Activision has officially released the install sizes for Call of Duty: Vanguard's launch on November 5th, and despite the COD series being known for ridiculous file sizes in recent years, Vanguard is not too bad at all to start with!
On Xbox One, you're looking at a download of 56.6GB, while Xbox Series X and Series S clock in a little higher at 61GB. Some Xbox owners have suggested it could go up to 72.6GB on Xbox Series X, however.
Here are the official download sizes and required space details for all consoles:
- PlayStation 5
- 64.13 GB Download | 89.84 GB Required Space
- PlayStation 4
- 54.65 GB Download | 93.12 GB Required Space
- Xbox Series X|S
- 61 GB Download | 61 GB Required Space
- Xbox One
- 56.6 GB Download | 56.6 GB Required Space
The reason for the smaller file sizes at launch is because Activision is utilising "new on-demand texture streaming tech", which means the team at Sledgehammer Games can achieve "up to 30% - 50%+ of a file size difference".
Pre-loading has now begun for those who have bought the game, and you should also be able to download it via the Xbox mobile app even if you haven't pre-ordered Vanguard yet. This time next week, we'll be able to start playing!

It's about time they finally put effort into compressing their games. Well, technically it's way passed the time, but that's beside the point I guess.
Those PlayStation numbers are a little odd though given that they are higher, which shouldn't be, especially on PS5. Games are basically never bigger on PS5 because of their hard drive and compression.
Of course, unless the campaign is really good, I could care less about the game. The campaign is the only reason I bothered with Cold War.
Haven't played Call of Duty since Black Ops 4, I remember the massive regular updates used to really annoy me. Would take forever to download them
Maybe they finally stopped including Warzone with the installation. It always annoyed me how forced that was.
I wish forza horizon was like this.... Been downloading since Sunday and with my trash internet im still downloading at 60%
This is out 5 November? Sorry, I’ll be too busy playing Forza Horizon 5!
Probably helps that it visually looks worse than Modern Warfare 2019 too...
Wasnt buying this anyway. As my multiplayer friend base is on PS, even less of a reason
61 to start, 397gb by the end of next year through pointless updates and forced Warzone crap
@JayJ I wish they'd remove it from modern warfare having to update everytime they update cold war & warzone when all I want to do is play the game I payed for is really rage inducing
@Would_you_kindly They ruined that game with Warzone integration! It's sad because I thought that was one of the best COD's in recent years, but it's sadly unplayable now and it's been that way for a long time.
I mean literally the entire game has been shoved off to the side in the form of optional extra DLC packs that you gotta download in order to do anything with the game. Heck the icon for the game is the same as Warzone, Modern Warfare went from being just a little side note to being removed entirely from it's own icon.
The worst thing about all this is how I never once had any interest in playing Warzone. Despite how much they have forced it upon me, I simply don't care for it and wish they just kept it as it's own stand-alone launcher completely separate from the rest of their games.
@Microbius call of duty isn’t on gamepass
@JayJ yeah I've got it installed on my PS4 & it doesn't even say modern warfare just call of duty warzone it's ridiculous put me off buying any more cod's
@Would_you_kindly Yeah if they finally got rid of Warzone I might reconsider it, but that has really left a bad impression with me. I got Cold War for my Series X and it's been a lot smoother, at least they didn't split the content up into DLC packs, but it takes up over 200GB because of Warzone.
@Rmg0731
The game features cross-play, meaning you can play with your friends on PS4/5 even if you're on Xbox.
My cross gen copy of Cold War requires both versions to be installed and takes up 300gb… so this is a good move at least. Not sure I’ll pick this one up though.
