Starfield. 70 hours in and still a lot left to do. Some Forza Horizon 3 on the side, but I'm buying Phantom Liberty and Separate Ways in 2-3 days so my next WAYP will prolly feature different titles.
Sigh. I've played through CP2077 5 times on 3 different platforms (yes, I love this game) so despite being engrossed in Starfield I will pick this up asap and start a 6th playthrough soonish. Kudos to CDPR for righting the ship, but (controversial opinion alert) I played the game on launch on XSX and didn't experience any serious bugs.
@ApostateMage This! I've just finished this storyline and to me it is almost on par with the Red Baron side quest in TW3. Yes, I'm serious. Loving Starfield (33 hours in).
Yup. Game took over my life and made me put BG3 on hold. It's going to take months before I even look at a different game (the only exception being WRC 23 in November).
I was one of those guys. Bought the GP Premium upgrade, put in 10 hours and knowing I will put in a few hundred more I bought the game on Steam. This coupled with Star Citizen tick all the boxes for my space explorer dream I've had since Mass Effect. Thanks Bethesda!
@GamingFan4Lyf I feel you. I miss those games too. Baldur's Gate 3 brought about this sort of nostalgia in me. Loved Fallout 1 and 2 back in the day (multiple playthroughs).
S.T.A.R.F.I.E.L.D. on PC with DLSS modded in. After a rocky start to the game (some fps issues) it runs and looks great. BG3 will have to wait, sadly, as it's an excellent game as well. Some Uncharted 1 on my PS5 for nostalgia kicks. But mostly Starfield. Mostly.
I may just play this at 2 am when Early Access launches. I did wait till midnight to play TLoU2 when it launched and it was very exciting. Got it preloaded and waiting.
Already midway through P3P on my Switch and had to put it on backburner due to Baldur's Gate 3 on my PC. Starfield comes out in two weeks (yup, getting the Day 5 edition on PC Game Pass). How does one fit all of the above in a schedule of a family man working two jobs...?
I'll be continuing my playthrough of The Last of Us Part 1 on PC with a bit of Forza Horizon 3 on the side. However, Baldur's Gate 3 has just finished downloading... Have a good one everybody!
@Cashews Enjoy Hellblade! It's such a gem. I recently played it in VR on PC and to me it's the best VR implementation of any game I've seen (yeah, including HL: Alyx).
@theduckofdeath I hear ya. I mean, what can you do? This year sure as hell is a good one for great games. I'll also be buying Forza Motorsport day 1 most likely so short of being fired or another pandemic happening, I don't know how I can possibly squeeze all three into my schedule. Oh, I know! I can sleep less lol.
I'll be there day one on PC (those who remember my posts from a while ago- don't ask how I got back into PC gaming lol). Then again I'm incredibly tempted to get Baldur's Gate 3 and I just don't know how I will find enough time to play both of these behemoths in parallel.
Both cult classics on PC, but I have to admit that watching the trailer all I could think about was how this reminded me of Bioshock Infinite. Seeing as there won't be a Bioshock 4 this is a good thing.
@Gollum
True that, sadly. One can dream, though. I'd like to think Phil has already browsed through their entire catalogue and highlighted at least some legacy games and IPs in their portfolio that could and should make a comeback. I believe he even made a statement on it a while ago.
@Gollum
While they are at it maybe they can also revive Soldier of Fortune and the Interstate series. I loved Interstate 76 back in 1997 ha! I wonder how many guys here even heard of it, let alone played it.
@NEStalgia Oh, I'm with you here. I'm looking at GF Now as well as a potential option for the future. The only thing stopping me is the poor games library. If and when they improve it, I will be there, if only to keep it an as option.
@NEStalgia All great points that I agree with 100%. I would still argue that a console mid-gen refresh is a lot cheaper and a lot less bothersome than upgrading a gpu or cpu in a PC. I will wait and see what these pro consoles are capable of and decide if it's worth the money and trouble. I don't have fond memories of PS4 PRO as it was a poorly designed machine with regard to how it handled intense games in the heat/noise department.
@themightyant Yeah, anything even close to 4K/60 and some light RT would be a success on mid--gen (or next gen) consoles. @HonestHick @BrilliantBill I get the desire to have to best possible hardware to game on, but take my word for it: PC gaming is not all it's cracked up to be. Sure, you can upgrade, but you have to invest a lot of money and need to have at least a basic knowledge of putting together a PC. Then there's the Windows resource hog, drivers issues etc. Consoles are still the best option for budget-conscious people and I have just come back to them from the PC so-called promised land and I won't be going the PC route again. I'd rather buy all 3 consoles and still be left with some spare cash, while just gaming without the hassle mentioned above. To each their own, of course.
