Square Enix has announced the sixth entry in its long-running action RPG series, Star Ocean.
It's officially titled Star Ocean: The Divine Force and will be coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One in 2022. It's developed by tri-Ace Inc. and will transport players to an expansive fantasy sci-fi world. Here they'll experience an exhilarating journey, featuring fast-paced combat, rich exploration and an original story.
Here's some PR from Square Enix:
"STAR OCEAN THE DIVINE FORCE will tell a gripping story that seamlessly melds science fiction and fantasy elements and can be enjoyed by newcomers to the series and veterans alike. The game features dual protagonists, which offer different story perspectives and gameplay experiences: Raymond, the captain of the space trading ship, Ydas, and Laeticia, the princess-knight of a kingdom on an underdeveloped planet. Fate will bring Raymond, Laeticia, and several other ally characters together, all designed by renowned artist Akiman (STAR OCEAN: Integrity and Faithlessness, STREET FIGHTER series)."
This announcement also happens to line up with the 25th anniversary of the Star Ocean series this year. Would you be interested in playing the sixth Star Ocean entry on Xbox in 2022? Comment down below.

Definitely happy StarOcean is heading back to Xbox. Hopefully this gets a lot more work to it.
I watched the State of Play and got interested on this one, so I'm happy it's coming to Xbox.
This looks ridiculously weeb, but it did spark my interest.
Happy to see more JRPG's coming to Xbox day one along with other consoles.
Makes a nice change from Xbox always missing out on these.
Looks pretty good, in my opinion !
I'm still in love with Star Ocean 3, one of the biggest shocks of my PS2 years !
The environments look pretty, but the character design is just awful. I’m going to have to watch some more gameplay to decide if this is for me or not.
@JoakimZ Agreed! The combat, environments and Xenoblade style worlds look lovely. The characters look like melted waxworks by comparison. They just don't fit the new HD aesthetic.
Really looking forward to this game and was a surprise from last night's state of play, tbf star ocean games have "unique" art style when it comes to character design
Saw many people saying it looks cheap but I liked it. However I never played a star oceano but also saw many saying the latest entries in the series have been weak só let's see.
Never played the older games because I was buying one of them on PS2 and the guy at GameStop warned me that the battle system was a bit of a pain. I'm pretty sure it was a Star Ocean game... Anyway, this doesn't look too daunting and the world looks interesting (it's not 100% inappropriate to compare it to XCX as I believe the team that does the XC games did Xenogears and who knows what else at SE). So, yeah, I'm kind of liking the way this looks.
From the experience i've had with a couple of entries so far from the series i'd say i'm interested but not to the point that i'd spend money on it. At least not at full price. I think this is a perfect game for GP.
Looks interesting. I'll give this a go.
Im just gonna buy it on Xbox to support games on Xbox
@IronMan30 If you're talking about Monolith Soft, they are known for Xenogears (PS1), Xenosaga I-III (PS2), and Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii/WiiU/Switch). Nintendo bought them sometime after Xenosaga III on the PS2.
Another Japanese game for Xbox yes!
With this, Tales of Arise, and FFVII Remake, it's nice to see JRPG's getting with the times in terms of graphics. They're finally not looking like PS3 games anymore! Now all Japan needs to do is evolve their anime style. I swear I've been playing as the same characters for 30 years.
@sakanakami I am and I know.
Looks rough but I’ll track it’s progress.
Star Ocean has gone ridiculously downhill. The last PS4 one was incredibly mediocre. But I'm still excited to see Square supporting Xbox with new JRPGs. Maybe the series will return to form this time.
Really happy about this.
