They desperately need to add XP for just completing matches. Even if it's a small amount.
As an OG Halo fan, I have no interest in messing around doing challenges. If I get them playing naturally, then fair enough. I simply want to hop in and enjoy the multiplayer with friends and get rewarded with XP while doing so.
I think it's one of those situations. The game is probably wasting server resources considering its age, but how would it look if they turned off PlayStation and left Xbox on due to BC support? Crappy situation regardless, but the game is over 12 years old.
I think we all knew this would be delayed considering how jammed February is looking. Quite surprised it's August, but better to take the time it needs and hopefully not get overshadowed by other games.
Funny how the media are still asking this question, but also embracing for them at the same time. You don't spend $7.5 billion to continue making multi-formats.
I'd like to think Phil Spencer still has another 10 years in the tank before he retires. If Sarah Bond is still at Xbox/MS when that happens, she would be perfect to take over. She's a gamer herself, very passionate about gaming and inclusion, and has led the Game Pass side of things and recently struck the partnership deal with SEGA, so she's already building relationships with these big external companies.
I think it's just an emulation update. Games like Kameo, AC, Sonic Generations, FF13 etc...they all are already X enhanced. So unless they are also adding FPS Boost to them, then I'd temper expectations...
As an owner of both consoles, they've both done a great job during the first 12 months. PS5 smashed the first 6 months and now Xbox is smashing the last 6 months. Great time to be an owner of both consoles!
I can see it happening. COD and Battlefield are way off form from what I've played of both. No need for MS to be running scared from them. Halo Infinite multiplayer is F2P, so won't cause any issues with retailers if they shadow drop it on Monday. They can then focus the marketing on the campaign and Game Pass aspect over the coming weeks.
They aren't going to uproot Sony or Nintendo but they can certainly at least make a good dent. Game Pass and xCloud will definitely help make that a reality. They just need to keep a steady flow of Japanese content hitting Game Pass and try to implement touch controls for these on xCloud for mobile/tablet play.
Yep. I'd buy the DLC anyway based on the quality of the previous games, so the early access and anything else is an added bonus. I'll probably buy the actual game as well when it's on sales later down the line to complete the full package.
Only played a couple of hours so far of the game, but it's been stunning both graphically and gameplay. That opening segment dropping the cars in the different biomes is a real jaw dropper with how smoothly it transitions as well.
To be expected considering the multiplayer is F2P. This is how games like Fornite and Apex make their money. I'm just glad the Battle Passes don't expire. As an extra bonus, you could even get the Battle Passes for free if you're someone who does MS Rewards.
I think people are getting confused with how this update works.
For free, if you own the game or have Game Pass, you get the next-gen update with 4 Creation Club content additions. If you want the rest of the Creation Club content, you pay that £15.99 / $19.99 upgrade fee.
Now bare in mind, a lot of this content is made by fans that are approved by Bethesda to sell through the Creation Club, so that upgrade fee will no doubt be partially going to these creators.
I'll enjoy San Andreas thanks to Game Pass and wait for a sale to buy the rest of the collection. Far to many games out or coming out to care about these remasters right now!
I've jumped on this myself. I'd buy the DLC anyway, and I can always purchase the actual game further down the line when it goes on sale if need be to complete the set. Hope they do something similar like this for Halo Infinite.
The BETA was very rough. I was going to pre-order, but that put me well off. I'll check this trial out and see if they've managed to improve it enough to buy.
I am VERY surprised the game isn't optimized for Series X/S. We saw that Ray Tracing demo running on Series X hardware last year, but nothing ever came of it. I wonder if Mojang are too spread too thin supporting new content for various platforms? Who knows...
At first, I thought cool, it's like the Sony deal, so no benefit for Xbox, but nice to see SEGA evolving. But then I saw Sarah Bond is leading the talks for this and she stated on Twitter she looks forward to sharing more info in the future. So now I'm thinking maybe this is more than sharing Azure tech and could involve some sort of EA Play style deal, where maybe SEGA games come to Game Pass later after release and start to form a library, maybe involving some revivals of older IP that are more suited to Game Pass rather than relying purely on game sales.
If it's an early access bundle with added DLC/Battle Passes like FH5, I'll gladly buy it. I can always buy the actual game so I own the complete package later down the line when it's on sale.
@themightyant The Creation Club stuff contains paid content from community creators that have to be pre-approved by Bethesda. They get paid for their work, so I have a feeling that's why this 'Anniversary Edition' will be a paid upgrade, as the community creators will get a cut of sales for their work being included.
