Welcome to the weekend! If you're looking for something new to try on Xbox over the next few days, don't forget that we've got lots of new Xbox Game Pass additions, another Free Play Days title, and the usual set of great deals. Plus, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members can play 10 hours of FIFA 23 for free right now!
Here's what we're playing this weekend:
Fraser Gilbert, Editor
I've been away from work and gaming in general for the past week and a half due to COVID, so I'm not quite sure if I'm going to be playing anything at all to be honest! I've still yet to properly check out the FIFA 23 trial on EA Play though, so that might be worth a try, and I'm looking forward to the NHL 23 trial in a few weeks as well.
Another game I've been tempted to revisit lately is LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. I definitely enjoy it, but I haven't felt compelled to fully complete it beyond the standard levels - maybe I'll start working on the collectible stuff.
Have a good weekend, folks!

On PS5 i will be continuing with Atelier Sophie 2 and The Diofield
On switch its more Pikmin 3 deluxe, I think I will give splatoon 3 a rest as I'm starting to feel burnt out on that.
And on my series s I will try and finish far cry 5 today and then start Deathloop
It's finally October so I'm playing some horror games this weekend. I just started up the first FEAR on Series X and it feels great to play on this system compared to when I gave it a try on my 360. Quick resume makes jumping into the game faster, the Series X controller feels better to use than the 360 one and the game also has an FPS boost on Series X. Load times are also noticeably quicker. It just feels great playing this game on newer hardware, I'm looking forward to playing more of it.
I might also start up another horror game besides FEAR. I'm thinking about either Resident Evil 5 or DOOM 3 on PS4. Besides horror games though, I'll also be continuing my playthrough of Persona 3 Portable. I'm over 50 hours into the game now so I feel like I'm nearing the end soon. Hopefully I can finish the game within the next couple of weeks so that I can focus on other titles.
I'm playing Thief (2014) and loving it! Paid $2 for it too.
A bit of Forza Horizon 4 is on the menu as well and having watched the fantastic Cyberpunk Edgerunners I've started my 4th playthrough of CP2077. This time as a streetkid and a female V, so I have a shot at hooking up with Judy š
Have a good one guys and gals!
@LtSarge
I finished FEAR2 a week ago! Agree it's awesome still and I love being able to play those classics on XSX. I was actually thinking about getting FEAR1. Too bad it's not available digitally š don't feel like buying discs anymore... I know, first world problems.
I picked up LEGO Builders Journey last night. Itās 50% at the moment. What a gem!
Hi there fellow gamers.
Still enjoying my new Xbox Series X very much, even though IĀ“m playing old games in it. And FH5. The gameĀ“s beautiful and fun.
Having already finished replaying the first three Gears of War games, those games are as good as I remember, IĀ“ve decided to take the plunge and dive into the Halo games for the first time with the Halo Master Chief Collection.
IĀ“m at the end of Halo CE and will probably be playing Halo 2 throughout the weekend.
So far, the best thing I can say is that the combat feels great.
The game also has some difficulty spikes, or maybe IĀ“m just not that good at playing Halo yet. But IĀ“m in for the long haul.
Will also be playing more Horizon Forbidden West on my PS5 and Triangle Strategy on my Switch. Great time to be a gamer.
Cheers, stay safe everyone and happy gaming weekend to us all
@gollumb82 Oh nice! I'm actually the opposite, I love buying physical retro games, especially 360/PS3/Wii titles as I grew up with those consoles. I bought all three FEAR games on 360 years ago and I'm glad I can play all of them on Series X. Didn't buy FEAR Files though (standalone expansion to FEAR 1) and now it's too expensive sadly.
It's crazy though how much more enjoyable FEAR 1 is on Series X compared to 360. I'm actually having a blast with this game now!
Still playing the amazing Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I'm trying to 100% it before jumping into Valhalla. I'm loving every second of it.
There were a few side-quests that made me almost tear up, being it because of the FEELS or just laughter.
