It was Xbox's turn to celebrate the one year anniversary of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S this past Wednesday, and now Sony is doing the same thing with the PlayStation 5 today - first released on November 12th, 2020.
In a post on Twitter, PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst thanked the fans "for making the first year of PS5 so special", and this prompted Xbox boss Phil Spencer to chip in, congratulating the team on a "great first year".
Spencer and Hulst are no strangers to interacting with each other publicly, with Hulst most recently praising the release of Psychonauts 2, congratulating Xbox and Double Fine on the launch as well as the game's "great reception".
It's always nice to see the two brands interacting like this, and it'll undoubtedly continue in the future!

Both these companies have done well to get millions of consoles out during the pandemic and the main first wave of production took place when covid was at its worst, I fully expect year 2 and 3 to be amazing from these companies as everything resumes to normal

See once agree people proving that console wars are sill and stupid. But one year in and still cant find either system
Phil is a class act. Never change, P3.
These two goliath companies will push each other to the extremes of quality and we the gamers will reap the rewards. Ultimately however, I feel the future has been paved the way for Xbox, they're immense wealth and forward thinking ideas will become supreme. Even now, Sony seeking PC players as a means to reach more people is testament to the long arm of MS.
Deep pockets, high end cloud technology and profits sought in different areas as opposed to limited to one division is simply why Xbox will eventually take the crown.
That said, Sony won't sleep, it's a mighty Dragon with mighty talents and will do what it needs to in order to maintain its throne. I expect bigger exclusives some that will upset Xbox players, I imagine them loading the big guns like Metal gear, I also imagine them acquiring more studios the likes that will leave Xbox gasping. Yet Xbox will rise to the challenge.
Fable
Elder scrolls
Starfield
Doom
Wolfienstein
Games from obsidian, Inexile, ID, and more.
The western RPG market is mostly owned by Xbox. Imagine when they come to gamepass.
Things will get bigger and bigger and both companies will offer titanic games.
What a wonderful time to have an Xbox
Playstation had the start of the generation, but Xbox definitely won in 2021. Microsoft offered more games, more announcements, better price policy, better services, better communication with fans. Ironically, the release of Halo to the start would have no meaning, because consoles are not there.
Competition is a beautiful thing, just earlier i was reading how playstation has 25 first party games in development. It feels like we are back to the 360 generation again. Both companies are right at it. Its wonderful
Close competition means upping their game. Ends up in quality which benefits all gamers in the end.
Cant have one company running away with it.
Both have had a great year nobody can doubt. Don't care for the ones who did better. They both did right by their fanbase one way or another and the last 12 months have had me more excited about gaming than I have felt in a long time. We have a great lineup on both sides of the fence and I intend to (try to) play them all.
@uptownsoul So how did I manage to get one then?
Behave. I know you like to stir the ***** but maybe have a glass of water and get some air
If anyone is so serious about getting an Xbox series x or PS5 you can. Don’t get me wrong you have to be really on the ball but I have been successful with both and also about 4 of each for family and friends.
Yes I’m precise and so persistent but it can be done.
By the way all officially from shops in the UK.
So that’s 10 next generation consoles I have purchased in a year half PS5 half Series X it’s not in possible.
@uptownsoul Dude I've seen your comments. You know exactly what you're doing.
And yeah you are incorrect.
But I won't get into it with you because that's what you're about. Instead of stirring up *****, focus on yourself
Banging on about price hikes and how people are being hypocritical by not condemning Xbox on exclusivity. You're such a troll. How freaking sad
summoning Elton John Caaaaaaaaaaan you feeeeeel...The Looooooooove...Toniiiiiiiight
@uptownsoul Naaah, you need to be called out on your dilebrate baiting
As someone who owns a Series X and a PS5 and thinks they’re both great Consoles, I love to see this.
Positive interactions between them (and Nintendo execs too) are good because A) We need all the platform holders doing well. Competition benefits us, the consumer. And B) it might help dilute the idiotic fanboy wars that are still now raging, and polluting, a maturing industry.
I bought both a PS5 and a Series X so I think its great that they can congratulate and acknowledge the others contributions to a 'great' year for gaming in a very difficult time riddled with delays and setbacks....
Whether you own both or just 1, you can't say either has disappointed with their games overall and have games to look forward to in the near future as well. Both going to have games that justify their decision to buy their platform of choice or, like me, benefit by having the opportunity to play all.
Yes they are now very different in their business model and some will still focus purely on 'Xbox' as a Console rather than 'Xbox' the entire gaming side of MS (hence Xbox on Win10/11, Xbox Game Pass on Mobile, Xbox Studio's, Xbox Publishing...) vs PS which is just ridiculous. It would be great if Fanboys could learn from these positive interactions from 'opposing' sides who play each others games too!!!
Perfect, they need to co-exist 👍 making each other better = a win for gamers!
As an owner of both consoles, they've both done a great job during the first 12 months.
PS5 smashed the first 6 months and now Xbox is smashing the last 6 months.
Great time to be an owner of both consoles!
@electrolite77 you're hallucinating. Nintendo execs don't interact with others. The Nintendo Vault is forever sealed.
@NEStalgia
Yeah I put it in brackets as I was hesitant 😀
Bowser definitely congratulated the other two on the PS5/Series X launches but I can’t remember anything since. Probably got reprimanded for stepping out of line. Not company policy
@electrolite77 Yeah, Bowser did the formality thing and did give Phil that switch on his shelf.... But nothing after that. And that's the regional sales office, it's like PlayStation Europe speaking for PlayStation. NCL has never congratulated anyone anywhere!