So to cleat this up for people, in Game Pass, you'll get;
Next gen upgrade
Saints & Seducers
Rare Curios
Survival Mode
Fishing
Now if you want the full Skyrim Anniversary Edition, which includes all the Creation Club content, Pete Hines said on Twitter there will be an option for Game Pass users to pay a upgrade fee, think like the Forza Horizon 5 Game Pass Ultimate Edition fee. No pricing on this right now.
That message reads as; "Thanks for buying our game at full price at launch and having the honour of bug testing for us. Please send detailed reports to help fix our game that we clearly didn't quality test properly before we sold it to you. Kind regards, Ubisoft. x" LOL
Hell, even if they did a early access version that was only keyboard and mouse, that would be enough. They are literally sitting on a very well reviewed first party game that isn't even available on console, yet being branded as an Xbox game. Yes, I know Xbox is now an ecosystem of console, PC and cloud, but it's only available on one of those. Big opportunity missed in my opinion.
@BlueOcean I grabbed it myself to show my support. Digital-only release right now at I think £31.99. It's games like this that Koei Tecmo usually skip Xbox, so hopefully enough people get behind it so they continue support for the platform.
Don't know why they couldn't get this on console. Jurassic World: Evolution 2 is coming day one to consoles with controller AND keyboard and mouse support.
@BAMozzy Well, the promo stuff they've done for Forza Horizon 5 has all been on Series X. Considering the PC performance for the Halo Infinite flight test left a lot to be desired, I'd say this trailer is probably running on Series X as well, since the performance on that was rock solid during the last flight.
@Chaudy Days Gone isn't in GeForce Now. You can't play your entire Steam library. It's basically like Game Pass and xCloud where you can only stream a select library of games if you own them. The only Sony game supported is Death Stranding.
@themightyant Yes, I mean in terms of first party titles. Xbox covers a great variety of genres, which to me, is a strength they need to lean into. If they start trying to emulate PlayStation with focusing too much on 3rd person narrative action games, they won't compete, simple as. PlayStation has nailed that genre and can't be challenged in my opinion.
I can understand why they've partnered with AMD due to the console aspect, but if they were serious about PC, they'd have DLSS support. I don't think any MS game has featured that yet, unless you want to count Deathloop that has recently added it in a patch.
Also, no ray tracing at launch is VERY disappointing.
In terms of UK pricing, expect them to just change the $ sign to £. The 1TB card retails for $219.99 in the US before tax. It's £220 RRP here in the UK, although regularly on offer here for less than that. I managed to get the 1TB card a few weeks back from Amazon for £150, which to me is a fair price.
We need to remember these targets were set during a pandemic where gaming was having a massive surge. They also had Halo Infinite down as a launch title. That got delayed 12 months and as the pandemic eased, the gaming surge ended. The only big day one titles they had on the service were Outriders and MLB The Show. It will be interesting to see the growth from July-Dec when they've pretty much had a big day one release each month.
As someone who owns a PS5 and Series X, the thing Xbox has in their favour is a strong variety of genres. They need to continue to lean into that and not try to emulate PlayStation.
I'm hyped for Horizon FW and GoW Ragnarok, but GT7 doesn't look to have caught up with Forza and R&C: Rift Apart, while visually stunning, didn't hold a candle to the story telling or platforming of Psychonauts 2.
The thing is MS needs to continue expanding the Game Pass subs with more day one games. So by that logic, it makes no sense to buy studios that put out limited amounts of games every few years, they need another publisher like Bethesda.
In an ideal world, the WB Games studios would be perfect as they cover a variety of genres Xbox needs such as child friendly games, fighters, 3rd person action games etc. The main problem with that is a lot are licensed games, which could cause issues.
If that wasn't a possibility, then another great one would be SEGA due to appealing to the Eastern and Western audience. They also own a good portfolio of PC studios, which fits Xbox's strategy.
To me, those are the only realistic 'big' publishers that could be willing to sell. Square Enix or Capcom would also be superb, but to me, the chances of either of those are extremely slim.
If handled by the right team, this game could really take off thanks to Game Pass. The 2013 game just came a little too soon and was ruined by the F2P stripped down model fighters were adopting at the time.

I think Xbox will be making some big money off these Battle Passes if even a fraction of the player base makes a purchase.

No.
It was confirmed prior that it is a paid title and part of the battle pass for the F2P multiplayer element.
