@Dezzy70
Agreed. Nintendo seems to be doing its own thing and few people will disagree that it's working wonders for them.
@raftos
I'd imagine their lawyers were talking to the FTC. A website with some slogans will hardly convince an average gamer, let alone a rabid fanboy of PS or FTC people.
While I appreciate this idea I don't see why this is needed. The Xbox crowd is sold on this, the PS crowd will not be convinced and the N crowd probably doesn't care.
I actually downloaded it to see what all the fuss is about and ended up waiting for close to 5 mins to find a multiplayer match so I quit and uninstalled it. Is the campaign really that bad? I know I can check it out myself but at this point in my life time is more precious than money spent on games.
@JayJ Yup. I can't decide if I should buy anything anymore or just wait. As for the games, already got A Plague Tale installed and I've played Persona 5 on PS5 a while back so not going to devote 100 hours to it again. Scorn looks like a walking simulator with some shock value, but I'd like to be wrong.
@Dezzy70 Honestly, I don't know about that. What I do know is since the launch of PS5 the guys working for the Polish equivalents of Walmart etc have been in collusion with scalpers to hoard and sell PS5 consoles on Polish equivalents of eBay at extortionate prices and then splitting the dough. Disgusting. My guess is those stores decided to sell bundles to make it more difficult for scalpers. Obviously, Sony tells us it's because of Covid etc but they are probably happy with this myth of the PS5 being something of a unicorn that nobody has seen in a store since launch. They raised the prices of their games, consoles and are about to launch a single SKU where the disc drive is an option. I'm all for digital gaming but I imagine this will piss off PS loyalists who are clinging on to physical games. This type of attitude is what made me quit PS.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. I guess he's just doing all he can for his cash cow to keep bringing in the green. I won't ever believe HE is concerned about gamers.
PSA: guys, it's ok to quit Game Pass every now and then π I did it myself and came back after a while. I get why some of you are upset, but I have 2 jobs, a family etc and still manage to complete 2-3 games a month on Game Pass. I usually play late in the evenings and have learnt that the trick is to just stick to whatever game you decide to play. In my case the wealth of games on GP overwhelmed me and made me jump a lot (quick resume, paradoxically, didn't help my predicament) and now I just keep 4-5 games installed at all times, half of which are for my daughter who would kill me if I quit Game Pass π All those Paw Patrol and Disney games are some of her favourites. TLDR: don't force yourselves into sticking with GP, but you will be back next year π
Thankfully, none of the games leaving are on my to-play list. On the topic of Game Pass in general, first party games are here to stay, the rest are meant to leave at some point. I think it's a fair approach and honestly I waste a lot more money on other crap than Game Pass Ultimate sub. I'd keep it even if I only managed to complete one GPU game per month. Still worth it IMO.
@LtSarge I'll probably end up buying it anyway (along with PES 2021, Forza 6). I played Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate (FEAR Files) on PC back in the day. Liked them well enough, but probably not enough to pay the price people expect to get for used copies.
I'm playing Thief (2014) and loving it! Paid $2 for it too.
A bit of Forza Horizon 4 is on the menu as well and having watched the fantastic Cyberpunk Edgerunners I've started my 4th playthrough of CP2077. This time as a streetkid and a female V, so I have a shot at hooking up with Judy π
Have a good one guys and gals!
@LtSarge
I finished FEAR2 a week ago! Agree it's awesome still and I love being able to play those classics on XSX. I was actually thinking about getting FEAR1. Too bad it's not available digitally π don't feel like buying discs anymore... I know, first world problems.
@Titntin
My thoughts exactly! I played Forza Horizon 5 for a while but found it less engaging than FH4. I prefer the variety of seasons, the fantastic soundtrack (the ost for FH5 is flat in comparison), the UK is just more aesthetically pleasing to me than Mexico. Not to mention incredibly clever and informative Horizon Stories in FH4.
Another issue is fps. I tried to get into FH3, but 30 fps is just too noticeable to just pretend it's not distracting.
So I played it a bit and deleted it. The car models of legacy cars look like late PS3/early PS4 stuff. The driving is ok but too imprecise with a gamepad.
@Dezzy70 Same. I used to play a lot of NBA 2K and PES but not anymore. Racing games is a different story π Forza Horizon and Motorsport still a major part of my gaming sessions.
I swear, some guys only come here to bash Microsoft and Xbox... The mods should put an end to this. On topic: I never tried Stadia but I did try GeForce Now and it worked pretty well, so those who claim that MS is trying to kill off the competition are way off the mark. It's just that they found a winning formula (streaming and installing a game as options). Don't tell me Google can't afford to compete with MS. They just never cared about Stadia enough to let it properly take off.
@Banjo- Haha. It takes some time to get used to the fact that CP2077 is an rpg. The first person perspective kind of makes you expect it to play like a regular shooter. As you'd expect,at the beginning you are a weakling with a peashooter of a gun so take cover and when shooting aim for the head. Also, try leaning from cover when shooting and not going in guns blazingπ
@Banjo- The tv will have to wait. I usually change those after 5-7 years of use. I will eventually buy one of those and will be made by LG π As for MGS V, it was a huge letdown and I get why Kojima was so furious with Konami. The game was still very good, but the ending was rushed and incomplete. Not a big deal, though. I think MGS as a series has run its course and I'm glad it's over.
@Sol76
Thought so. My biggest gripe with this series is the car roster and the engine sounds. The tracks are actually better and more varied than Dirt Rally and so is the career mode. Thanks for chiming in π
@UndyingInsurgent95 Fair enough. Some features never made it to the final version, but at least it's not a mess like MGS V where the entire final act is missing. And that game got 9s and 10s across the board...
I'm really waiting for Dirt Rally 3.0/WRC game from Codies but I'll check it out. The last WRC I played was 8 and I quite liked it, but I hear this series has been stuck in place ever since then.
@UltimateOtaku91 I watched both, Downfall and Aftermath. Downfall is great and I highly recommend it. It makes for a great prologue to the game. Aftermath is not as good, but still worth watching if you're a fan of the series.
@UndyingInsurgent95
Only it's not a broken and unfinished product anymore. It's cool, though. You don't have to like it.
@Banjo-
That's why I've stayed away from OLED until now. A few of my friends have experienced burn-in in the early models and even the PS Vita that I own has burn-in as well. I hope in 2-3 years this issue will get completely resolved and then I'll buy one.
@Dezzy70 Indeed it is. To the point I regret that CDPR decided to let go of Red Engine in favour of Unreal Engine 5. I really love the aesthetic of this game and think it's really gorgeous now. Enjoy and do give me your impressions once you've played it for a bit π
@Dezzy70 You are in for a treat. Especially with your new tv and if you haven't played the game since the next gen patch arrived. It's actually one of the best games I've played. Just don't listen to the naysayers and make up your own mind.
