriously, though, I agree with you 100%. We live in the times when if a game scores below 8 it's trash, metacritic junkies and vitriol peddlers because game X didn't meet their lofty expectations. A game is either a spectacular success or an utter failure. Reviews have a lot to do with that, too. Alien: Isolation comes to mind and even A Plague Tale, which almost never got a sequel because the first one was called The Rats of Us and basically bashed as a poor copy.

Re: Soapbox: Gears Of War 2 Deserves 'The Last Of Us' Style Remake

@SplooshDmg
That made me chuckle. I agree with you regarding Bethesda. People like to put their games down due to bugs and such, but I really liked the fact they didn't let Fallout rot. Loved New Vegas (even though it was made by Obsidian, but Bethesda provided the blueprint), really liked Fallout 4. Haven't played Dishonored and I love Thief so I think I'll like it. Same with Prey (huge Bioshock and System Shock fan here). If only Bethesda makes good on giving us great new games, that alone will be a lot. Like you I can't wait for Starfield. Should make me forget about other games for a while. Problem is there's a lot riding on this game. If it fails, I think many people will lose their faith in MS and Xbox. Me included.

Re: Soapbox: Gears Of War 2 Deserves 'The Last Of Us' Style Remake

gollumb82

@SplooshDmg
Agreed. I even sold my launch XSX out of frustration like 8 months ago, but the Starfield trailer made me reconsider. I'm willing to wait patiently now. The Bethesda deal helped a lot as I haven't played any Arcane games yet, so I have some catching up to do. I'm hoping the ActiBlizz deal will further help us make it through the exclusives drought.

Re: Soapbox: Gears Of War 2 Deserves 'The Last Of Us' Style Remake

@Dezzy70
Saw the headline and thought: Dezzy is gonna have a field day with this 😜 Well, I guess it depends. While I get why many people are fed up with remakes, some of them are just up your alley. In my case that's The Last of Us. However, somewhere around Halloween I intend to replay Dead Space and have no intention of buying the remake. Same with RDR, if it ever happens as many fans want it. I agree with @BrilliantBill though. I look for great gaming experiences in the past, rather than the present. You are a fan of Sony's first party games, but just wait for all those GaaS that are inbound. Those will take a toll on the number of great Sony single player games.

Re: Xbox's 'Approach' With Starfield Is Leading To More ActiBlizz Scrutiny

gollumb82

@Valgore
No worries πŸ™‚ As for MS's acquisitions, it seems their studios wouldn't be able to provide the games necessary to compete with Sony. I realise it's not fair to those with only one console, but getting a Series S is not a big deal in financial terms. If I had to be honest, I'd say that I'm looking forward to one subscription service that offers both Sony's and MS's games (unlikely, but not impossible) or one console (highly unlikely). If PC gaming becomes more affordable I'll consider that. I'm weary of this fragmentation of the gaming market as in the VOD streaming market.

Re: Xbox's 'Approach' With Starfield Is Leading To More ActiBlizz Scrutiny

gollumb82

@Valgore
Should remain multiplatform? Why? Is there a law that states that? No? So it's just your assumption then. Same as most Sony fans. It's a business. Nobody said exclusives are to be made 'organically' only, as Sony fans like to describe it. I won't be affected either way as I game on both PS5/XSX, but this narrative about exclusives coming from Sony fans is laughable. You won't ever be able to play all the games you want on one system only.

Re: The 'Father Of Xbox' Is Uncertain About The Future Of Games Consoles

gollumb82

Used to be a PC gamer. Bought a PS2 in 2006 and never got back to PC gaming. I'd like to have a console at all times. It's just a different experience, different UI etc. Streaming will be big in a few years and as much as I see its advantages, I'm stocking up on consoles for the future. Currently I have an XSX, PS5, PS3, PS Vita and a Switch. I think I can sleep in peace and not be too concerned about the digital only age if and when it becomes a reality.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 3-4)

gollumb82

@Solidchief
Ah, a man of good taste πŸ™‚ Agree with you about Sleeping Dogs, but sadly the sequel was rightfully cancelled. It was supposed to be called Triad Wars and was to be focused on multiplayer... Some devs just don't know what made their games successful (I'm looking at you, DICE, and Bad Company 1/2).
Also, Split/Second is on my wishlist. Loved Burnout Revenge back on PS2 and keep hearing good things about it.
@BBB
Thanks for reminding me about Grid Legends. Loved the original GRID (2007 one), but since then all the follow-ups haven't been able to recapture the magic of the first one. I hope Legends is at least better than the last iteration.

