Re: Microsoft Is Pushing Xbox's Phil Spencer To Think About Succession

blinx01

I'd like to think Phil Spencer still has another 10 years in the tank before he retires.
If Sarah Bond is still at Xbox/MS when that happens, she would be perfect to take over.
She's a gamer herself, very passionate about gaming and inclusion, and has led the Game Pass side of things and recently struck the partnership deal with SEGA, so she's already building relationships with these big external companies.

Re: Rumour: Halo Infinite's Multiplayer Could Shadow Drop Next Week

blinx01

I can see it happening.
COD and Battlefield are way off form from what I've played of both. No need for MS to be running scared from them.
Halo Infinite multiplayer is F2P, so won't cause any issues with retailers if they shadow drop it on Monday.
They can then focus the marketing on the campaign and Game Pass aspect over the coming weeks.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy The Forza Horizon 5 Premium Add-Ons Bundle?

blinx01

Yep.
I'd buy the DLC anyway based on the quality of the previous games, so the early access and anything else is an added bonus.
I'll probably buy the actual game as well when it's on sales later down the line to complete the full package.

Only played a couple of hours so far of the game, but it's been stunning both graphically and gameplay.
That opening segment dropping the cars in the different biomes is a real jaw dropper with how smoothly it transitions as well.

Re: Bethesda Reveals Upgrade Prices For Skyrim Anniversary Edition

blinx01

I think people are getting confused with how this update works.

For free, if you own the game or have Game Pass, you get the next-gen update with 4 Creation Club content additions.
If you want the rest of the Creation Club content, you pay that £15.99 / $19.99 upgrade fee.

Now bare in mind, a lot of this content is made by fans that are approved by Bethesda to sell through the Creation Club, so that upgrade fee will no doubt be partially going to these creators.

Re: SEGA And Microsoft Partner Up To Bring Next-Gen Games Via The Cloud

blinx01

At first, I thought cool, it's like the Sony deal, so no benefit for Xbox, but nice to see SEGA evolving.
But then I saw Sarah Bond is leading the talks for this and she stated on Twitter she looks forward to sharing more info in the future.
So now I'm thinking maybe this is more than sharing Azure tech and could involve some sort of EA Play style deal, where maybe SEGA games come to Game Pass later after release and start to form a library, maybe involving some revivals of older IP that are more suited to Game Pass rather than relying purely on game sales.

Re: Bethesda Details Everything Coming To Skyrim Anniversary Edition

blinx01

@themightyant
The Creation Club stuff contains paid content from community creators that have to be pre-approved by Bethesda.
They get paid for their work, so I have a feeling that's why this 'Anniversary Edition' will be a paid upgrade, as the community creators will get a cut of sales for their work being included.

Re: Bethesda Details Everything Coming To Skyrim Anniversary Edition

blinx01

So to cleat this up for people, in Game Pass, you'll get;

  • Next gen upgrade
  • Saints & Seducers
  • Rare Curios
  • Survival Mode
  • Fishing

Now if you want the full Skyrim Anniversary Edition, which includes all the Creation Club content, Pete Hines said on Twitter there will be an option for Game Pass users to pay a upgrade fee, think like the Forza Horizon 5 Game Pass Ultimate Edition fee. No pricing on this right now.

Re: Is Age Of Empires 4 Coming To Xbox?

blinx01

Hell, even if they did a early access version that was only keyboard and mouse, that would be enough.
They are literally sitting on a very well reviewed first party game that isn't even available on console, yet being branded as an Xbox game.
Yes, I know Xbox is now an ecosystem of console, PC and cloud, but it's only available on one of those.
Big opportunity missed in my opinion.

Re: Halo Infinite Comparison Shows Major Improvements From 2020 To 2021

blinx01

@BAMozzy
Well, the promo stuff they've done for Forza Horizon 5 has all been on Series X.
Considering the PC performance for the Halo Infinite flight test left a lot to be desired, I'd say this trailer is probably running on Series X as well, since the performance on that was rock solid during the last flight.

Re: Halo Infinite Gets New PC Trailer, AMD Revealed As Exclusive Partner

blinx01

I can understand why they've partnered with AMD due to the console aspect, but if they were serious about PC, they'd have DLSS support.
I don't think any MS game has featured that yet, unless you want to count Deathloop that has recently added it in a patch.

Also, no ray tracing at launch is VERY disappointing.

Re: Xbox Game Pass Continues Impressive Growth, But Misses Yearly Target

blinx01

We need to remember these targets were set during a pandemic where gaming was having a massive surge. They also had Halo Infinite down as a launch title. That got delayed 12 months and as the pandemic eased, the gaming surge ended.
The only big day one titles they had on the service were Outriders and MLB The Show.
It will be interesting to see the growth from July-Dec when they've pretty much had a big day one release each month.

Re: Xbox Exec Admits PlayStation Has Been 'Out In Front' With A 'Certain Kind Of Game'

blinx01

As someone who owns a PS5 and Series X, the thing Xbox has in their favour is a strong variety of genres.
They need to continue to lean into that and not try to emulate PlayStation.

I'm hyped for Horizon FW and GoW Ragnarok, but GT7 doesn't look to have caught up with Forza and R&C: Rift Apart, while visually stunning, didn't hold a candle to the story telling or platforming of Psychonauts 2.

Re: Phil Spencer Again Reiterates That Xbox Is 'Not Done' With Acquisitions

blinx01

The thing is MS needs to continue expanding the Game Pass subs with more day one games.
So by that logic, it makes no sense to buy studios that put out limited amounts of games every few years, they need another publisher like Bethesda.

In an ideal world, the WB Games studios would be perfect as they cover a variety of genres Xbox needs such as child friendly games, fighters, 3rd person action games etc. The main problem with that is a lot are licensed games, which could cause issues.

If that wasn't a possibility, then another great one would be SEGA due to appealing to the Eastern and Western audience. They also own a good portfolio of PC studios, which fits Xbox's strategy.

To me, those are the only realistic 'big' publishers that could be willing to sell.
Square Enix or Capcom would also be superb, but to me, the chances of either of those are extremely slim.
