Xbox Game Studios looks set for a much busier year in 2023. We've already been treated to the surprise drop of Hi-Fi RUSH from Tango Gameworks, and we've got the likes of Redfall, Forza Motorsport and Starfield on the way.
But what about Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2?
It's now been just over three years since Microsoft revealed the Xbox Series X along with Ninja Theory's Hellblade 2 back at The Game Awards in 2019, and yet we still haven't been able to get our hands on the highly-anticipated sequel.
It's also been over a year since we saw a stunning gameplay reveal, which appeared to show that Hellblade 2 was in a great state already - and it's been about 14 months since that footage was revealed!
Based on all of that, then, we're keeping our fingers crossed that Xbox might give us a late 2023 date for Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase event this summer. Do you think that might be the case as well, or will it be pushed into 2024 or even later? Let us know down in the poll and comments below.
What do you think is going to happen with Hellblade 2? Tell us!

Not confident at all that it's this year. Too be honest I'm not confident it's next year either 😅
Not gonna get to excited about this game
Hardly seen anything of it.
The last footage we saw, wasn’t that great and everyone got soooooo carried away with it.
Also not sure the size of the studio and if they trying to produce an epic big AAA or something on a smaller scale.
Im hopeful it gets released this winter. If Starfield releases in June expect Hellblade or something else besides Forza to launch in the fall/winter. If no Starfield in the summer then I wouldn't get my hopes up.
I sure hope so. It's been my most anticipated Xbox game for years.
For me, personally, the Ninja Theory Acquisition is more interesting to me than Activision/Blizzard. I'm just not into Activision/Blizzard games but I've loved many Ninja Theory releases.
Think we might see it at whatever summer event Microsoft take part in but I don't think it will release. More than happy to be wrong through.
I do. I think late 23 if it’s gonna be this year. Not gonna lie though I don’t hold the first game in high regard like many seem to. It was annoying.
I think it will be a holiday 2023 game..
2023 is impossible... Actually we will be lucky to get it at 2024
I would say 2024 will be getting stalker2 after being delayed... I feel like all MS studios are still not in good pace... They are slow.. Lot of development problems and reboots, all projects seem far away and prone to delays (everwild, indiana johns, avowed, outer world 2, project dark, contra band....)
I’m going to guess 2024. I don’t have a reason why, just a feeling.
Leaning towards 2024. I think Microsoft will cap off 2023 with Forza Motorsport (September), Gears collection (October) and Starfield (November).
I've got it on good authority it will release on November the 12th this year....
@Grumblevolcano “Gears collection” doesn’t exist, that rumor has been taken down repeatedly.
Guessing E3 will have gameplay and a 2024 release window like spring or something but not an actual date
Hopefully it’s this year. Xbox needs at least one more big exclusive this year and hellblade 2 would fit a big hole in their portfolio. Also doesn’t make sense for one of the big rpgs to release this yest so close to starfield. If they don’t have another big exclusive this year then it would be incredibly disappointing for Xbox.
@IOI With Microsoft only deconfirming 360 marketplace shutdown for May (not deconfirming the "over the next year" part), it looks like sometime over the next year the 360 versions of the Gears games will be gone unless you already own them which I don't really see happening without remasters for the newer systems. The Halo 360 games were shutdown after they arrived on PC via MCC.
Lord Ruler, I hope so, but I doubt it’ll be this year.
Second half of the year will be Forza and Starfield so I doubt they would release Hellblade II as well.
Couldn't care less about Hellblade 2. The first game is one of the worst games I've ever played. It was so boring, I can't think of a more boring game. The combat was not satisfying at all, the puzzles were so lame. It was genuinely terrible. Unless they go a completely different direction and make it more of a hack and slash game with more focus on combat rather then a boring walking Simulator.
I haven't played Hellblade but I will since it's on Game Pass. The sequel won't be released until 2024, I think. This year we'll play Forza Motorsport, Starfield and some surprises.
Wait, when will we play a new Banjo-Kazooie game? 😁
@BrilliantBill Is Senua in your profile picture?

What? The Gears of War games won't be gone, they're on the new store. You came to a conclusion based on a hypothesis based on something that you think that will happen in the second half of the year based on something that won't happen in the first half of the year 🤣.
No chance in 2023, we would have heard some more information by now otherwise. 2024 seems likely to me.
@BrilliantBill Good. It seems that the sequel will be better with a bigger budget under Microsoft's umbrella.
In all honesty, this is probably a game that didn’t really need a sequel, the first was such a standout title and deserved every plaudit it received, it might have been best left at that! However, I am still very much excited about the release and I would say that it will be a safe release around the first quarter of 2024!
No. I honestly think after such a quiet 2022 the only game coming out of MS studios this year is Forza - a game that’s had countless delays and likely to get another one pushing it to the back half of the year, and basically confirming no hellblade 2.
Hellblade and avowed next year.
We've seen so little its hard to imagine anything coming soon.
I felt the first title was very over rated and the combination of decent fighting mechanics slowed down by drawn out puzzle sections ensured the game never got any momentum. It looked good, and as one of the first major titles to 'deal with' MH issues it attracted attention, but as a game it was forgettable to me apart from the sonic design, which was really good.
Not only do I not expect to see it for while, but im not covinced it will be that good when we do. Hopefully my skepticism will prove unfounded!
@Grumblevolcano Them shutting down the 360 marketplace doesn’t mean that the games will become unavailable as every Gears game (and most other games) are already available at the Microsoft Store (for Xbox One and Series), and given that they were enhanced for Xbox One X at 4K and with FPS Boost enabled there’s not a strong case for dedicating resources to a remaster, I’d rather get the next game earlier.
@Banjo- tip: if you play Hellblade headphones are essential. More so than almost any other game.
This and fable are my most anticipated xbox games.
Sadly they’re the games that we have seen the least.
Use to just be an Xbox gamer but most of the big games that are coming all seem to be fps games apart from forza.
Hellblade 2 in 2023? Hell no! Not even sure we see it in 2024.
@themightyant Yes! It is very cool, indeed. So @Banjo-, if you want to try it, this is the way to go.
About Hellbalde 2, I would love to see it in 2023...but I don't have any hope for this year. Probably, we will only get some release window, not an exact date.
Of course, a shadow drop would be lovely (but highly unlikely)!
@themightyant @HarmanSmith I bought A40 TR HEADSET + MIXAMP M80 for Xbox for playing Fortnite 😂 but I'm not sure that the voices in Hellblade so close to my ears won't make me crazy. I'll try when I finally play it.
@Banjo- Feeling the weight of all those voices is an integral part of the Hellblade experience, it's part of what makes it so good. Honestly I could only play it in shorter bursts (up to 1-2 hours max.) rather than playing all evening as I can with other games, as it was just too much, but I wouldn't change it, that's kinda the point. And thankfully we can take a break.
@HarmanSmith also don't see HB2 coming out in 2023, sadly, just hope they get it right. Loved HB1. It sticks with you
@HarmanSmith @themightyant When I play it I'll share my experience and for once I'll do what themightyant says and play with headphones 😝.