@MaccaMUFC
It's a good question. We have reached a time when I'd say visual fidelity of games is at its peak and with each new gen the jump in it is smaller and smaller. Honestly, I'd rather consoles tried to aim at 1440p/ultra/60 or 1800p/high/60 with maybe some RTX like shadows and stuff. I mean, consoles are the gaming mainstream. They aren't for the so-called enthusiasts, which PC gamers are (and a minority of them game on cutting edge hardware too). I'm currently playing Shadow of TR on XsX and it looks and plays glorious. I'm actually shocked at how gorgeous this game is and how my XSX is capable of outputting such graphics while also being silent. Personally, I'd much rather have features like Quick Resume, Smart Delivery, auto HDR etc than better graphics, but that is not what hardware makers want us to think. I bet the Xbox Series XL will have: 8K/240 fps on its box, which will be another far-fetched claim, like 4K/120 is this gen.
@BrilliantBill Good points. However, if the PS5 gets pushed to its limits I sure hope it doesn't sound and act like PS4 PRO lol. I still have nightmares from playing GoW and TLoU2 on that thing.
@HonestHick
I get you, but it's a fallacy to think any console, no matter the config, will be a 4K/60 machine for longer than 2 years into its lifecycle. Hardware ages like milk, sadly and no matter what specs you're rocking it will stay that way. That's why streaming could one day take over. Imagine paying a sub for a service like Geforce Now and not having to worry about specs ever again. The only thing stopping me from subbing to it is the poor games library, but that can change quickly. One final example: my PC (bought it almost a year ago) went from being capable of running CP2077 at 1440p/60/RTX on ultra to being able to run CP2077 Phantom Liberty at 1080p/60/high/RTX on low. In a matter of one year, a drop like that. This pissed me off and led to my selling it and just sticking to consoles for the time being.
@BrilliantBill Well, Sony likes risk-taking, with mixed results. Their PSVR2 is starting to pop up on auction sites in Poland more and more, as the owners claim most have barely been used. Can't say I'm surprised if you think about how much Sony thinks it's worth. You are right about the most powerful console meaning little, if nothing at all. PS2 was weaker than Xbox but it crushed it with software. The Switch has been the weakest console on the market for years, yet it is hugely successful. However, I suspect most games are still optimised for Playstation as it sells better than Xbox, so that is definitely one of the reasons.
@Nightcrawler71
Not happening. That beast of a console would have to be about $1000 and that's not going to fly in console territory IMO. I've just sold my gaming PC with a Ryzen 7, RTX 3070 and 32 GB of RAM and I could play CP2077 at 1440p/60 with RTX on ultra and my PC was sweating bullets, generating a lot of noise and heat. The console folks have little idea just how taxing RTX is on the GPU and the hardware in general. Also, aside from a select few titles like CP2077 it just isn't worth the cost. Not to mention that Xbox would have to partner with nVidia as only their RTX cards handle RTX due to DLSS. As MS prefers AMD (cause their GPUs are cheaper) I don't see this happening.
Edit: that PC cost me $1200.
@Kaloudz It is and it's also on Game Pass. It's certainly better than NFS, but not nearly the masterpiece the original Grid (2008) was. Take Grid Legends career mode, mash it with WRC 8-10 team management mechanics and call it Forza lol
@Kaloudz You could be onto something here. I actually really liked Grid Legends career mode and something similar but more Forza would be great if done right.
@Solidchief I mean, I get that the PS folk will pay for it gladly as RDR has been stuck on PS3 for ages now (where it looks terrible, I know as I've first played it there) but for Xbox it seems like a cash grab. Let's see the extent of the upgrades, but I am wary of Rockstar's remasters after the GTA trilogy debacle
Just to echo the guys above me in the comments section: unnecesssary. RDR2 looks amazing and only needs a 60 fps patch. As for RDR, Xbox is the best platform for this game as I was blown away by the visuals on it thanks to the XOX enhancements. Got both and won't be buying the remakes (tired of them at this point).
@Titntin Haha, thanks! Yeah, I absolutely agree about no 4 being the best one. It was also my first one, so that could be a factor. I'm loving no 3 right now due to the amazing setting and the premise that is different from FH4 and 5. I got FH2 for the setting alone hah. I do wonder where Horizon goes from here and the series could definitely use a shake up.