Great to hear. I sincerely hope they'll keep their promise to not abandon this universe and a Cyberpunk 2078 will come out one day. Think I'll play it again somewhere around Christmas in preparation for Phantom Liberty DLC.
O...M...G. How did I miss this?! Gonna go download right now. Thanks Pure Xbox for highlighting it. Also, a question @PJOReilly: what happened to the gems of Game Pass feature? I remember it used to be a thing.
@SplooshDmg I can tell it's all just a bit of innocent fun so no worries π I do have to say I have no idea what DLSS, FSR or any of the terms you use mean. Guess my brain is so consolised at this point that I stopped caring for much else. However, I distinctly remember what it's like to play a PC game with 15 fps. I think that's the way I played Unreal back in 1998 on my Pentium 166 Mhz π
@SplooshDmg Oops! Seems I've interrupted your game here π Ok, let's keep it here. The admins seem to be very understanding. I hope @NEStalgia doesn't mind me doing his job haha. As for rtx, that was also my impression and I agree it is a resource hog and often not worth the performance hit. RTX 3080ti is a monster. No wonder you tend to stick to your PC more than consoles.
@SplooshDmg
I don't know if this applies to all games. I remember reading that only Series X can run Red Dead Redemption in its One X glory (and it does look amazing). As for graphics and fps I usually go for 60 fps, especially in racing and sports games. That said, I played CP2077 at launch on XSX in dynamic 1800p and 30 fps and had no problem with 30 fps. Slower paced games are perfectly playable in 30 fps. Control, on the other hand, seemed really sluggish in 4K/30 with rtx on (I have to add that I'm not a fan of rtx, but I imagine on a PC that can actually run it well it might be nice).
On a sidenote, I loved all my 3 playthroughs of CP2077 and think it looks great on XSX and PS5 (PS5 version being inferior due to noticably smaller city population in the game).
Series S will be fine one way or another, but I'd argue it's way too early for the devs to use its specs as an excuse for failing to make 60 fps a possibility in their games.
Edit: how about we move this discussion to the Xbox app. It seems that we have hijacked the comments section π
@SplooshDmg Those are exactly my thoughts. Why would Nintendo think about a Switch Pro if the regular one is flying off the shelves? Besides, Nintendo consoles have never been about graphical fidelity so they are good for the next 2-3 years still I think. I happen to think the same about the mid-gen upgrade. We are still nowhere near 4K/60 being the standard and in these troubled times game devs should focus more on content rather than hitting that threshold. It's part of the reason people misunderstand what the actual purpose of Series S is. I'm currently replaying FEAR 2 and I don't know if my Series X enhances the game in any way but it still looks and plays great. Lower graphical fidelity might also help make cloud gaming more viable as an actual way to play and enjoy games. As for PS5 Lite, no way Jimbo will go that route. I'm not even sure a slim model is in the cards right now if they are streamlining the PS5 production process.
@SplooshDmg
Well, I'm in the all-digital camp. Have been for a few years now, but I understand why others prefer physical games. I'd say both options you mentioned make sense for Sony. The pandemic high gaming companies and platform holders were riding is over and Sony seems to be upset with the fall in profits. As for MS, Series S has been a success story and allowed many less affluent gamers or those who like its compact size to play their games on newer hardware. Makes me wonder if there'll be a mid-gen upgrade (Xbox Series XL, PS5 PRO) or if due to the economic downturn we will be able to ride it out with the current hardware (like X360/PS3 era).
@SplooshDmg I get you. It's more or less the same with VR. Sony only allows their own goggles to be used, as opposed to PC. Money is obviously the reason and I agree that having a choice in this day and age is crucial. I bought an Elite Series 2 Core controller and love it. Not to bash the regular Xbox controller but the Elite is just that. Another Sony bs is the new console design where they basically tell you that the disc drive is an expensive option. I'm all for digital games but at the beginning of this gen they clearly said disc drives were here to stay. Then Jimbo talked to their accountants and backtracked on yet another thing. One of the reasons I quit on Sony, too.
@Dezzy70
Agree with you on all points and as much as I love the backwards compatibility my XSX gives me, I'd like for the devs to shift their focus to current gen now. Can't wait to be floored by FM8 and Hellblade 2.
@SplooshDmg
I'm glad you found your preferred option π As for my indecisiveness, part of the reason is that for the first time in my life I can afford all three major platforms and I kind of wanted to see what it's like to have them all. Let me tell you, it isn't fun. Money is one thing, time to play all those games is another. That and the fatigue with Sony's bs and game format led me to abandon it. If and when The Last of Us 3 and/or Uncharted 5 see the light of day I might consider buying a cheap used PS5 just to play those but honestly I'm hoping Sony comes up with its own cloud service (no, streaming just PS3 games doesn't count) so I can just stream them without buying the console.
@NEStalgia Yeah, what @SplooshDmg said π It's ok, even my friends look at me in disbelief or laugh at me for all these changes of heart, but now is the first time I actually feel good about my choice of platform. Guess I have to credit @Dezzy70 (and SplooshDmg as well). Sony dropped the ball on so many things this gen that I'm done with them. My XSX plus Switch will be more than enough. I also managed to talk my pal into switching my Vita for his Razer Kishi as I actually will have way more use for it now π
@SplooshDmg @Banjo- I think Phil said they're going to offer a choice: cloud or console, so I think everybody should be happy. I see the advantages of having a console. I love my Series X and always said it's a much better console in terms of design, cooling and features than the PS5. However, I can see Phil/MS having a change of heart. Consoles are really expensive to make and they might just go all-in on cloud gaming. We'll see. @NEStalgia I wouldn't expect a different opinion from someone from the big N camp π As for Max, anyone could be him. To quote the Joker: Madness is like gravity. All it takes is a little push π
@SplooshDmg So you see where I'm coming from. As for gaming and where it's going I'm starting to think my next gaming stop will not be a console but cloud gaming with Xbox/Microsoft and or a gaming PC. Thanks to GPU I really believe in cloud gaming as I've really found the experience positive, save for a few instances like racing games where stable 60 fps is mandatory.
@SplooshDmg
I know he is, but thanks for standing up for me π In my case, however, the truth is that I have been a Playstation guy since 2016 and have enjoyed their PS3/4/5 games to the point I got honestly bored of them. I'm not tied to any platform as I mostly look for new gaming experiences. Even tried PSVR and it's not for me (motion sickness). I considered switching back to PC gaming but it's way too expensive and inconvenient (I know it's subjective). There's something strangely soothing about just switching the console on and being in-game within 3 seconds (quick resume rocks!). I get the appeal of PC gaming though- one platform to rule them all. Especially with Sony exclusives making their way to PC finally.
@SplooshDmg No worries π If anything NES only made my resolve stronger. Also, I realised that my profile is terribly outdated so I'd say only good came out of it.

