Re: Subnautica 2 Dev Issues Statement Following 'GaaS' Controversy

JayJ

@Kaloudz Sorry but you come off as a corporate stooge the more you try to defend live services. It's been proven to be a very predatory business model that has been cooked up by the big business executive types working in the gaming industry as a way to continuously extract money out of people. That and as we have already been seeing with games like The Crew, they can just decide to take the servers offline at any time, and when they do you are left with nothing and the game basically disappears entirely along with anything you put into it. That and it's always been asinine to release a game that is playable as a single player experience and force a mandatory always-online requirement. It's no wonder why people complain, and don't try to act like games can't be profitable without such a predatory scheme either, there's no shortage of successful games that have made a lot of money that have nothing to do with live services. At the end of the day live services is simply greed, pure and simple.

Re: Subnautica 2 Dev Issues Statement Following 'GaaS' Controversy

JayJ

So I guess Below Zero wasn't Subnautica 2? Hate how everyone goes about numbered sequels these days, making one then calling the next game 2 as if they didn't already make a second game.

Anyways, Below Zero, however they want to think of that game (since it isn't a sequel apparently?) wasn't nearly as good as the first game, so I can't say this is a big deal to me. Subnautica is basically a one-off concept for me, they did a great job with the first game, but I don't expect that lightning to land twice.

Re: Forza Motorsport Update 6 Changing 'Car Progression' Next Month

JayJ

Well that is certainly an improvement, I'll give them that. Might actually make me return, as not being able to just build an ideal car I would want to race was my biggest complaint. I am used to paying credits, that's how the old system always worked, I might prefer it to be a little cheaper though.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Still Playing Forza Motorsport On Xbox Game Pass?

JayJ

Nope downloaded it when it launched and tried to get into it, couldn't. Deleted it. Downloaded it again about a month ago, tried to get into it again, and ended up deleting it again. As a longtime fan of Forza games since the original, it's just got so much wrong with it. Biggest issue for me is the car leveling system, it has turned any attempts at car builds into a slow tedious grind and I don't like that. On the few cars I managed to level and do something with I can get a rare glimpse of what I liked about Forza games and enjoy myself, but it has become too time consuming to get there.

Re: Xbox Adds Another Seven New Dynamic Backgrounds For Series X|S

JayJ

Well I guess if you want your Xbox background to be a reflection of your politics... can't help but to feel like this is just the typical corporate virtue signaling of today. I'll be sticking to the original Xbox look, it looks nice and like the comment above says, it reminds me of a time when these gaming platforms weren't about statements.

Re: These Six Xbox Games Have Made January A Month To Remember

JayJ

Only 3 reasons I'm holding off on buying Infinite Wealth: 1 - I have far too many games I am trying to get through right now, 2 - I have far too many Yakuza games I want to get through, and 3 - I have a good feeling it will hit Gamepass eventually like most Yakuza games have.

Re: Poll: How Many Physical Xbox Games Do You Have In Your Collection?

JayJ

I have a ton of OG and 360 Xbox games, hardly bought any for the Xbox One (only bought them early on when the console launched really) and I haven't bought any physical games for Series X.

I am over physical media for the most part, it lost it's purpose when they made you install all the data and started relying upon online updates. Became a physical version of DRM IMO.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Think Xbox Will Release Another Disc-Based Console?

JayJ

@Whybox Sadly the hard drive space argument is why I stopped buying physical games early on last gen. It became clear to me how discs had become little more than an extension to DRM, just a "you must have the disc in the drive" version of the concept. I loved buying physical games back when it meant you could play the game directly off the disc or have a minimalist install. As soon as the disc version required me to install the same amount of data as I would having bought the game digitally, I was over it. It's simply more convenient not having to deal with disc swapping or having to worry about the disc drive breaking, not the mention how it saves a lot of physical space that discs and their cases would take up in my home. The mandatory full installs ruined it for me.

Re: Review: Tekken 8: The King Of Iron Fist Tournament's Xbox Return Is A Cracker Despite A Few Single-Player Shortcomings

JayJ

Never liked the concept of story modes for fighting games, arcade mode is always what it should be IMO, leave the character lore for the cinematic after you win like it used to be. I have also never been a fan of the "rage art" that got introduced in Tekken 7, felt like it made Tekken too similar to Street Fighter, throwing off the feel that it used to have.

That said I'd easily take this over the new Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. I also think this is somewhat of a return to form for Tekken. Tekken 7 felt like it took so many missteps and the single player really got sidelined with what felt like a regression in the overall experience. With Tekken 8 however it seems like they have offered one of the best experiences with the new Arcade Quest mode, and I can see the Super Ghost Battle mode being a lot of fun when they get some downloadable ghosts, pretty much my ideal take when it comes to online gaming with fighting games. Combine that with the new mechanics and revised approach to rage arts and I think this plays much closer to the Tekken I knew and loved.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Think Xbox Will Release Another Disc-Based Console?

JayJ

@CaptainCluck Sony released a digital-only version of the PS5 when they launched it and seem to be onboard with the digital sales and live services direction as well. Then you have Nintendo who seems to be planning on making the Switch 2 digital only. I guess like time will tell but it seems like the days of physical media being a big deal is in the past. The greater majority of the market doesn't seem to care anymore. At best it's just someone trying to score e-points that most people won't care about. Physical has become a real niche market.

Re: Rumour: Major Xbox Series X|S Controller Revision Still To Be Revealed This Year

JayJ

@IGN_Commenter Yeah I've tried it in all sorts of settings, still don't like it. I simply enjoy having all my movements centered around deliberate actions like moving my analog stick with my thumb.

Heck I remember when Xbox released that gyro racing wheel, the one where you just hold it and tilt it around. Seemed interesting, but I hated it in practice. Made me realize how important it is to have resistance and a mounted center point.

Re: Rumour: Major Xbox Series X|S Controller Revision Still To Be Revealed This Year

JayJ

@IGN_Commenter I never liked gyro, never understood why some people desire that, always felt like a really niche feature. I don't want to be having to think about how I'm holding my controller and having it move things around just because I'm moving. I don't think I ever played a game where it felt desirable, but the Wii remote might be an exception.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Think Xbox Will Ever Stop Making Consoles?

JayJ

@nomither6 A good reason for me is that a Series X is only $500 or less and it can play the latest games very well. A nice high-end Gaming PC that can offer improvements over that would be a massive power consuming device that costs a couple grand at least. Pretty big difference there.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Think Xbox Will Ever Stop Making Consoles?

JayJ

I think Xbox consoles are basically the same to Microsoft as their Surface devices. Yeah, they like to sell their own hardware for their own software and services, but no, it's not something that I can see them giving up on really. Microsoft has always been open to having their software and services on as much hardware from as many companies as possible, it's how they built their business. I think Xboxes will always be here as a relatively cheap/affordable way to play the latest games. A home TV alternative to a gaming PC really. They will always be selling them as an entry point to their games and Gamepass as long as home consoles are a thing.

Basically their entire business is centered around maximizing software and service sales, the hardware simply exists to help sell those products.
