CrossfireX is slipping under the radar a bit, which is understandable, given how packed February is. However, this news has certainly piqued our interest.
When the upcoming shooter launches on February 10th, one of Remedy Entertainment's campaigns will be free on Xbox Game Pass. Yep, one whole FPS campaign at no extra cost.
To clear things up, the structure of this game is a little odd. Basically, Crossfire's core developer Smilegate is making the multiplayer, which will be free-to-play. Then, for the Xbox release, Alan Wake developer Remedy has been drafted in to create the single-player mode.
It's now clear that the single-player will be split into two campaigns, Operation Catalyst and Operation Spectre. The former will be free on Game Pass, while Spectre is available as a paid add-on.
CrossfireX's 'Ultimate Package', which contains both campaigns, a season 1 battle pass and a golden gatling gun skin, is now up for pre-order and pre-load. Surprisingly, it's only $30 RRP, and it currently has a $5 discount too.
The original Crossfire is 15 years old this year, and it's huge in Asian markets. The gameplay is very reminiscent of Valve's Counter-Strike, but perhaps a little more forgiving.

Honestly my expectations are super low for this as we've heard almost nothing. It's got cash grab/dialled in written all over it. But I look forward to giving one of the campaigns a go on Game Pass and finding out.
@Alduin H:FW can be had for £52 or less on many stores (Free PD4-> PS5 upgrade) https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09FBFDKZZ
So half of the campaign is coming GamePass? That’s a bit odd.
Remedy is enough for me to try it at least. Also, thank you for writing the word 'piqued' correctly. It's rare to see on the internet these days.
This release is so odd lol. At first they made it clear that it was only free to play multiplayer and then campaign wouldn't be in game pass...
...now the campaign is split in two and only the first is coming to game pass. At one point Microsoft was listed as the publisher but that slowly was removed from the Xbox website. Again...just weird.
I'll try the campaign for sure, don't know if I'll buy it, though. Cautiously optimistic. I like Remedy but concerned that we haven't heard much.
@Alduin Commiserations on the all digital future
To be honest I considered it but the prices are so uncompetitive day 1. Especially on Team Blue! I generally buy Day 1 disc and everything else digital where I can.
@Tarps None of it breeds confidence. Xbox not publishing, Remedy not marketing it, splitting into 2 - one free, one paid DLC.
I'm expecting Remedy's B-team effort on this one, but with low expectations there's a chance to be surprised.
Wait, wait. they are splitting campaigns up now... and only putting one half on Game Pass? Trash. GP is turning into just an indie show. Every AAA offering is complete garbage in one form or another.
Does the campaign have online co op or is it strictly single player?
