Well, it's official - the next game in The Witcher series is officially titled The Witcher 4! Unveiled at The Game Awards via a lengthy cinematic, CD Projekt RED is staying true to the franchise with a "single-player open-world RPG" - coming to Xbox at some point in the future.
We didn't get any proper gameplay here — it's far too early for that — but still, up above is a pretty lengthy look at the Polish developer's next big project; now officially called The Witcher 4.
"We're thrilled to reveal the first look at The Witcher IV — our upcoming single-player open-world RPG. It marks the beginning of a new saga with Ciri as a protagonist, embarking on her own journey to become a professional monster slayer."
For now, we don't have a release date for this one - heck, we don't even have a release window, target platforms or anything of that sort. Whenever CDPR is ready, you can expect this to come to Xbox - alongside other major platforms.
Excited for this? Tell us what you thought of it down below.

Let’s just hope they take there time and cook with this one…we don’t need another half baked release like the Cyberpunk fiasco
It's the latest trend for female protagonists!
All the hits are like that! Right?
Huge disappointment.
Not only is the Ciri saga less interesting than the original short stories in Sapkowski's works, now we even get her as the main character. Very annoying, I loved playing as Geralt.
@xxk7xx Agreed.
Geralt's story was nicely tied up in Blood and Wine for me. I'm happy to let him enjoy his retirement. Ciri is a great character as well so I can live with it.
Take your time please. No more cyberpunk launches.
@xxk7xx they don’t exactly follow the books. They were kinda/sorta supposed to happen after the books.
Hell yeah. Just cinematics obv, but that was a hell of a trailer. I love the revamped ciri and new voice actor. I’m 100% here for it. Love geralt, but this is gonna be even more fun.
Looks dope. If anybody wants a game without a bunch of bugs, just don't buy it for a year and let it cook with players providing feedback & encountering bugs. There is just so much that can happen when a game this big gets out to millions and millions of players trying all sorts of fun, crazy stuff. It will have bugs 100% at launch. About time they let Geralt retire, Ciri is more than capable. Lets not get toxic too fast when a change comes & especially if the lead is a woman. The game is going to be great, stop hating on a franchise that has just gone above and beyond for us. Let's see what comes next in the saga.
I am absolutely buzzing for this! I seriously cannot wait.
@YeyoFairy I would hope this time management isn't making them target the tail end of a console generation again.
Sounding like Cyberpunk all over again.....they were just smart enough to not announce it for current gen this time.
mixed expectations, I'm sure (if not at launch, then eventually) it'll be a great game, but without the gruff, funny Geralt as main character, it'll be a tonally different game. I'm probably more excited for Witcher 1 remake, as I want more prime Geralt, haha
SPOILER COMMENT
@xxk7xx my only disappointment is due to the fact that Ciri sacrificed herself in my Witcher 3 ending - the more powerful (and dark re Geralt's) ending in my opinion. This was befitting of the rather bleak world I had spent over 150 hours in which is to this day my favourite game of all time. I'm sure I'll get over it but there is now that disconnect continuation wise for me. It is however up there with Alien Isolation sequel and GTA VI as my most anticipated game.
Eh I don't think I care. Ciri isn't as interesting as Geralt
I'll have to get cracking on the Witcher 3 bought the complete edition a while back only played 5 minutes suppose it another game to start when I get my series x
@Kilamanjaro
Your comment summarizes whats wrong with modern gaming.
Back in the day, getting a game at launch would mean a complete experience. Nowadays buying Day 1 makes you a glorified beta tester.
The game should be fun itself but we should never give corporations the benefit of the doubt. Thats how complacency sets in. Look at Sony with the PS3 launch.
it's 2024, of course the lead character is a female. Let's see. Returnal, Stellar Blade, Hellblade, TLoU Part 2, Control, Horizon, the upcoming Ghost of Yotei and the just-announced new Naughty Dog game and now this game...
However there have always been female leads in games such as in Metroid, Tomb Raider, Bayonetta, Perfect Dark and more.
So I don't know, in a way it does feel like there's a bit of an agenda but is it as egregious as some are making it out to be?
@Netret0120 that's just the reality of delivering games with high fidelity, complex physics engines. 8-32 bit games are far easier to control for. A complex game like The Witcher is obviously going to have bugs. Like just think about it, even if they had 1000 testers, they can't POSSIBLY test what millions of players are going to do. I understand what you're saying & sure, I wish that was the case. But it's just not modern software development. There's nothing "wrong" with it, it just is. I will say, Nintendo launches a ton of games even today with maybe 1-2 small updates but a lot of them are still ready to go on-cart. They also have a simpler development environment & focus very hard on quality.