I get you.

@Dezzy70
Agree with you on all points and as much as I love the backwards compatibility my XSX gives me, I'd like for the devs to shift their focus to current gen now. Can't wait to be floored by FM8 and Hellblade 2.

@SplooshDmg

@NEStalgia
Yeah, what @SplooshDmg said π It's ok, even my friends look at me in disbelief or laugh at me for all these changes of heart, but now is the first time I actually feel good about my choice of platform.
Re: Xbox Series S Outsold The PlayStation 5 In Japan Last Week
@SplooshDmg @Banjo-
I think Phil said they're going to offer a choice: cloud or console, so I think everybody should be happy. I see the advantages of having a console. I love my Series X and always said it's a much better console in terms of design, cooling and features than the PS5.
However, I can see Phil/MS having a change of heart. Consoles are really expensive to make and they might just go all-in on cloud gaming. We'll see.
@NEStalgia
I wouldn't expect a different opinion from someone from the big N camp π As for Max, anyone could be him. To quote the Joker: Madness is like gravity. All it takes is a little push π
Re: Xbox Series S Outsold The PlayStation 5 In Japan Last Week
@SplooshDmg
So you see where I'm coming from.

@SplooshDmg

@SplooshDmg
No worries π If anything NES only made my resolve stronger. Also, I realised that my profile is terribly outdated so I'd say only good came out of it.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 24-25)
I'm playing FEAR 2 and Grid Legends. Don't know who is scarier: Alma or Ravenwest π