I completed Steelrising earlier this week on the Xbox Series X, and it was an excellent game despite a few achievement glitches. However, this weekend Iām playing NiOh Remastered (PS5). I absolutely adore this game. The customization regarding weapons and armor is deep, along with the variety of stances that provide a ton of unique combat capabilities.
There arenāt many (good) games out there that let you look and play like a ninja/Shinobi, and thatās a genre of game that I wish we could get more of (and I believe we are), at least in the feudal Japan setting. Iāll probably try and go for the Platinum trophy; thatāll bide my time until Scorn releases.
Iāll also probably jump back into Horizon Forbidden West (my strong contender for GOTY) and mop up the three remaining trophies I need to obtain the Platinum. I beat the game when it first released earlier this year, and was awestruck the entire time.
That said, the idea of playing Machine Strike was so unappealing to me - I simply didnāt want to mess with it to get the P-trophy. I genuinely dislike games within a game (Gwent, etc.) but I followed a guide real quick yesterday, got the trophy, and that is finally giving me the boost I need to complete the rest of the trophy list.
Unfortunately, Iāve forgotten the controls and mechanics of the game so itāll probably take me a bit to reacquaint myself in order to feel comfortable playing again.
@LtSarge
Not saying you're wrong, but damn I felt old at PS3/360 games being called retro, hahaha. But yeah, can't say they're not.
Im playing a bit of Deathloop... im not sure what to think of it yet. The objetives are confusing. Sometimes im having a blast and sometimes i dont know wth is going on.
Also fifa23 trial..in trying the led lasso portion of the game
@LtSarge
I'll probably end up buying it anyway (along with PES 2021, Forza 6). I played Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate (FEAR Files) on PC back in the day. Liked them well enough, but probably not enough to pay the price people expect to get for used copies.
@Lup Haha yeah well, not everyone agrees that they should be called retro since the games still feel like modern games. Which is understandable considering PS3/360 got titles like Red Dead Redemption, GTA V, The Last of Us, games that still hold up well today.
However, considering we called N64 retro back in 2006 (i.e. ten years after it came out), I think it's fair to call PS3/360/Wii retro in 2022 (i.e. more than 15 years after they came out).
@gollumb82 The Forza games are one reason why I'm glad we can still buy physical games since basically all of them are delisted now. I own all Forza Motorsport and Horizon games physically, even Motorsport 1 on OG Xbox, but not Horizon 5 though since I played through it on Game Pass.
I think I'm going to be buying fewer games physically in the future due to Game Pass. I tend to never replay games because I have such a massive backlog that I'd rather play something new instead of something I've already played. So there's no point in buying everything physically henceforth for me. Not to mention that it's cheaper playing through the games on Game Pass. A Plague Tale: Requiem is a good example of that. I save ā¬40 and storage space by playing it on Game Pass when it comes out.
On my Xbox it's the beautiful Ni No Kuni. Started it the day it came to gamepass. It's a pretty decent jrpg, but the art style is absolutely stellar, you cna see it's partially made by Studio Ghibl. So great to see these kind of games coming to gamepass.
On my ps5 its Atelier Ryza, which is my first Atelier game. Very relaxing game mostly. Never played an Atelier game before but since reading good things about this one I decided to try it. Because the other 2 games are chill I also started Saints Row 4, for some over the top mindless action.
@gollumb82
Cyberpunk and what a game on the series x combined with me new LG C2 definitely graphically etc a match made in heaven.
Seems a great game so far after all the updates and smooth as hell in performance mode.
Just started playing Deathloop and Far Cry 6
Finished the campaign in Splatoon 3 last night. It was okay, but poorly structured overall imo, and the frequent use of insta-kills was pretty annoying. Also, is it just me or is the music in this game a lot more obnoxious than it was in the first two?
Started up Immortality last night. I'm very confused, but also intrigued.
been fifa 23 as always on week one of release. career mode not the evil fut loolt boxes as dont agree with them
@Dezzy70
Amen brother š One of my all time favourite games at this point. Enjoy!
