Xbox has changed its approach to game exclusives this year, as the team brings more and more titles to PS5 and Nintendo Switch - and it's starting to sound like the strategy has now completely shifted at Microsoft. We've seen the brand's new ad campaign that calls most things an 'Xbox', and now Windows Central's Jez Corden is saying that exclusives are pretty much over for Microsoft.
Tweeting out late last week, Corden straight up said that "Xbox won't have exclusives going forward". The Xbox reporter believes that "everything is timed exclusive at most" these days, as Xbox plans when and where to release its first-party titles.
When asked to elaborate on whether this was just speculation or something more, Corden didn't really give us an answer - but the journalist did further explain how Microsoft is seemingly handling things these days. In short, Xbox's "case-by-case" messaging is leading to more and more multiplatform games - especially if they continue to be successful.
This probably shouldn't be hugely surprising; just last month Xbox boss Phil Spencer said that any Microsoft franchise is now on the table for bringing to PS5, and potentially other platforms. We'll have to see how things play out from here — given that these tweets don't appear to be based on any specific information — but it's interesting nonetheless, and we do seem to be seeing all of this play out in front of us.
