This is such a tough one for me. The story of the original is incredible, but the gameplay of Infinite blows it away, and the Burial at Sea DLC is the best piece of DLC I’ve ever played. I voted for the original for the story, atmosphere and Rapture, but I was quite torn.
@BrilliantBill if there’s one thing I’ve always given him credit for and admired him for it was his ability to innovate. I’m 37 and have been gaming most of my life, to this day, I still can’t think of a boss battle that blew my mind more than Psychomantis. I struggle to think of a moment outside of X-Men on SEGA Genesis that had a moment where you had to rush to hit and hold the reset button or you got game over, that had such a unique in game mechanic. I’ve just usually struggled with his stories and his balancing of weird and real world. It’s his style, so I respect that, I’m certainly not one to tell Kojima to do something different, I just don’t always feel that the weird characters and story moments he throws into his games always work, at least not for me. Don’t get me wrong, I do respect him and usually like his games, I’m just nit head over heels like most people seem to be. I’m more of a, “wait for reviews” kind of guy with him, rather than, “it’s Kojima, I’m getting it.”
I’ve never been the biggest Kojima fan, I like his games, but I never understood the obsession over him. With that said, after a long time of making fun of Death Stranding, I decided to give it a try and I loved it, it was truly a unique game. I’m more interested in his work now than I have been in the past, though I’m still not clamoring for his next game.
@Stoned_Patrol personally, I don’t get what all the hype is about with it. I never played the original so I bought it on Switch when it came out, I thought it was ok, but didn’t live up to everything I’ve seen about it. With that said, you certainly can’t go wrong with the price, even if you’re like me and don’t care for it at least you didn’t spend much on it.
I have a Series X and S and I love them both. S is insanely powerful for what it is, sure it’s not as powerful as the X or PS5, but I don’t regret buying it at all.
@NEStalgia interesting, you and I have completely opposite opinions on it. I felt the beginning was boring and very generic, but as powers unlocked and you started getting different abilities on your weapons it really opened up gameplay. I almost didn’t play it because the demo felt so generic, but I was really glad I did, I’ve had a great time soloing it.
I just finished the first one last week and I was blown away. That game is a dark, haunting, beautiful masterpiece, with some of the best mocap and voice acting I’ve played since Hellblade. I can’t wait for the second game.
The first one on Genesis was amazing. I remember renting it and not being able to get out of the first area at all, so I thought the game was terrible and hated it. I eventually revisited it when I was a bit older and figured out the puzzles behind it, which gave way to an incredible game.
Any credibility towards that being true is thrown out the window when I see “Kotaku.” I’d rate it between an A and a B, but even if it were just a C I’d argue there isn’t burnout yet. I’ve discovered so many new games I’d have never tried thanks to GP.
Now that I beat Elden Ring, I decided to go for a throw back, I’m currently playing Lost Odyssey. Although it feels like a product of its era, I’m really enjoying it so far.
I made it to the final fight of Elden Ring on Friday, went to go try it out, little did I know I wouldn’t be able to. It just kept telling me the person who purchased the game needed to sign in (SPOILER ALERT: That was me and I was signed in).I couldn’t access a single digital game on my Xbox. It was quite frustrating.
My daughter has this controller, I kind of want to mod it to do this now ha. Fun fact, if you type in the Konami code on the controller there’s an Easter egg.
@Fiendish-Beaver I’m not much of a rogue-like/lite fan, but Rogue Legacy is a really great game. If the second is anything like it then it’s worth checking out. I doubt you need to worry about playing the original first, there’s barely a story to it.
While I can’t wait to see Kotick out of there, I hate that he will be doing it with a Scrooge McDuck smile as swims in a pool of money from this deal. He’ll be laughing his way to the bank. With that said, I’m excited to see what Activision looks like under Spencer.
@demian I definitely like that take on it, looking at it from that perspective it changes my opinion on it.
Outside of a few choices they made I more or less enjoyed it. Sure, it had some jank to it, but overall it was fun. I’m reserving the fact that I hated there was a human on the Covenant until I see how it pans out, I’m all for creative liberties if it makes sense and pans out in a cool way, so I’m hoping that’s the case here.
