It's definitely crept up on us, but The Game Awards 2024 is just over a week away now! The final major gaming event of the year promises to deliver plenty of fun surprises and big updates, but will Xbox have anything major to share?
The biggest Game Awards moment in Xbox history undoubtedly happened back at the 2019 version of the event - when Phil Spencer stepped out onto the stage to reveal the Xbox Series X for the first time. There have been other huge reveals too, such as the Perfect Dark reboot, as well as Marvel's Blade being announced at least year's show.
So, what could we see this year? It feels like we already know about most of Xbox's 2025 lineup, but a first-party project that's a bit further out (such as the aformentioned Marvel's Blade) could surely end up getting a spot in the show. It's unlikely we'll see a new console again, but perhaps some kind of new hardware could be shown off too? Please?!
The big prediction we're making, however, is that Black Myth: Wukong will finally get a proper Xbox release date. It's been rated for Xbox recently, and it's up for grabs in the Game of the Year award category, so it makes sense for an Xbox version to be announced. It'd basically mirror what happened with Baldur's Gate 3 last year.
But what about you? What are you expecting from Xbox at The Game Awards 2024? Let us know down below.

On his podcast, Jez seemed to indicate that he had a decent idea of what was being announced and said not to expect a big presence from xbox.
Maybe another January developer direct to dive into Fable, doom, south of midnight, or whatever they have for next year?
Sarah Bond said we'd see a glimpse into the next generation of Xbox hardware before the end of the year, so this could possibly be the event where it happens. Honestly, well probably just see more trailers for the bigger games that are coming out over the next few months.
It will be an annoying and nauseating event but I watch it anyway … but it is cringeworthy… the June showcase is the main event and this is just corporate shenanigans with a few trailers
A butt load of Activision games dropping on gamepass as usual
Not really fond of what the Game Awards has morphed into so I wo t be watching.
It would be nice to get an big meaningful Xbox announcement that isn't "hey we're finally getting that big game" again.
Unrelated note: had a real hard time actually getting into this article via the mobile site as it kept loading the playstation advert instead.
I'll be watching starting with about an hour delay. That way I can skip through all the stuff that holds no interest for me (ads, musical interludes, interviews etc.). All I am interested in are the trailers, and I will watch the occasional interview if they are talking about a game that interest me.
What I really hope though is that Microsoft have realised that announcing a game going to the PlayStation, as if it is a bigger deal than it coming to the Xbox, is something that they should avoid because when they did with Indiana Jones it infuriated many of the loyal Xbox gamers (myself included)...
Considering this is the first big event since the "no red lines" comment and "This is an Xbox" campaign, I think Xbox's big presence here will be PS5 ports and "This is an Xbox" ads.
Then they do a Developer Direct in January to cover Avowed, DOOM The Dark Ages, Fable, South of Midnight and 1-2 other games.
What am I expecting?
Not a lot, truth be told. I think the NeXtBoX will be releasing in the Fall of 2026, so the most likely reveal for that will be at the Summer Showcase next year. I also think that the handheld will be releasing at the same time as the NeXtBoX and will effectively be replacing the Series S, so again, I don't expect to see that until next year.
I'm not expecting to see the likes of Blade, Gears of War: E-Day, Perfect Dark or State of Decay 3 as I believe they are all launch titles (or soon after) for the NeXtBoX, so the trailers for them will also be at the Summer Showcase.
What I do expect to see is Avowed, and maybe even a bit of Indiana Jones (mostly for the PlayStation audience as it will already be out on the Xbox)...
@Fiendish-Beaver
If Microsoft are producing a game and know when announcing a game what devices it is going to definitely release on then they should say there and then like other publishers do.
Then gamers game can decide what device to buy the game on, especially if there is a few months gap say between an Xbox console release and a Switch 2 or PS5 or PS5 Pro release, so a gamer can decide to wait for the game to come on a particular device if they wish to.
There is no point having all this secret stuff now, just tell gamers what devices and when. So the gamer can decide.
Fable gameplay would be nice
Nothing. After knowing the nominees I'm not interested at all.
I want Phil to rock up on stage, lay some cable, point at it and shout, "That's an Xbox!"
@Ricky-Spanish your continued optimism is inspirational.
@bowzoid 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Game Awards are a joke to the point more people care about the ads. And you don't need to watch it live if you only care about announcements, especially since companies like Microsoft, Nintendo, & Sony would much rather announce anything remotely major during their own Events.