Re: Assassin's Creed 'Mirage' Reportedly Launching In Spring 2023

gollumb82

@Kaloudz
I guess it depends. I'm not a fan of the modern Assassin's Creed games so I might be biased, but it just felt exactly like a modern AC game to me. An open world, full of stuff to do that keeps sidetracking you from the main mission constantly. Much of that is fetch quests or chasing foxes. The climbing is similarly done to Horizon, which means you can only climb what the devs want you to climb. The combat is fun, but enemy AI is dumb and they don't react when you're stealth-killing their friends right next to them. The graphics are great, but you can tell that from the screenshots. I played about 15 hours of it before I got bored and deleted it. Luckily, I played it via PS Plus Extra so didn't lose money. If you're into the modern AC formula you might like it.

Re: Video: Here's 25+ Minutes Of Persona 5 Royal On Xbox Ahead Of Game Pass Launch

gollumb82

@J_Mo_Money
I get you. With two jobs, a wife and daughter my gaming time is shrinking, but I've decided to die with a huge backlog before I quit gaming haha. Still, I absolutely see where you're coming from and this game is probably not for you. HOWEVER, it'll be on Game Pass so... No harm in checking it out eh? 😁 Ok, I'll see myself out. But that was how I tried it myself (PS Plus). I never would have played it otherwise.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These 'TBA' Xbox Games Are You Most Excited For?

gollumb82

@Banjo-
I guess a lot of people think the same (at least you have to assume that based on sales figures) but I agree with you. I played Ghost of Tsushima 2 weeks ago and found it to be just what I expected- Assassin's Creed in Japan. I probably have to add that I find AC games some of the most bloated and repetetive games ever made. I'm currently trying to get into FF7 Remake and it's tough. The levels of cringe in this game are making me wonder why I'm doing this to myself. In other words, it all depends on the preferences but I'm wondering if there's enough games on PS that I care about to keep it in the long run.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These 'TBA' Xbox Games Are You Most Excited For?

gollumb82

@Dezzy70
Right then, now I understand completely. I do like to dabble a bit in games of the past, as I like to revisit older titles, find some hidden gems I've missed. Even more so as the new games often are disappointing and aimed at earning money with MTX, lootboxes etc, or just suck in terms of plot, repetetiveness. That's how I've grown to dislike open world games. To conclude this interesting exchange, you do you and I hope you'll find some joy courtesy of Xbox yet. Cheers

Re: Pick One: Which Of These 'TBA' Xbox Games Are You Most Excited For?

gollumb82

@Dezzy70
I can see your point. In my case, I had a PS2, PS3, PS4, PS4 PRO, PS5. Sony have transitioned from a company that makes lots of varied games (in terms of genres and mechanics) into a play-it-safe and by the numbers type of digital entertainment. The only games I'm keeping my PS5 for are Naughty Dog games. I'm waiting for TLoU3 and TLoU2: Factions. Maybe Uncharted 5 if it comes. The others I might play on PS Plus Extra when available.
With Xbox, I haven't played Fable yet. I'll give Gears another look, still haven't played lots of X360 era games. Guess that's a big factor in my case. Same with the Switch. It's my first Nintendo console so I have a lot to catch up on 😁
All in all, a lot if it comes down to your personal preference and gaming history/backlog. I'm confident that once Starfield comes out, the narrative around Xbox and games will change a lot.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These 'TBA' Xbox Games Are You Most Excited For?

gollumb82

@Dezzy70
You have a right to moan. I'm frustrated, too. For context, I was in camp Playstation the entire 360/PS3 gen, but I remember being jealous of the exclusives that Xbox had back then.
As for no release dates- do they really mean anything these days? I'd rather MS did what Bethesda did with Fallout 4, announce the game when it's a couple of months away and then release it with no delays. You think Phil is not doing his job- he got Xbox back on the map. The games will follow. I mean, I've got a PS5, an XSX and a Switch and it's the PS5 that's the least exciting console for me. I'll play through TLoU1 next week and consider selling it. I'm fed up with GoW, Horizon, GoT to the point I haven't bought any of them. GoWR is GoW 4.5 and Horizon is just more Horizon. Sony are going the GaaS way and there's nothing new on the horizon either. Sorry for this long tirade. I get you but at the end of the day, there's two sides to this coin.

Re: Pick One: Which Of These 'TBA' Xbox Games Are You Most Excited For?

gollumb82

@Dezzy70
Dezzy, I know you want Xbox to succeed as much as I do, but you've got to try to be more positive. I'm referring to your remarks on Push Square specifically. As for Hellblade, you're right. We only have one trailer to go on, but it was a damn good trailer and the graphics might just be the best I've seen this gen. That alone warrants some cautious optimism, I think.Fingers crossed that Xbox finally shows its potential in more than just hardware next year. God knows Sony need a kick in the butt for all their shenanigans and greed of late (that doesn't mean I don't appreciate their games, mind you).
