We've got some bad news, as CD Projekt Red has confirmed today that the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions of both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 will now be launching in 2022 instead of 2021.
In a report published earlier today, it was explained that "based on recommendations supplied by persons supervising development, it has [been] decided to allocate additional time to both projects." The next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 will now launch in the first quarter of 2022, and The Witcher 3 in the second quarter of 2022.
None of us are probably too surprised by the delay to Cyberpunk 2077, but The Witcher 3 does seem a little unexpected, given that the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S versions of the game were rated by PEGI earlier this week.
Ultimately, we're all just going to have to wait a little longer to get hands-on with those free next-gen upgrades.
What are your thoughts on the delay to Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 on Xbox Series X|S? Tell us below.

Maybe Witcher 3 delayed cause putting in microtransactions?
Sigh, here I am, probably the only person who has The Witcher 3 in his library that hasn't played it yet because he's waiting for that next-gen upgrade. Ohwell, FH5 it is then.
Surprised not! Shame as I was waiting for the upgrade to play. Plenty more in the backlog to play.
Oh so why I wrote yesterday on this thread

is sadly true.
@Thrussted Me too! Let's play something else in the meantime.
Ouch!
I thought they'd be getting The Witcher 3 out by December to cash-in on season 2 of the Netflix show.
@Thrussted You aren't the only one. I played the intro, heard its getting a Series X upgrade, and decided I have enough in my library to hold me over til than. I haven't even bothered buying Cyberpunk, waiting on the digital version to get a deep discount.
Man this stinks I really want to play the Witcher 3 again cyberpunk is pretty good on the series x
Witcher 3 been there done that good ole upgrade remasters again.
Waste of resource and time upgrading the Witcher 3.
Cyberpunk on the right settings seems ok with me on the series x.
I'll be looking out for an xbox copy of cyberpunk on black Friday. Expecting some deep cuts for them to shift existing stock ahead of next gen copies

@Thrussted I played the base story because I couldn’t stop. But am not touching the huge DLCs until the update.
I'm all good with that. It would have been cool to get The Witcher 3's new gen by the time the second season dropped on Netflix, but all in all I have plenty to play, so just get them right and everything will be all good.
@BlueOcean @Thrussted Same. I bought it earlier this year on sale (might have been $8) just waiting on that series upgrade.
I'm actually replaying Witcher 3 right now, don't know why but after finally finishing Cyberpunk I guess I just wanted something to remind me of the days when we all loved CDPR. But.... I'm playing it on PC. My son had a install with a whole bunch of Graphics Mods that make it a great looking game. I wonder how the next gen console version will hold up against a fully pimped out PC build. Any how, Time to decide between a trip to the lighthouse or a ride on the Unicorn.....
This doesn't bother me as long as they get it right. I finished the main story in Cyberpunk 2077 on my Series S shortly after it came out but I will definitely be starting a new character once the current gen upgrade is released. Haven't played The Witcher in ages so I'm looking forward to that as well.
@NEStalgia
Have to disagree with you there. I played CP2077 on both XSX and PS5 and it's first and foremost a great game in terms of plot/writing. Furthermore, it works and looks better on XSX (graphics mode, much better audio due to Dolby Atmos). I don't care about the next gen upgrade as I'm happy with the current state of this game.