As far as what we might see from Xbox, I'm thinking some Activision Game Pass drops at once, and maybe the PS5 port of Forza Horizon 5 they said existed along with some other ports. Definitely feel like Killer Instinct 2013 is in the works since they had that massive update this year that focused on making crossplay better.
@Ricky-Spanish My hope is whatever the 2 Transformers projects are since we haven't heard or seen anything pointing at other licensed games.
Removed - trolling/baiting
Not expecting much. Xbox usually does a Jan/Feb event the last few years.
For Xbox? They could announce the next console but with what is going on with supply, China banning some imports, potential tarrifs for US incoming... I don't think we will have anything shown at all. Only thing that would make sense is maybe more on Gears E-Day or Doom The Dark Ages with potential release dates.
God I remember back in 2009 I was playing Dark Sector with my friends and we'd pause after commercials to watch the Spike game awards while talking about it over party chat., then start another match. Even back then we hated it lol.
Probably Indy and/or Xbox announcing more ports to PS5.
-Phil will give a short vague speech about how great this year was and thank the fans everywhere for blah blah blah
-an announcement of a game finally coming to Xbox (the game has been available on ps5 and/or Switch for a long time). There is mild excitement, but not as much as if the game had released 1 or 2 years ago.
Sarah Bond! She comes out and gives the stats on how many players blah blah blah.
short sizzle reel
Scene.
Likely some 3rd party announcements? Wu Kong maybe? They save most of the good stuff for their show, Geoffrey is a biatch and they know it buy they need a presence of some sort because so many people tune in. They should totally plug their showcase there...I would love to see that on a YouTube highlight cuz sure ain't watching the show lol.
Telling us more games are going to playstation
I always enjoy this event. I applaud Keighley for filling in the gaps of announcements throughout the year.
Why would I expect to see anything from Xbox on the world's longest butt-kissing Sony PlayStation infomercial? Surely, you're joking, right?
They've literally created a category where you can "win" Most Anticipated Hideo Kojima Game so that Hideo and that ass-clown host that I shall not name can snuggle on-stage, any semblance of objectivity about game quality be damned.
The whole thing is a bad joke. I simply can't wait to see Nintendo "win" Best Family Game as a consolation priz....NOPE! That'll go to (the admittedly great) Astro Bot!
A FULL PLAYSTATION SWEEP and they had only one original new game.
@BacklogBrad when Jez said this, in what podcast, link?
@Markatron84 My dude👏💪
I doubt they will really show anything except possible trailers for games already announced and a bit of talk on future prospects. They will leave the good stuff for their showcase.
I will try again.
More censorship because opinions
More DEI simply because
More excuses lol
I absolutely agree, @OldGamer999, and I'm going to guess that you didn't read my comment properly...! 😉
I've put in bold the salient point that I was making:
What I really hope though is that Microsoft have realised that announcing a game going to the PlayStation, as if it is a bigger deal than it coming to the Xbox, is something that they should avoid because when they did with Indiana Jones it infuriated many of the loyal Xbox gamers (myself included).
I believe any game that they know will be heading over to PlayStation within 18 months, should be revealed as doing so either when the Xbox release date is announced, or within a couple of days of that announcement. As you say, knowing what is happening allows us to make the right choices for ourselves. It's not quite the same, but the amount of times I have bought a game and then within a month it goes on the Game Pass is ridiculous, and frankly, quite annoying, so the same is true of games going to the PlayStation. Tell us it's going there, and that then allows us a chance to decide on what platform we will be wanting to play it...
@Bisbogismo12 Monday December 2 edition of xbox two.
Surely, @Millionski, Game Pass price increase came true? As did the rumour that Microsoft would introduce tiers to Game Pass. Indeed, the rumour regarding the 4 games that went to the PlayStation came true too.
Some rumours, such as the NeXtBoX releasing in 2026, are obviously too far off to dismiss or verify, and indeed, some of the rumours you mention may still come to pass. Indeed, they may have been delayed due to the backlash that the porting of the first 4 games caused.
As Spencer said (albeit about something else), plans change...
I’m expecting to be mad when metaphor gets snubbed for goty, and I’m expecting a ton of trailers with zero gameplay, and I’m expecting lots of ads for stuff I don’t care about.
Not much.... Could be fine, could be nothing, not fussed either way. If more trailers of same games sure. If nothing of new games or any new trailers/updates. Not fussed.
I may see it but I'll still read the recaps on here, Push Square & Nintendo Life anyway.
I always if I miss a Sony/Xbox/Nintendo event (isn't so much with Game Awards but I may not care in the next few days who knows) go to these sites just encase and go eh it was fine for these games, didn't care for these or nothing of interest at all.