Assassinās creed origins for me , almost finished so maybe I will start another game Sunday but nothing too long , too many great games coming out in October.
Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA) - Playing the spooky levels for Halloween.
Age of Empires: Castle Siege (Android) - Haven't played for nearly a week, time to get back to it.
Temple Run 2 (Windows Phone) - Still getting a little further each time. It sucks not being able to buy any of the powerups though...
Iāve got right back into Cyberpunk 2077 this week, and I havenāt even watched the Edgerunners anime! But it was the 1.6 āEdgerunnersā update that made me dive back in to see how things have improved. I also used a glitch I saw on youtube which got me 2 million eddies! Bought some nice guns, upgraded my cyberware, and bought a few apartments. Mostly doing side jobs and gigs, but do plan on carrying on where I left off on the story, which was some time ago!
I just beat Gears 5 and the Hivebuster DLC. After watching Rings of Power, Iām thinking about jumping back into Shadow of War.
Still playing cyberpunk should finish the story tonight then back to trying to get into deathloop though I'm really not sure about it.
@UltimateOtaku91 howās the story in Diofield?
I'm currently playing Mario + Rabbids.
@everynowandben I havenāt noticed the music too much, Splatoon 3 is my podcast game.
I think I might be 4 stages (?) into the campaign. I usually play a bit of the campaign and then get sucked into either Salmon Run or MP. Salmon Run is awesome, still need to take down a King Salmonid
tried grounded, but the game isn't for me.
@Odium how was the Hivebuster Dlc? Worth me downloading the game again for?
Probably some Splatoon 3 and Rogue Legacy 2
@Dusk_Actual Tbh it's very generic and they have tried too hard to make it similar to fire emblem story wise, doesn't help that the characters show no emotion either and the cutscenes feel flat, The basic story is two nations going to war and then both nations attacking another nation for its resources and you're a band of mercenaries helping that country. But I'm enjoying the strategy side to it and its definitely more difficult than fire emblem but also more grindy.
Forza Horizon (Series X) After the article about FH4 it made me want to go back to the series.
Super Mario Maker 2 (Switch) After hearing about Super Mario 5, I decided to get this for that reason. Will be checking it out this weekend.
The xbox is getting the love this week! Im always playing forza horizon 4 these days, and specifically the treasure island dlc which has some trully magical races.
Grounded looks fun, so Ive started to look at that and ive downloaded the new zoo game on games pass too.
As if that wasnt enough, the latest cybrrpunk patch inspired me to start up a new game on my pc...
GTA San Andreas Remastered
Deathloop. Enjoying it but starting to feel the repetition
Iāve been enjoying the new saints row I just finished the train heist. I think this is the best saints row I like it better than SR3 and SR4 definitely I didnāt enjoy the story for saints row 3, but this story is awesome I love all the characters Eli is my favorite
@Dusk_Actual it was fun, it was a decent story and good gameplay. I didnāt really care much for the characters and there were a few too many moments where it was the juvies or the Swarm leeches, but itās fairly short playthrough. I donāt think itās necessary to play, but itās worth playing if you are looking to kill a few hours.
Also, I might be wrong on this, but it might allow you to install the DLC only like it let you do the campaign and/or multiplayer. Iām not positive though.
I've started playing deathloop and some of the achievements aren't unlocking anyone else had this?.
I am too late for this section again! Anyway...
I played some more Immortals: Fenyx Rising (started a NG+). I wanted to play Ni No Kuni, but it is a JRPG. So I didn't want to commit to another one (since I am waiting for P5R later this month). So, that's that in the meantime.
BTW, I hope you feel well soon, @FraserG!
@HarmanSmith Thank you! I'm getting there
Disco Elysium on the Switch is getting most of my time this weekend. Been away from the X-box so handheld gaming has been handy.
Oh, and the game is brilliant.