@demian I apparently missed that, I was only able to half pay attention to it while I watched it. I don’t disagree that it isn’t worse than any other overrated show lately. I didn’t love it but I certainly didn’t hate it, I’ll keep watching to see where it goes.
@BartoxTharglod you perfectly summed up my feelings on it. There were some parts I enjoyed, some parts I didn’t and some I just felt were complete cringe worthy. I wouldn’t say the show was bad, I liked it enough to stick with it, some of the special effects, sound effects and swapping perspective just didn’t do it for me. I also really didn’t like how the mounted turret did nothing against the Elites when the general was using it, but as soon as Chief picked it up it shredded them in seconds. There were some very strange choices made that’s for sure.
@Qphlat27 I’ve only played a bit of Manhunt but I did enjoy what I played, but Prey and Spec Ops the Line are absolute steals at those prices and I can recommend either enough.
@Vepra thank you for being a rational person. My coworker was going on and on about all the things they “got wrong.” Personally, I don’t need or want a 1:1 recreation, as long as a lot of the main concepts are there and it’s good I’m happy. We have the game and it’s story, we don’t need this show to be that but in video format, if they were just going to follow it in the same way I’d rather just play the game.
I can’t wait to play this with my five year old! Though, I’m not looking forward to the dam level… I still have PTSD in water levels thanks to that level.
I love Platinum Games, but this looks like a free to play and not even a good one. I’d much rather play Warframe or Genshin Impact than pay $60 for this.
@RevGaming I definitely know people who just try to rush to bosses and find that’s a big mistake. I am in no way good enough to just streamline it and not level up first. I’ll never be that guy beating it with a Guitar Hero guitar, blind folded and not leveling up once, while managing a perfect run. 🤣
@RevGaming I was about to say that’s different because I can leave the area and come back later, but clearly that’s your point in all of this. So I’ll say for typical Soulsborne games that wasn’t really an option because you can’t progress without defeating the enemy, but in Elden Ring I 100% conceded to this point, there’s always something to do so it does work with the allotted game time I have better than typical games in the genre.
@RevGaming I hear what you’re saying, and I don’t necessarily disagree, but that also kind of goes along with my point that it can be tougher to make progress if someone has to stop trying against a boss to grind.
@Medic_Alert I can completely see your point on that. I’ve never been a person that shoots for 100% of a game. I’ll do most side quests and check out points of interest, but if I get a quest that doesn’t interest me I won’t bother. Now, with that said, it is far more satisfying to finally get through a boss or point you’ve been stuck on for a while in a Soulsborne game than just about anything Horizon has to throw at me, so from that perspective I can completely agree with your point.
@RevGaming it all depends on the area, the enemy, the boss, so on and so forth. If I’m dying repeatedly on one boss and having to force my way back to it every time, then it’s a little more time consuming than doing a side quest or two in a game like Horizon. Don’t get me wrong, I adore the Soulsborne genre but for me personally, I don’t feel progress is as easy or as forgiving of your time as some of the things in other games.
@RevGaming I love Soulsborne games but I can see where Tasuki is coming from on this. Those games may be just as long but the ability to pause when you want makes a big difference. Not to mention having to spend a ton of time to learn a new enemy type or boss makes it more demanding of a game. It’s less about the length of the game and more about how it demands your time. I do want to get this eventually but for now I’m sticking with Horizon, which I think perfectly demonstrates how it utilizes a player’s time versus a Soulsborne style game.
It’s horrible that it’s come to this, but seeing the people and companies that have been rallying in support of Ukraine has been a beautiful thing. I’m so blessed to be where I am and have the life I have. I was reading news articles this morning at work and I came across this quote, “His 6-year-old son was sleeping when he kissed him goodbye this morning. ‘We are all going. We have to fight. It’s our country. So I am not afraid. I have to do this,’ Ivaniv said.” when I got home all I could do is grab my kids and hold them. I couldn’t imagine being in a position where I have to leave them like that.