While disappointing, it will give me a chance to finish my Forza Horizon backwards binge. Started with 4, then 5, then 4 again. Currently on 3 (loving it, wasn't a fan of 5) and got FH2 in the mail π I'll will be keeping my eye on this one, but it will be tough to top FH.
For me it's Shadow of the Tomb Raider on XSX (which rocks, by the way) and on Switch it's Persona 3. Especially Tomb Raider is, like, the perfect game to play in the summer. Have a good one guys and gals!
@FenIsMightier
I guess you are in a very small minority as far as your feelings towards Starfield are concerned. I was very underwhelmed by that Spiderman 2 gameplay trailer as just more of the same stuff that Arkham games did better years ago IMO. I finished the game on PS4 PRO and don't feel like playing part 2 at all. Still, I get why many people like this game (franchise) and I bet way more people will like Starfield as opposed to those who won't. Starfield on PC is actually pretty cheap if you don't buy it from Steam directly.
@StonyKL
Haha. Good comparison, but I've always been a Magpies fan π Still remember when I was in Newcastle in the summer of 2004 when news broke out that Patrick Kluivert was about to join the team. What a mess this turned out to be lol. Now Newcastle is City 2.0 lol. It's really nice to see PS5 and Xbox folk living here in harmony and just enjoying gaming, instead of spreading console wars π
@BrilliantBill
It all depends on how much you value graphics and performance. IMO Series S is a great little machine for the price. It looks nice, it's small and silent under load (something I love about my Series X too). Yes, it is slightly worse in the graphics department but it's not a huge gap. I actually compared FH4 on both Series consoles and while Series X does make it look better, it still looks and plays great on Series S. One unknown is the future. Series S already is starting to be held back by its hardware. However if it really can output Starfield at 1440p/30 I will be impressed. Long storh short- if it's a second console (your main being PS5, for example) go for it. If not, get a Series X π
@Fiendish-Beaver Thanks mate, but I've kind of been here since November 2020 π Bought a Series X at launch, only to replace it a year later with a PS5 and Series S combo. A year later I got a gaming PC and a Switch. Last week I sold that PC and now I have a Series X and a Switch lol. A journeyman here, for sure. Still, I really like the Series X and got rid of my PC because of the hassle you spoke of.
@themightyant I suppose MS will be happy with a spike, however small or short. The last year and a half has been a dry spell for Xbox. Game Pass subs will likely see a spike as well, so all things considered it should be enough for MS to call it a success.
@themightyant @Fiendish-Beaver They already have! I actually re-bought a Series X, mostly for Starfield, but not only that. The Xbox Showcase made me a believer again. Also, a couple of prominent Push Square guys have publicly admitted to buying a Series X as well, Starfield being the reason.
@RetroMan71
Good to know I am not the only heretic here haha. I've always wanted to try it, but heard it's intimidating in how long it takes to beat etc. Since it's on GP I figured I only have my time to lose and it's summer, so... Yeah.
@Titntin If you check out the last few articles on here you will see that he takes advantage of every single opportunity to lash out at MS/Xbox. I'm just tired of this old trope that PS Plus dunks on GWG which is used by PS fans, that is a just a way of bashing Xbox, veiled in sarcasm. Everyone and their mother know that GwG has been getting progressively worse over time and it's GP where the value is at. That's all.
@Suda52 Another post from you bashing Xbox. Wow. I'd rather try Darkwood than the samey CoD or a game I played 10 years ago on PC (the remaster changes little for me).

So kinda like The Witcher 3, which took me about 80 hours and I ignored most question marks. It doesn't sound so bad. Thanks mate!

Good to know I am not the only heretic here haha. I've always wanted to try it, but heard it's intimidating in how long it takes to beat etc. Since it's on GP I figured I only have my time to lose and it's summer, so... Yeah.

That's cool. I've only just installed Skyrim from Game Pass. My first playthrough, as well.

If you check out the last few articles on here you will see that he takes advantage of every single opportunity to lash out at MS/Xbox. I'm just tired of this old trope that PS Plus dunks on GWG which is used by PS fans, that is a just a way of bashing Xbox, veiled in sarcasm. Everyone and their mother know that GwG has been getting progressively worse over time and it's GP where the value is at. That's all.

Another post from you bashing Xbox. Wow. I'd rather try Darkwood than the samey CoD or a game I played 10 years ago on PC (the remaster changes little for me).
